I'm pleased the board have acted, they should have done it a few weeks ago but at least this wasn't dragged out any longer. With his entire backroom team going too I don't think it was realistic to bring in an interim manager from outside the club. We've two big games coming up this week, having a temporary manager who doesn't know any of our players would simply create more chaos. Davis, while inexperienced at management level, at least knows the bulk of the squad well and will already have informed opinions on each of them. Davis might well prove to be a wonderful manager but I suspect this job has come to soon for him and that it is indeed a temporary appointment. If he excels in the coming weeks there might be a clamour for him to get the job until the end of the season, but I'll need some convincing that's wise. Davis was a wonderful player, my favourite of the 21st century, there's very little he's not achieved as a player, so he can speak with authority and should command respect in the dressing room. I'm happy to give him my full backing. I'm a little surprised at Rae coming in as his assistant. Do they know each other well? They didn't play together as far as I can tell. Rae's coaching career isn't stellar, it strikes me he's available, knows the club and won't cost too much. He does feel like an interim appointment by the club rather than who Davis asked for. I've no idea who I want as the permanent manager. I've seen various names bandied about, many of who I've never heard of and so can offer no opinion on. That there isn't a stand out candidate means whoever comes in will need to win over at least a section of the support. There's not an obvious Scottish manager, surely our first consideration. McInnes burnt his bridges last time, Martindale has to much baggage, the Aberdeen manager is inexperienced as well as being an ex-Celt and Naismith is also too inexperienced as well as polarising many in our support. Kettlewell is doing OK at Motherwell, but not so well he'd be considered for us. Stephen Robinson is doing well at St. Mirren again this season. He did well at Motherwell too. I can't imagine his is a name that will get many in our support excited, but we'd be remiss not look at his record and knowledge of the league we ultimately need to win. Beyond that I'm just hoping we don't go for someone like Lampard or a big name former English player, hoping lightning will strike twice. There is a big argument to go for experience this time. Rangers job is different from most in football. You're expected to win every match, that's not the case almost anywhere else. Not everyone is able to manage in those circumstances. I saw Brighton got hammered at the weekend, if that happened to Rangers we'd be demanding heads, despite the wonderful things the manager has achieved beforehand.5 points

Well I have woke up this morning feeling excited about the future for us bluenoses. MB rightfully getting the Spanish archer imo, allows the board to hit the refresh button. I think it would be difficult to hire a worse manager than Beale. As someone on here aready said he was only missing a bush to stand in to put him on par with Pedro. Maybe some will think I should not poke fun at MB, but he was sitting in the stand waiting for GVB's demise, a classless act imo, so I have no respect for the man.5 points

That is one option. An alternative would be to find an idle handed zealot to use this thread as a platform to berate all of the 'No' voters. Something like a witchfinder general.5 points

If you spent half as much time talking about Rangers rather than bickering and picking fights this board would be a rich discussion place mate 👍5 points

No idea if Davis and Rae will be able to circle the wagons effectively, or how long they'll be expected to do it, but hearing Davis speak instead of motor mouth already feels reassuring. Good solid characters, wish them the very best.4 points

Good point. Why does he insist on all that snide sniping?4 points

The first thing Bennett needs to do is assemble a selection team of (say) 2 or 3 advisors to help him, with at least one who knows how successful football clubs are run and are prepared to give him some home truths. The likes of Bisgrove should be nowhere near the process. Maybe Souness or the likes but doesn't need to have Rangers connections. Otherwise Bennett is making decisions based on garbage.3 points

I'm not being funny but hasn't he rejected Barca before? If he comes to Scotland it'll be the biggest appointment in decades.3 points

I found it humourous, especially after Beale was skulking about behind Gio’s back last year3 points

They really aren't better than what we've got now. While I'm not against giving Devine some game time (he's better than Sterling IMO), he's still not as good as Tav, even if Tav's not having his best season again. King has 4 better centre backs in front of him. Lowry isn't getting many starts at Hearts and still needs to work on his game before he's ready for regular first team appearances. I haven't seen seen that much of Rice but when he was brought on the other week, he didn't go looking for the ball in the same way as some of the other midfielders. It could be that it was just nerves or was understandably overawed but I didn't see enough of him to say that he's better than, say, Lundstrom or Jack.3 points

It's not a good idea (at Rangers) to play youngsters when the team isn't performing well.3 points
-
I know this is a bit of an old da gripe but I hope the next manager coming in bloods youngster's and plays with a core of Scottish players. We're in a position, contrary to popular belief or at least imo, that we can because of how dominant we are (or should be) game to game. Young players values aren't going to drop by playing them week to week and there is something about having a core group of Scottish (NI as well tbf) players in the dressing room - it's always been the way with Rangers up until Warburton and then Gerrard. We need to get back to that. Not fussed whether the manager has connections or is Scottish mind.3 points

Every name that's mentioned fills me with terror. I suppose that's more an indication of where the club is at rather than the candidates themselves. It needs a giant like a Souness, Gerrard or Smith second time around to pick up the reigns.3 points

It would be nice to think the board had spent the last few weeks talking to prospective managers and only sacked Beale having agreed on a successor, who will be announced shortly. It’s much more likely they simply decided to cut out the cancer and put the club on life support while they look for a permanent cure. I can live with that.3 points

Jesse Marsch? He is like Beale on steroids. Yap Yap Yap Yap...and as full of shit as a Thanksgiving turkey. The rest...Lampard was at Everton...wouldn't know the rest if we were locked in an elevator together. Good...it will all be new to me.3 points

I don't know where this hysterical drama is coming from but it's entirely normal to appoint a caretaker/interim for a period after a manager is sacked. It's just being used as a stick with which to beat the board.... see what I did there?3 points

Steve Davis is a great professional. I trust him to do the job to the best of his abilities.3 points

Davis and Rae strike fear into me - just can't see them doing anything to turn this around. I can see the logic of giving them a couple of games until the international break, but any longer would be a disaster in my opinion.2 points

Given we've had Steve Davis photoshoot and official Rangers media interview with him, am I the only one worried he is going to be manager for more than "a couple of games"?2 points

Beale was appointed because of his time spent at Rangers working for Gerrard. Too many of us thought his influence was much greater than it actually was.2 points

All the very best to the big man. A true blue who will take great pride in being involved for the next short while at least. He has coaching experience and a solid understanding of the club.2 points

How dare you come on here and infect us all with a dose of positivity! Don't you know that the denizens of gersnet are a cynical and pessimistic crowd, influenced by the likes of Schopenhauer? (Alex Rae is a true bluenose.)2 points

A breadth of experience demonstrating a consistent record of success. Meaning, wherever he goes he improves the squad and leaves it better than when he got there. Commensurate to that should be; Experience employing a myriad of tactics and strategies...mentally agile. The ability to assess, analyze and employ available talent within his tactical system...problem solver A leader with the ability to communicate and train a system(s) in a manner that enables quick uptake...teacher. This will promote tactical cohesion leading directly to unit buy in...leadership GVB, and Beale did not have those things. They were yearlings who did not know who they were as managers. GVB was a shit communicator....ummmmm ahhhhhhh ummmmm ahhhhhhhhhh...with the personality of an IT manager...nobody is gonna follow that guy. Beale was a rudderless yapper/carpet bagger...zero respect from men with those types. Effective leaders, not managers, can achieve great things. Gerrard may not have been the greatest tactician but than man can lead. Men want to be lead.2 points

I agree with @Graeme Ro55 (i think it was you mate, might be someone else) about looking forward to putting this behind us and what's next. I feel like a bit of weight has left my shoulders, still carrying a bit though..hopefully the new gaffer can bear the brunt of that when he comes in. Hopefully the players look less downtrodden also, it's a privilege to wear that shirt - play like you're enjoying it, not full of fear.2 points

To be honest, it sounds all good and promising, but fast forward a couple of weeks and the team filled with guys like Devine and Rice getting scudded would have the fans in an uproar. We are dreadful as a club for actually blooding youths, but we also cant afford to just start going crazy with it. Guys like Sterling will no doubt be quite a bit ahead of folk like Devine, and it should be him who we are giving the shot to first.2 points

I went for Butland. It was either him or Sima. I knew Butland did his best throughout the game and can't remember if Sima did tbh. I think I have erased it from my memory.2 points

They're the same names that get spouted for everything at the moment, bar Muscat, and that's just the usual ex player link. Lampard. Jesus wept, I'd rather have Murty back.2 points

Shame it didn't work out i really like Beale. Off that list i would take Bielsa. Muskat feels a bit on the nose. You are looking for lightening to strike twice in the same spot.2 points

I think the leaks about Muscat, Potter and John Eustace indicate the board have been sounding people out. I just hope some of the people they have been sounding out are better quality than those. The J League has 5 weeks left I hope Davis & co are not in place to keep the seat warm for Muscat.. Many will point to Ange and call it a lazy link but don't forget we have an investor / director with a presence in Japan and Asia who spoke publicly about connection's he has in Japan and South Korean football in Stuart Gibson.2 points

Anyone who watched that Kilmarnock defeat and thought he could turn it around was on a heavy dose of deludemol. The red flags were abundant that day.2 points

when you say personnel is not the issue, do you think we have a strong enough squad to win the league? I think Butland has been a brilliant signing, Cantwell too, but so far the others haven't produced enough for me and I'm concerned they are poorer than the players they've replaced.2 points

Reminds me of your match thread comments. Constant reactionary negativity. The board made the correct decision getting rid of Beale - he was a joke. None of us know how Davis will do, how long he'll be manager or who is lined up to take the role on a permanent basis yet, so chill yer beans.2 points
