  1. There's obviously been a lot of speculation about the alleged £1m compensation/cancellation fee that we have received for not buying Tillman. I was just listening to Davie Edgar on today's Daily Update and he described it differently, and I hadn't heard this take before. We indicated that we wanted to buy him and Bayern immediately activated the buy-back clause that they had built in so effectively we got the difference, which was around £1m. This makes sense and it probably a more realistic take on what happened. In addition, there is a sell-on fee so we would get a percentage of the €14m(?) fee that PSV have agreed with Bayern.

  2. What relevance did Iron Maiden's Eddie Stormtrooper have? What relevance do the Baseball Furies from The Warriors have? It was a terrific, beautiful display that has annoyed everyone it was supposed to.

  3. Despite being under the cosh for spells in the game I was disappointed with the draw. We had one or two excellent chances late in the game to get the victory. We were too narrow at times and our fullbacks were very isolated. It is no surprise that we played better after Lundstram and Matondo came on. The midfield were surprisingly poor. I thought Cifuentes was caught out early doors and was out of it but recovered well. Jack ad Raskin were poor. If Jack isn't fit he should not be playing at that level. Cantwell was really good but the ref did us a huge favour by not sending him off. We would have had no complaints if he had. It is great to have a keeper who cuts out the high ball. Our 2 central defenders played out their skin. More of the same next week hopefully.

  4. Reflecting on the game, our much maligned defence played very well despite losing 2 goals, especially one from a set-piece. Goldson and Souttar were rocks at the heart of the defence. Butland had a good game as well. Our much maligned attackers also played well / were effective with Sima and Matondo scoring marvelous goals and Dessers claiming 2 assists. The let down for me was the midfield. Jack, Raskin and Cifu were very poor last night. Thought PSV tired and / or looked nervous in the final 10 minutes of the game and we were unlucky not to score a third (Danilo chance and Matondo's rocket from edge of box). The tie is on a knife edge, but with the same level of commitment and performance next week, getting a result is not out of the realms of possibility. Also, thought the subs were correct and at the right time.

  6. Agreed. I'm not an expert but Bill the Butcher was a nativist (see the Milan group using the same word meaning) who was intent on protecting the interests of native-born or 'established inhabitants' against those of immigrants, in this case Irish catholics during the great famine, but I think that's largely incidental. However, it could have been used by Milan Ultras (I don't know) to demonstrate their status as the true natives of Milan, since they were founded before their rivals. Think it shows great creativity and intimidation by a group that self-find these great Tifos and displays, and should be allowed to create what they like within the law. What do that other mob do? Childish effigies and offensive and unlawful banners. Glad we don't stoop so low.

  8. I think the result is colouring the performance. I lost count of the number of posts on here complaining about the performance of the team and several individuals. I think we defended well, though. We restricted them to longer, low quality shots (their xG was 1.24 compared to our 1.08 for the whole game despite having double the number of shots). I still think our pressing needs to improve: it's too disjointed and easy for teams to play through us. I saw Dessers moaning a few times because he wasn't being backed up in the press. I don't mind the fact we had 162 passes to their 519, but we need to be better in offensive transitions. Our passing accuracy was only 62%; that's 40% of passes going nowhere. When we countered successfully it was actually quite effective, as we saw towards the end.

  9. I've got a pal, who I sometimes sit next to at matches and it's amazing the amount of times he states something about a player and I think to myself 'that's the exact opposite of what I was thinking!'.

  10. I think we're being a tad harsh on our midfield last night, considering the job they were asked to do against (frankly) a better team. The three of them had a monumental task. Ryan Jack is coming in for some criticism here but I thought him and Raskin did a huge job protecting our defence, particularly our roaming fullbacks. Without their sheer work rate, particularly out of possession, we could easily have been overwhelmed in that first half and it's no surprise they all tired later on.

  11. I think playing PSV suits us better than the usual SPFL low block stuff. I was not surprised by last nights performance and I think we have a good chance of qualifying. They got very lucky with their second goal last night. We did to PSV last night what the SPFL teams do to us. Have the ball, move it out wide - you cant hurt us there - and move it back. We wait for our chance, press, win it back then hit on the break. On one occasion we failed to block 2 crosses and they scored from a really good dummy and midfielder not being tracked. It was a poor goal to lose, lots went wrong. PSV looked good last night, technical, move the ball about quickly, pace out wide, midfielders & fullbacks get forward etc. How many times did they play the ball into de Jongs feet and run off him in a central / goal mouth area? ( I didnt see any and thats how you hurt teams) I think if we play in Eindhoven like we did last night we can win. We will get chances. They look poor at the back. Special mention to Dessers, thought he pressed really well and at the right times. Another 2 assists and the ball to matondo was 🔥

  12. I thought the Bill the Butcher TIFO was most clever. It has angered all the right people which is nice.

  13. Decent performance and an entertaining game. Still very much in the tie which if we're being honest, we'd have taken prior to kick off.

  14. A decent result & better performance although we did ride our luck a bit at times. The better the opposition the better we play it seems. At least we’re still in the tie. I thought Matondo gave them problems when he came on. He will be pleased to have scored his first Rangers goal. I thought they were very nervy at the end. Hopefully we’ve given them something to think about for next week. And once again I thought Butland was excellent in goal but I still think we’ve one or two issues up front to be sorted

  16. As much as the detail, the scale and visual impact of the display was undoubtedly impressive, I did wonder why they chose a character that was famous for making an anti-Irish sentiment in a film. Dare I suggest a display showing our great managers, players or victories would have been more inspiring and appropriate? There's a museum across the road showcasing this in great detail. Ultimately, it seems to me that a lot of energy and time has gone into trying to wind up the other lot rather than celebrating something that we've achieved. And we call them obsessed.

  19. Not really relevent to this topic, but it was good to see Tom Lawrence played an hour for B Team today and scored in a 4-2 win over Hamilton. Think he is still a few weeks away from 1st team action.

  20. Correct, sorry I was thinking the second goal. Raskin was meant to be marking him, but he was drawn to the first player who dummied it, so if Raskin had stayed where he was he might have blocked it!

  21. We're right under their skin by the way, De Jong losing it at half time and Veerman slaughtering us post match. I'm fairly zen about our chances because I think we can play and defend better. A lot of our players are inexperienced in Europe (Butland,Cantwell,Cifuentes, Raskin etc) so the manager is right when saying that this will be a building block for the future a la our first qualifying campaign under Gerrard. Encouraging I think. I can see what's happening, there's still some morons slating the team but some people love the misery.

  22. Goldson for me, him & Souttar were solid despite that unlucky 2nd goal. I also thought both full backs played well as they were up against pacy, skillful wingers and I expected them both to be torn a new arsehole. They were better than us in the midfield area, but we defended well and created enough chances to win in the end. We finished the stronger team which is pleasing. We will need a similar performance over there to have any chance of qualifying. Special mention for Matondo who, hopefully, is looking like the player he can be.

  24. Cantwell and Raskin's fire ant tactics threw them off. They harried PSV the entire time they were on the pitch. Man for man PSV are much more talented than us. That hustle and breakup play got us those two goals. If they keep that up on Weds, we have a shot.

  27. We could do with a Brahim Hemdani type player for Europe. Don't need one for 90% of domestic games but games against them and in Europe this type of player would be useful.

  30. Some good and some bad tonight. I thought that P.S.V. were able to drag our players all over the place. Cifuentes looked like he was up against a level of opposition that he wasn't used to but he did improve as the match went on. Raskin struggled. Two great goals though and we still have a chance in the next match.

  31. A fair result in the end and a couple of great goals from The Famous. Wee Matondo was unlucky with that volley, but Cantwell was lucky to stay on the park. Well done Rangers.

  32. There were good signs tonight but also some never-ending concerns. I like Dessers. He gets everywhere and causes the opposition lots of problems, albeit not by scoring much (yet). Our CBs played well and Cantwell was terrific. Cifuentes has something about him too. Full-backs up to their old tricks (Barisic largely in retreat mode and Tav getting caught out of position a few times). Sima may have scored a great goal but was hopeless otherwise. I doubt we'll qualify for the CL but we're still in it, so who knows.

  34. While some of the individual performances weren't all we could hope for, as a team I think we did perform well, particularly given the quality of the opposition. I'd agree about the pressing generally although there were times during the game when we did do it well. The likes of Cantwell and Dessers showed that they can keep going. Our passing, particularly by the midfield 3 was unusually poor and hopefully it'll improve next week with another game under our belts.

  36. With the exception of Butland, I wish some of our recent signings had hit the ground running as hard as Cantwell and Raskin did when they came on board. I thought Cantwell was excellent last night.

  37. I'm happy with that tonight, their manager thinks they played well and we all agree for 2 thirds of that game we were playing within ourselves so we've got a couple of gears to go which is encouraging. Would love to see us in the UCL again, it's where we should be with our history and support. P.S. Rabbi has to start away next week.
