Our defence is a worry. All we’ve done is let Helander go & replace him with 35 year old Balogen. And bring in Dujon Sterling who’s a RB and won’t get a game Doesnt look like strengthening to me5 points

It's not going to be a controversial poll. Jack Butland is the only new signing who has justified his recruitment. The rest, a bit of a disaster so far. Eight games or so into the season, it's telling that so many are reduced to making predictions about who will "come good" ....... "eventually".4 points

I hope you're wrong Gonzo but I do get the feeling that MB somewhat overthinks things a bit too much. People can say what they want about Postacoglu but he had a plan and it seemed that he brought in players to fit that plan. MB has bought a lot of players but as of yet we've seen very little continuity and identity in the team.4 points

I don't think Brighton need to be worrying about an extra 1.2 million they would gain from doing this, they are raking it in with their transfer model and 85+ million from being in the premier league. The amount of land they have bought and turned into pitches at their new training ground about a mile away from me is crazy, they are helping the small airport next door to the training ground develop into a swanky facility, the roads around that area have have been upgraded a lot they have built housing on derelict land around the training ground they are very very well run club. Rangers don't have the luxury of premier league money and all the benefits that come with it, these matches are highly sought after so can be charged for more as they will always get snapped up by someone. It is a shame as fans want cheaper tickets and not seen to be as just customers but Rangers live in a different reality than premier league teams, the board are only going with the hand they are dealt albeit to detriment of the fans wallets.3 points

Got sent this by old pal today, I cannot remember this. On this day In 1955---- Rangers and Celtic were drawn in the same league cup section. Both won their opening 3 games--- then met at Ibrox in game 4 --Celtic won 4-1.---- They then met at Parkhead in game 5 --four days later.--- Celtic were confident they could get the win to crown them group winners. Final score Celtic 0 Rangers 4. -----What a turnaround in four days. Rangers won their last sectional game to top the group and qualify for the quarter finals3 points

Only one winner out of that Butland. However a new hero is about to step forward tomorrow..............2 points

Butland is the only one with pass marks a month in. The rest seem to be downgrades on who they have replaced, as is the manager himself.2 points

I don’t know what’s wrong at Chelsea are we seeing players who have secured good contracts now adopting an attitude of we don’t give a toss we will still get paid .2 points

Butland is the only signing that has, thus far, improved us. In order to predict which newbies will come ‘good’ we need to define ‘good’. For example, did Kent make it ‘good’? Was exciting to watch at his peak, could turn a player inside out, put the fear into them, but most of the time ferreted down a dead end or beat himself, and his numbers suggested he didn’t make it to ‘greatness’. If Kent was just good, then I think most of the attackers should be capable of good, but not great. Cifuentes will hold down a place and I have high hopes he will settle and do well. Sima and Dowell -more squad caliber for me. Sterling will not make it with us, Balogun is purely back up for this season. Lammers has something there but maybe not aggressive enough for us. If Roofe can stay fit, one of Danilo or Dessers will spend much time on the bench, I haven’t seen enough yet to know which. Neither will be as good as Morelos in his pomp. Overall, other than Butland, the signings are not impressing me and I don’t think we’ve found any rough diamonds with that lot. Gone backwards IMO. Beale will be accountable and will be gone by the end of the season. That’s my honest opinion/prediction on what I’ve felt so far, but I hope I’m very wrong.2 points

I have to say Butland, who has looked like an upgrade. One cavil: I had hoped that a better performing 'keeper would translate into a better performing, more solid, more confident, defence, but I not sure that this has happened (to say the least).2 points

OK. He was damn good.2 points

Regardless of who he picks, IMO Beale has to go for it and be positive from the first whistle. Forget the cautious crap and focus on what we can do to them as opposed to what they might do to us. A victory brings two things. It gives our manager and squad a shot in the arm after the CL debacle and it also plants more seeds of doubt in their fans eyes about Rodgers. Celtic will be without CCV for the next 7/8 weeks. He's their best defender by a country mile so we need to exploit any slips during that time.2 points

If we win 7-0 on Sunday I'll still have serious doubts about Beale. The man makes too many strange mistakes.2 points

Referee : Don Robertson. Assistant Referee 1 : Frank Connor Assistant Referee 2 : David Roome We have endured a month of both broadcast and print media telling us there would be no Sellik supporters in the Stadium on Sunday?1 point

Yes, I realise that but everyone knew we'd be making one of the UEFA leagues and the CL was £150 last year. £120 is not unexpected, is it?1 point

Yes, but close to signing for Santos if reports are to be believed.1 point

Neither would I but I have been given free tickets every now and again from a season ticket holder I know and I won't turn my nose up at something for free, I feel nothing for Brighton they could become a huge European team it still would not pull me towards following them, I knew no Brighton fans growing up in worthing now they are everywhere I go.1 point

Thanks for the info on Brighton, they certainly seem like a club on the rise and I've just watched them dominate against Newcastle. As for the pricing, I understand that Brighton can lower prices as they have other revenue streams, but £120 towards the top end of "acceptable" and close to being unacceptable. The only positive is that if you are on CCCS, it will 3 separate payments. I'm sure fans will moan about the cosy, but likelihood is that vast majority will purchase them at this price.1 point

St.Mirren drawing with Livi means a win tomorrow we go top and hopefully stay there unless Motherwell win at Hearts. Even after last Wednesday I'm cautiously optimistic that at this time tomorrow we will be top of the league. The crowd will pull us through this one.1 point

I believe it's largely down to attitude and character. Too many seem terrified of the expectation that comes with playing for Rangers. We haven't signed winners who truly believe in themselves, that much was clear in the way we capitulated in Eindhoven. I actually fear the worst on Sunday.1 point

£120 for 3 matches but at least the CCCS payments are staggered. For a comparison, Brighton are charging £75 for their 3 match package.1 point

I doubt if Roofe is fit enough to play a full game therefore I would start him and ask him to do as much damage as possible in 60/65 minutes. Not sure whether I would start with Matondo. I like the idea of him arriving on the pitch with the game more open and stretched. It's a tough one and I do not envy the task Beale has got on his hands. I just hope he's more pro-active as opposed to reactive.1 point

Butland, by quite some distance. I still think Dessers, Cifuentes and Danilo will prove their worth, whereas I've already written off Sima and Dowell, who have looked rubbish.1 point
-
I have no doubts that Danilo and Lammers will come good eventually, Dessers more like what you expect of a decent striker, but not exactly special. Balogun will be his solid self, if called upon. Cifuentes has been okay, a sort of Stuart McCall midfield dynamo whom you do not exactly expect great things of, but 100 % effort. Dowell and Sterling have quite some work to do, but they need to get up to speed and probably some game time to adjust. Butland has been the brightest so far, good stops, only the odd unnecessary adventure into a packed area during a corner.1 point

I think Butland has been the best thus far. He's just slotted right in. I think Danilo will come good.1 point

Recruitment was carried out to remove our attacking problems, IF we use more true strikers up front. Last season we de facto continued to try to get past Scottish defences with one central striker and sided-attacker, who usually did not come up with enough goals and/or assists to make this a viable system. We did this a few times over the years and only changed the quality of the players. The results, as you can see in the trophy room, remained the same. Now, so far this season, Matondo (22) stepped into a more prominent role and has become about as efficient as Kent. Lots of effort and running, little end product. Same with Lammers, who is more of a centre forward though. Sima (22) has come to the right wing (though he has almost played as often as a centre-forward). Dessers is a straight hardy centre-forward as well, so we replaced Morelos and Colak (whom we could easily have kept, IMHO) with two strikers who should be given time as anyone else. Some hit the ground running, others don't. (That said, the way our front line is changed every other game does not help.) Added to them in the attacking roles we have Danilo and Roofe as strikers, the latter can play on either wing (and, especially when fit, is heavily under-used), plus Lawrence and Wright as wingers. Cantwell has been this season's stand-out so far, the bright spark of our creative play. With Lowry gone, letting Hagi go as well might come back to haunt us. Raskin (22) will play further up field with Jack and/or Lundstram behind him, Cifuentes probably too. These two chaps are relatively new to the Scottish game and our demands, we can but hope that they strike a quick understanding with the other new boys. As you can read above, Bears can become fickle rather quickly. The jury is very much out on Dowell, who has so far not really convinced me ... but I'll give them all some time. The main spot of bother remains the defence. Ridvan suffered an injury at the most inopportune moment, so we remain with our old warhorses Tavernier and Barisic at fullback, with but Devine as a true back-up. Davies might play left-back, Balogun on the right. They would be rather traditional fullbacks though, which is, pending on the opposition, not a bad thing. I'm not exactly sure what has happened to Davies, who did not perform that badly last season - at least not any worse than the others. For some reason, with some players (e.g. Davies) the support seems to remember their errors more vividly than with others, Goldson attempted an OG last weekend (neat header past the post) and succeeded in midweek, while watching de Jong outjump him and his colleagues to score. IMHO, the only centre-half who clad himself in any glory this season is Souttar, Goldson has one good game in five, the rest hardly plays. The gaffer has/had his favourites for certain positions (Kent, Tavernier, Goldson) and we'll hardly ever know whether the "second row" players will be better, if given a chance. Unless injured, I doubt that we will see much change with regard to Goldson being a first pick. That said, every now and then, we should try three at the back to avoid another PSV disaster. Here's a list of freebie defenders still out there. Jerome Boateng, anyone? Butland is an able replacement for McGregor, wonder what will happen to McLaughlin now. Biggest hope is that we change tactics according to the task at hand with players best suited for the role required. Here's our team by position.1 point

Real Betis are first up at the Stadium, how long before we get the Jock Wallace connection, an interview with Ted McMinn and, the derivation of their green and white jersey? Then, it is Limassol. Literally, they will wheel out the Jakey's Jakey, Neil Lennon because he jaked about Cyprus for several months. Prague will be a reminder of Viktoria Zizkov.1 point
