Thanks to Weebluedevil for the constant updates, the frequency of the posting reflected the excitement of the game. Similar to my fellow Gersnetter, I watched the entire match and just like the first leg both teams were at it, hammer and tongs. The Genk skipper, And Heynen proved to be a poor sooth sayer earlier in the week when he was quoted as saying, "we are already looking beyond the Rangers tie, to the Champions League group stages". Certainly, he did not foresee being stretchered off in the fifth minute of tonight's game. Although the consequence of a red card for the Swiss player added weight to his prediction of Genk progression. The Belgians were in the ascendency and the Referee appeared to have a pocketful of Servette marked cards. One red card and seven yellow cards later, the side from the land of cuckoo clocks endured in excess of two hours of football to triumph 1-4 on penalties. They survived on barely 30% of possession with ten men making desperate tackles, blocks and, challenges. On one hand they deserved it, on the other they nicked the way their country's Bankers nicked Nazi gold and Jewish family heirlooms in the wake of World War Two. Two equalisers: one from a deflected free kick and, the other from a delightfully struck through ball. Being reduced did not change them, they are a counter attacking side. Servette proved their fitness and possess excellent mental fortitude. They exhibited a patience too and, we have to match all these attributes if we are to progress. A decent lead established at Ibrox will force them out of their shell in the land of triangular bees buzzing around triangular trees. Get it right at the Stadium and Geneva should be a Swiss roll over.3 points

That's it, Servette through to face the Famous!!!3 points

We’ve been reading this about Kamara for a few weeks now.3 points

Sakala gets goals and assists - there's no denying that.3 points

Totally agree. Even if it wasn't a Saudi club, I think we're giving him away for 3m. Very poor decision if true.2 points

Considering Jota went for over 20 million I would holding out for at least 6/7 million from a Saudi club.2 points

IDK…I personally think we punch ourselves in the cajones. We didn't move Kamara, Morelos, or Kent when we had the chance. We did turn Big Shirley and Aribo though. They tell me there is a system in place but the team screw it up.2 points

Swap small donner for Borna and that is about as good as it gets from what I’ve seen and read. The fact we’ve bought 9 players and only 5 get in the team perhaps suggests our summer recruitment isn’t quite as good as has been made out. And that defence hasn’t improved at all from what was our weak area last season.2 points

I agree Yuddie, it was all a bit powder puff from Genk. They may have has 14 shots on target, but truth be told, apart from the one goal from open play, which was a header on the line after the striker climbed on the defender, not many of the shots on target caused Servette much trouble. Genk did have most of the possession especially later stages of 2nd half and in ET, but were really ineffective with the possession they did have. A bit like us at times last season...🤫1 point

I see the man sent off is a forward, and I’m guessing he will now miss at least the first leg and maybe even both legs of our tie now as a result.1 point

I didn't see the first leg, but on tonight's showing, I think we would beat them without getting out of 2nd gear. Okay, they played the game with 10 men so probably not fair to judge, but i didn't see much quality on show from either team in my honest opinion.1 point

That's hilarious. It didn't seem that much of a battering watching it though. I'd love to see the xG for the two sides.1 point

Thanks for penalty updates @weebluedevil Better service than PQ! 😁👏1 point

We want Servette to go through after all the yards they've put in with 10 men.1 point

No, not much between them, considering it's 11 vs 10. I'd be very confident whoever we face.1 point

Our record against Swiss clubs isn't great.1 point

Who’s going to buy crocks/duffers? Rangers have done it often enough. There must be other reckless/desperate clubs somewhere.1 point

Half time 1-1 (2-2 agg.) Poor scrappy first half, didn't see much from either side that would concern us.1 point

That link doesn't work but the section on that page which is labeled 'RTS Livestreams' gives you options and you can go from sport to the Genk match, tuned in now.1 point

Sakala remains very much an asset to us, and he is not really worse than quite a few strikers w had in the past (pre-admin). We are in no hurry to sell him, 3 of our 5 current strikers have yet to show that they can do the job in Scotland, Roofe is Roofe and Sakala has hardly let us down that much. For some reason, though, when it comes to certain players, people seem to remember the misses more than the goals and vice versa. Since there's a heavy load of important games coming up, I would sure keep him.1 point
-
Your basing that on opinion of his football skills. Every player under contract is an asset and has sell on potential whether you rate them or not.1 point
-
It should be about the money. He is our asset (who is under contract), therefore we should be getting the highest price possible for him.1 point

Personal oppinion but I have no problem with Souttar long term assuming his injury issues were sorted1 point

That's exactly why I'm not confident we can move these guys on for a profit. But here's hoping things can change.1 point

Any takeaways? Suppose the headline stuff would be Goldson, Cifuentes imminent and, bizarrely, King being back in training?! I thought it would be easier to start a new topic because I wanted to post that tweet but wasn't sure on which thread. By the looks of it King will be back in a matter of weeks rather than months and if so, that does ease the pressure on trying to sign a LCB (we still need to). Thoughts? Did anyone go with their kids/grandkids? Or solo.1 point

Conflicting reports on another forum but as bounce game today was quite physical be no surprise with this guy.1 point

I was there with my grandson and in the SJ front which was pretty full. Great to see Goldson taking full part and in bounce game partnering Souttar in CB's. A great experience for the little one(7years old),who also in July took part in academy day on pitch in July. Richard Gough was interviewed as were youngsters Fraser and Lovelace,Broxi and family were there and in concourse face painting etc. took place1 point

I'd definitely prefer that. I was going with most likely, not what I'd like to see.1 point

I see Kent scored on his competitive debut for Fenerbache in 5-0 Europa Conference League romp. I also read that they might loan him out as they are buying more wide players. Not sure about the truth of the latter...I think it came from the Turkish equivalent of the Daily Record...1 point

Erratically? I am disinclined to give them the benefit of that doubt: I think they know, and have always known, the whither, and, of course, the why.1 point
