Sunday was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Under Beale the only big game we've won was against a fairly rubbish Servette. His results against Celtc have been woeful and that's largely down to his poor team selections, tactics and substitutions. Against the dross, we've barely managed one good 90 minute performance. We got absolutely scudded in Eindhoven. Our defence is shambolic and continues to give away daft goals. Our signings, after twelve matches this season, look disappointing (Butland excepted). Our line ups and formations don't have any semblance of consistency. Beale constantly contradicts himself in interviews. He looks lost on the sidelines. Cantwell and Raskin seem to be slowly getting worse. They and other players are constantly played out of position. I could go on. It isn't working and there's no indication it's going to work.7 points

I'll admit to being grumpy, comes with the territory, but as for being an attack poodle, I identify as a Shih tzu. I was merely stating an opinion if that's OK with you. (did someone resign and make you grand master of GersNet discussion forums?) His leaving would have an impact IMO as he is the best option we current have at left back and its an unknown how it would effect our fortunes (unless you have a crystal ball or are related to Mystic Meg). Ridvan is like the invisible man, Sterling is right-footed so more suited to RB, Devine is a decent prospect but not ready for 1st team, same could be said of Yfeko but at this moment in time, he's probably the best option as a replacement but largely untried. Maybe there is another left back hiding somewhere in our squad but can't think of anyone else.5 points

I'd also use the quote “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. Therefore, the strategy behind the next appointment has to be different.4 points

Barisic and Tav are both good at going forward but not great defenders. Hopefully we keep Barisic until January but line up a replacement for him and sell him then. We need to get rid of everyone involved in 55 because they've all seen better days and staleness is apparent.4 points

What was the wild exaggeration? That we will be much worse off? I never said anything about Rangers fortunes, that’s your exaggeration mate. I just think getting rid of our best left back would be extremely daft with no back-up plan. I’m not impressed by the current backup.4 points

Yes, I remember the 2020 AGM, when they outlined the 4 pillars: 1. Tickets sales (we've done our bit there I'd say). 2. Commercial (Bisgrove increased that from a low base, but there's much more potential). 3. European income (We have had a few good years, the EL final run and CL qual. is about our limit), but we're not going to get that unless we invest in a manager and team that can achieve that success. 4. Player Trading (one decent year when we sold Paterson, Aribo and Bassey), but again is linked with success on the park. This year was poor because we held onto players too long and we were shit last year. The last two pillars have the most potential - but they need to find investment somehow to make those happen. And when they do, they need to continue to strengthen and go again. Hoping our managers have fairy dust or a magic hat, or hoping our rivals slip up, won't get us to where we need to be.3 points

I agree overall with your entire post there, I think he demonstrated how to have a vision, and how to implement it in a short space of time. What was key to him turning it around was the January transfer window and beating us in the league there after. No point moaning about the COVID stuff and moving games as its all history but it was a factor. But to the point I've quoted I'm not sure that's strictly true. They hired a chap as CEO to replace the outgoing Lawwell, he didn't last long to be replaced by their CFO. Recruited Gordon Strachan as some kind of DoF 'on loan' from Dundee and Mark Lawwell officially joined / got involved in their recruitment on the playing side. I suppose its subjective but i wouldnt see that as stability.3 points

Professional perception. There is little enticing about this club for managerial candidates. It is a career landmine. It is viewed as a tinpot league with a feudalistic hierarchical structure. Transfer budgets are miniscule. The fanbase is viewed as unyielding, overly demanding and often schizophrenic. Will there be Europe? Yes, but refer back to miniscule budget. Sacking Beale four games into a 'rebuilding' campaign will only solidify that perception in the professional community. Whether we like it or not, Beale should remain until his year mark. In the interim, the club should be actively searching for VIABLE candidates. Withstanding a complete collapse...of course. However, the club need time to show they have both given it, and to find someone who is willing to sign. Cause this club is like wrestlin a porcupine. Even if you win, you still look like you lost.2 points

Agree. It was put in place to stop the big clubs just going out and buying a player if they had injuries or so on. Instead it’s led to them stockpiling players. It was a worthwhile attempt but as always the authorities are a few steps behind. Players were always cup tied before it so clubs couldn’t add to European squads if needed. It worked fine as it was.2 points

Was one of the job requirements turning a blind eye to payments to trophy centres?2 points

Yeah that’s fair but I think their overall structure is more solid and professional, to the point where the things you’ve highlighted were issues they were able to work through without it translating to negatives on the pitch. An anecdotal example I would cite was when I was approached by a recruiter to a role with Celtic’s internal audit team. It was probably 10 years ago now, and of course I knocked back the opportunity, but it’s just a small glimpse into how they have been operating on a more professional level for quite some time.2 points

Okay, what happens when we don't have success on the park? players' value decreases, which will happen especially when they can't lock down a place in the team, get injured, or the team keep failing to win trophies. The transfer kitty will quickly erode year-on-year. Player trading doesn't work when the team fails and academy players, like Paterson, breaking through is very rare. Balancing the books now and again is required I get that, but if we want to challenge for the money on offer from CL participation, they need to find a way. Again, if not, we have to rely our rivals having a really poor season (Lennon) or we accept that we will be the #2 team in Scotland, happy with the odd cup success. Maybe we form a new firm with St Johnstone.2 points

For my take, I think he's approaching last chance saloon but not quite there yet. He wont be able to sustain any more big hits, so really its a big challenge for his managerial nous to get some fire into the squad's belly and to go a run of wins. 4 points behind after 4 domestic games is poor, but there is still time to turn things around. I have less confidence, but sometimes when you persevere and come out of the end of a bad spell that can be the making of a manager.2 points

I think one of the factors in our impatience was seeing the success Postecoglu had in turning round their squad to wiping the floor domestically. Much as that hurt, it set the standard. So when we see Beale's big turnaround stuttering, and with little credit in the bank generally, we saw the tide turning almost full circle during the course of the first half. Postecoglu though had the benefit of a much more stable club off the pitch. As does Rodgers, but he's also likely to get that team playing better than they are just now, so we might not have had a better chance to beat them this season - another factor that added to the ire raining down on Beale on Sunday.2 points

I'd agree with that, specifically in relation to Rangers. I'm hoping the next manager has no previous Rangers connection whatsoever - the 'bring him home' nonsense has to stop.2 points

The board always said that the rebuild would be front loaded and they gave Gerrard funds to rebuild the team, that led to us winning the league and reaching a Euro final. The problem is now that there's no excess funds to spend on giving managers more cash. The well of the cash from directors has largely run dry and we therefore have to rely on player sales and fund generated from Europe to firstly pay for our day-to-day expenses, including wages, and then go towards player purchases. Gerrard didn't want any of his squad sold so it's his own fault that his budget was limited. It's a fact of life that we have to balance the books nowadays. We've spent £14m+ on 3 players and that's not bad going.2 points

Graeme Souness said after meeting Bisgrove that there are too many non-footballing people making decisions are big clubs and continually making the incorrect decisions. Maybe something in that.2 points

So are you saying that the board should allow the same time and patience given to Gerrard, i.e. 2 seasons to show continual progress, win a title in yr3? Aren't we beyond that stage in the clubs development now though? do we give every new manager 3 yrs to win a title? I agree with you regarding 'those upstairs', this is their mess to be honest. They haven't really backed any manager financially: Gerrard left due to the lack of funds to kick-on from 55. Gio wasn't backed, although he maintained he had the right squad (blinkered by the EL run and momentum built from Gerrard reign), that ultimately lost him his job. Beale has not been backed, books have just been balanced and arguably we are weaker as a result (I'm comparing quality of players that came in versus those that left rather than form in the last season or so). Whilst I don't think Beale has been given the tools i.e. the quality he was able to bring in, I don't think he has the managerial competence to manage us anyway. But again, it was a fairly easy and economical option by the board to hire Beale in the first place. We need a winning strategy from the board particularly in terms of financial investment and recruitment (DoF, manager, scouting). And yes, they may have to dip deep into their pockets again, but the rewards and returns are there if they do.2 points

It is more about those upstairs taking us to a place where we can win a league title. - Finance - Structure (football dept.) - Recruitment (managerial) - Communication Financially, we are well behind. Structurally, we haven't settled. Recruitment. All over the place although credit to DK for appointing Gerrard and showing patience. Communication and mgmt. of expectation levels has been unrealistic. Basically, we are still building back the club to where we want to be and some realism might make the journey smoother and even shorter.2 points

Maybe if we just stick with him he'll figure out how to manage a team. Then we won't have to sack him. Then we can all live happily ever after.2 points

What has Ridvan done to suggest he is even short-term replacement for Borna? Since arriving Ridvan has been constantly missing through injury and "settling in period" and when he has played, he's hardly stood out. I don't think anyone is saying our fortunes are tied to Borna. All people are doing is expressing an opinion that Borna is the best option we currently have at left back (doesn't necessarily mean he is great option, just the best we have).2 points

I think the League Cup final in particular was a managerial disaster and was the first real warning for me that something wasn't right with this regime. I don't know anyone who looked at the team selection that day and didn't think Beale had completely misjudged the game. With eyes thus opened, it's been clear that game wasn't a one-off. What also worries me is that the players must have similar doubts.1 point

Anyone watching Rangers' travails over the years must recognise the symptoms of a dressing room at odds with the manager. There can be no hope of success if that's the case .... and only one way forward.1 point

I find it interesting how Raskin and to an extent Cantwell have gone well off the boil since last season. Perhaps suggesting this manager isn't creating the constructive dressing room the players would like to see. I suspect there are some unhappy players in our squad.1 point

You say balancing the books is required now and again, but where does the cash come from in the year where we want to overspend? Borrowing cash got us into trouble before and I'm not sure who would lend us, say £10 million. Our best way out is with a manager who can spot stars and bring them in cheaply, and build a successful team that way. With Cantwell and Raskin, I was hopeful we had that, and maybe the other players brought in recently are good but need another manager? Other than that, it's not an easy answer. I'm sure our directors have been trying to come up with a solution.1 point

If he has a clause in his contract that allows us to sack him for £500k within 12 months of his appointment, surely the time is now?1 point

No, each set of circumstances should be judged on their own merits or lack of.1 point

If we sack him now, it gives us an opportunity to sack his replacement in January, then his replacement at the end of the season. That was a bit tongue in cheek, but the position of Rangers manager has a become a poisoned challis over the last decade. Maybe one day we'll get it right.......1 point

While the board have the benefit of seeing what's going on behind the scenes and speaking with the management team and players and so seeing a fuller picture than we do, they're also well aware of supporter sentiment plus are watching the same performances we are. I've no inside information but I'd be astonished if directors haven't discussed it, even informally. They know Beale is under pressure, Beale knows he's under pressure. I doubt anything will happen in the coming days, but I do think he's only a couple more poor performances away from the board deciding this can't go on. Beale doesn't have credit in the bank, it would be hard for any board to simply ignore supporter sentiment for an extended period. If Rangers can somehow find form and start winning with some style then Beale will be fine, the challenge the board have is whether they think that scenario is likely.1 point

You jest, of course and earn scornful laughter from Rousseau but auld Dick would have a plan, albeit unsophisticated and would drill the players to implement it as best they might and he would eliminate all midfield dwamming waiting for something to happen. The team only wakens up when the happening turns out to be the ball in Rangers’ net then they scurry about a bit.1 point
