I was speaking with friends earlier about the Amazon documentary on Manchester City that came out a couple of years ago. I watched it as I curious to know more about Guardiola. I'd expected lots of talk about overlapping, inverted false 9s and venn diagrams of spacial awareness and xG. In actual fact you discovered that 'Pep' is actually a bundle enthusiasm and energy who, when speaking with players, spends most of his time psyching them up and getting the side wound up to go out and play. It was a slightly more sophisticated version of 'get stuck right into them from the first whistle, lads'. Now I'm sure there's a lot of false 9s and inverted overlaps and all that stuff going on in training but the sheer simplicity of what Guardiola does was a surprise but afterwards I realised that's what all successful managers do, they fill their players with belief and desire. It's a room of young men full of testosterone, there's no need to make it complicated. I've been thinking about it this week. I wonder if we underestimated how important Gerrard's simple communication was. Everyone said Beale was the brain, and that might be so, but when Gerrard said "let's go" on his unveiling as our manager we all responded positively. Gerrard is passion and desire, as a player someone other players admired and listened too. Beale seems a much more considered and thoughtful person, but does he instil passion in our players? I suspect Gerrard's final words in the dressing room carried more weight than Beale's do now. The great Brian Clough, who won titles with Derby and Nottingham Forest as well as two European Cups had a well documented poor spell at Leeds Utd in between those two jobs. What's often overlooked in his time at Leeds is his long time assistant, Peter Taylor, didn't go to Leeds with him. Clough's 'magic' didn't work at Leeds. He didn't win over the dressing room and he left after only a few months. At Forest he was once again joined by Taylor and the rest is history. Clough famously rarely visited the training ground, he'd watch training but never took part. His thinking was if his players heard his voice too much they would stop hearing what he said. Yet for all his genius, without Taylor, Clough's style didn't work. When him and Taylor fell out and Taylor left Forest they went into a terminal decline that ended with relegation. Having watched us this season, not just Wednesday and yesterday, I worry we've given Peter Taylor our manager's job. Our performances have lacked cohesion and style, i've no idea what formation and type of football we're meant to be playing. Yesterday we seemed to be playing a long ball to the big lad up front, I've not seen that tactic for over 20 years, I certainly didn't expect to see it yesterday. We had a speed merchant in decent form on one wing and never gave him the ball. They'd two rookie centre halves and we never thought of putting Matondo through the middle to see if that might make them drop deeper and create more space for our midfield who were being overrun for most of the first half. When we did make changes we took off the two forwards who both scored, albeit chalked off, and left on the one who looks short of fitness, sharpness and possibly confidence to the disbelief of almost the entire support. I'm not one who turns on managers easily. A search of my posts will show I was in favour of persevering with GvB until close to the very end. I was very disappointed when Le Guen left, I felt he should have been backed. But I lost faith in Pedro after the second Old Firm hammering, months before the Progres fiasco. Unfortunately I've lost faith in Beale. I could just about accept the new players struggling to settle and adapt. But both Cantwell and Raskin are shadows of the players we saw last season, what's happened to them? I know it's early in the season, but I feel I've watched this film before and I know how it ends. It's just a question of when and for all concerned it should be sooner rather than later.11 points

We did convert one of our chances, and nobody can say if we would have lost or not if the goal had been allowed. so it's incorrect to say that's not why we lost. It's one of the reasons. It's a bit arrogant to tell people what people should and should not be focussing on. It's not an either/or. We can debate more than one aspect of the game.6 points

All this indignation about a refereeing decision that cannot now be changed is merely deflecting from the dismal failure of the manager and players alike to score goals and stop Celtic scoring. Referees are often a problem for Rangers, everyone knows and expects that. What I don't expect or in any way accept is the sort of pathetic performances we've witnessed since the season began. We didn't lose yesterday because of a dodgy refereeing decision. We lost because we couldn't convert any of the many chances we had and because we couldn't string six passes together before surrendering possession of the football. That's what we should be focussed on.6 points

Our 3 new strikers, that we shelled out god knows how much on, scored a grand total of 26 goals in 114 games between them last season. Why did anyone think they were going to turn around that kind of statistic? Fucking mental.6 points

This is most interesting. Not everyone will support the club on this but I do.5 points

I've looked at it again and there's not enough evidence to suggest he was swinging his foot at the ball. He had taken a few steps without swinging his foot at the ball and it looks to me as if this was just another step. It's in no way a clear and obvious error and I really don't think it's a foul.5 points

So with ex-referees having different views shows VAR should never have got involved. It wasn't a clear and obvious error.5 points

I don't know how on earth you could say that. We had a clear view in the main stand front and didn't think it was a foul at the time and the video confirms that. Cheated by VAR and the ref but that changes nothing for me. We were a shambles again. It is now affecting the players badly. They lack confidence which will be made worse by the fans reaction today. I am not blaming the fans. If we don't change the manager soon it will be too late and we will lose the League cup and be so behind in the league we won't be able to recover. Apologies for the rant.4 points

I genuinely can't believe people are still running with the Dessers was fouled shtick. There's sticking up for yourselves and then there's yahoo style madness and that fits into the latter category.4 points

Don't usually get caught out with these but a very dear friend of mine (aged 70 and female) was verbally abused by middle aged drunken Rangers fans on the Inverness train after the Ross County game. She was subjected to a tirade of shameful sexual insults and sectarian abuse because she told them their behaviour was out of order. They have been reported to the Transport police so I thought the article might be connected to that. It was very upsetting and embarrassing to hear her first hand account of this.3 points

Guardiola puts defenders in midfield, in order to dominate the middle of the park. Beale puts midfielders in defence, in order to vacate the midfield and allow the opposition playmakers an easy afternoon stroll. He buys players and drops them for big games. He plays our best player(s) out of position. He talks shite. He can't beat Celtc in a competitive match. Our defence is just as bad as it was last season.3 points

I think it's more about us not losing site of the bigger picture by just focusing on the disallowed goal/penalty. The football has been rotten. The team selection/formation bewildering. We have players that should of put Celtic to the sword, they didn't. Why is this? Now we can say that if the goal stood, What's to say, they wouldn't of exploited our lack of game plan and just scored another. After all let's be honest, would we have had confidence that the team would hold onto the lead and indeed scored more.? I honestly think their is a malaise running through the whole football operation. We need either for Mb to find some steel or someone else who does.3 points

Aye but his new footballing method of 'no midfield as they're covering for the defence' might just need time to bed in.3 points

Yeah, and dignified silence is working out so well. Alfies "goal" at Parkhead and now Roofes "goal" yesterday. If those are "fouls", we'd be as well stopping football.3 points

Was in from the side and got his foot ahead of the defenders without obstructing the defender, the defender fell when he kicked Dessers foot. Clear as day.3 points

100%, It wasn't a clear and obvious error and therfore VAR should have gotten involved in. However, I am still struggling to understand how it was a foul in any case - obvious error or not. Rousseau states that “The attacker has not played the ball at this point and puts his foot in between defender and ball." - I don't see that, he plants his foot next to the defender, and the defender falls after clipping the back of Dessers leg as he continues his run. As you can see below, Dessers does not put himself between the defender and the ball. He won the ball fairly. Listen, it is splitting opinion, even between referees, so according to the Laws of VAR, Muir should not have gotten involved as it was NOT a clear and obvious error to allow the goal.3 points

Turns out Gerrard was the tactical genius all along. Wonder if McInnes will be in the stand at our next game getting selfies taken in the louden.3 points

Now that we have had 24 hours to calm down what’s everyone’s view on the manager’s future? Should he be replaced asap? I don’t see anyway back for him, his team selections & tactics are unfathomable. He has never won a big match when it really counted, against a weakened Celtic team we stood off them. I would sack him now before the inevitable happens, we bomb in Europe, miles behind in league.2 points

In a lifetime supporting Rangers I've seen this embarrassing scene far too often. There are some real barrel-scrapings among the Rangers support, perhaps fewer than there once were but too many are still among us. An obsession with alcohol is much too common among those who can't handle it without turning into animals.2 points

That's enough reason on its own to sack him. A good DoF is essential to prevent the sort of colossal recruitment failure we've just witnessed. It sounds like Beale is running on pure ego.2 points

Was it just Muir on VAR? No panel? I was keen for VAR before it was introduced, but now I'm not so sure. VAR is supposed to correct wrong decisions, in this case it wronged a right decision. If it boils down to one man's interpretation of the rules we're not any better off with VAR.2 points

I can hardly believe it. I logged on this morning and was surprised to see Roofe’s goal still hasn’t been awarded. Need to complain harder folks.2 points

Which basically tells you all you need to know about the decision. Former ref Conroy summed it up today. No clear And obvious error so VAR shouldn't have gotten involved and even after they did, Robertson should have stuck with his original decision.2 points

Neil McCann made the point on last night's Sportscene that neither Lagerbielke or Calum Mcgregor complained at the tackle. When the ball was thumped into the net by Roofe, McGregor throws his arms in the air and begins to remonstrate with the centre back for his error. Charlie Mulgrew found solace in the laws of the game as did the rest of the PQ CSC. Sellik got away with one and, they know it. Even Rodgers post match was parroting the narrative reference the laws of the game.2 points

None actually. Lagerbielke didn't even think it was a foul - otherwise he'd have been waving his arm around like a madman.2 points

BTW - sick of hearing this comment 'we need to take the handbrake off'. If you try to drive your car with the handbrake on you shouldn't be driving.2 points

The defender is turning and not really in control. It's pure supposition that the defender is about to play the ball with his left foot.2 points

Why would Rangers fans post pics of Rangers fans fighting amongst themselves? Talk about giving the press ammunition and the rest of Scottish football a good laugh. Yesterday was embarrassing enough on the park!2 points

The other thing that worries me is that if Roofes goals had stood, we would have continued with our tactics of sitting back and hitting long balls. We only came out in the 2nd half with a but more attacking I tent because we had to. Reactive not proactive as usual.2 points
-
Don't complain though because, well, er, Celtic fans complained about some stuff at some point. Where did it ever get them?2 points
-
I see ex-SPFL referee Steve Conroy has now said Roofe’s goal should have stood as there was no ‘clear & obvious’ error by the referee who did originally give the goal. VAR should not have intervened. The Celtic defender was caught in possession by Dessers. Simple as that2 points

If you feel you are being fleeced don't buy/cancel your CCCs or whatever,I get concession due to age but would pay full price if necessary. If you want to complain about being fleeced look no further than kiosk catering prices---that's what I call being fleeced.2 points

Michael Beale cannot, may not, must not, will not, be dismissed today: it is his birthday, apparently. Do we send felicitations? Many happy returns? (He's already had one so far unhappy return, so perhaps not.)1 point
