Not sure why we are getting so hung up on formations in here. The conventional wisdom these days is less about formations and more about attacking spaces - was it not Spaletti that coined this approach when he said that he isnt overly fussed on formations (aside from a base) and that the game had progressed and is more about being in the spaces before your opponent ? I am positive I saw an interview with a new signing (not sure if it was one of ours, or one of the big ones in the EPL) where they also said that the manager was more about spaces than formations. Formations are great, but they should never be rigid - obviously you arent going to play a 0-6-4 but you have a base formation around which everything can then become fluid. Asides, for the most part Beale has operated in similar fashion to Gerrard in that the front 5 or 6 are very fluid (which makes it difficult to defend) but whether thats a 3-3, a 2-3-1, a 3-1-2 it almost doesnt matter6 points

Guys, just came across this website, you can view full matches from way back and up to date. You have to sign up for it, free, takes seconds to do so. I have watched a couple of matches now, currently watching Rangers 1972 Cup Winners Cup final win. https://footballia.eu/?locale=en6 points

Newcastle look very sharp, we don't seem to be in any kind of formation! our players are all over the place.4 points

Tonight at the Stadium, we face our first home pre-season friendly against Newcastle United. How do you think we will perform? Generally, I am not a fan of pre-season friendlies. They are necessary, players must acquire both fitness and sharpness. We can kid ourselves the result does not matter but, a defeat, particularly a home defeat can have an impact upon supporter morale. I have seen Rangers play the Geordies on five occasions, two of those matches were competitive. Season 1968-69 ended with an Inter City Fairs Cup semi-final against the Magpies. We drew the first leg at Ibrox nil-nil, missing two penalties in the process. An attendance of nearly 80,000 knew we had missed an opportunity because we had dominated the game and, deserved a two to three goal victory. The return at St James was a 2-0 defeat, Scots internationalists Bobby Moncur and former Thistle left half, Tommy Gibb were outstanding. It was a shame, we had lost the Scottish Cup final a month before, to the Yahoos and, I have no doubt we could have easily replicated the Magpies 6-2 final win against Ujpesti Dozsa. Next up was Ally McCoist's testimonial, another capacity crowd watched as Newcastle deservedly won 2-1 at the Stadium. A pre-season friendly at St James followed, we lost 4-2, a decent result in the end given we were 3-0 down with 15 minutes to play. A 1-0 victory at Ibrox a decade-dozen years past followed(can any Gersnetter remember who scored our goal)? Suffice to say, our record against the Geordies is pretty poor. This evening's game is Greegs testimonial and, again a guaranteed full house, including some 8,000 traveling fans from Northumbria. Will it be a bottle of Newcastle Broon Ale from Rangers. A bit of froth which quickly dissipates into a flat chemical brew or will we sparkle like a hoppy rich Indian Pale Ale?4 points

Practically closed the José Cifuentes to Rangers of Scotland. The clubs have an agreement. Cifu will have its chance in European football, in a traditional club. It may be your gateway to a stronger league.3 points

Newcastle are a few short of full strength. Namely Pope (GK), Guimaraes (MF), Isak & St Maximin (F). They have paid £70 for Tonali who has strolled it. Unfortunately, we look 4th rate in comparison. Having said that, they already have 18 months of good coaching and their system is well embedded now under Howe. They have just got too much for us I'm afraid. Dowell looks good, Cantwell in flashes, Soutter best of our defence. Our midfield just not at it in this company.2 points

The big sports in the US run their own streaming services. MLB, NFL, NBA. Wouldn’t be surprised if UEFA / EPL / La Liga etc go down that road. Cut out the middle man save cash maximum profit.2 points

Totally fine snaps. If I make snaps from games like that, I can convince you that we actually play 2-1-5-2 for large parts of every game. That's not how we actually line up though.2 points

Here's hoping. There's a sense of relief that we've finally dismantled Gerrard's fairly worn out squad. I think we can start moving forwards again now.2 points

I've seen a few fans complain we are getting 500k for him and it should be more. He couldn't get a game for Aberdeen before he came to us.2 points

Agreed. Raskin looked like an absolute boss and I was hugely impressed with Hagi, who I worried might be lost to us but seems to have put his injuries behind him. I also wondered about Wright and assumed his Turkish trip was off. Tamundo seems to have no progress.1 point

Newcastle look quite slick. They know what they're trying to do, even without a few of their best players.1 point

When we have the ball it’s basically just a countdown to either losing it or a long chipped pass over the top to their defence.1 point

Our pressing is rubbish. And we can't pass through theirs.1 point

I can see that last screenshot being the way we play next season. Just replace Kent with Hagi or Dowell, or Cantwell, with Dowell playing where Cantwell is on that graphic. Up front it'll be two of Dessers, Danilo, Lammers, Sima, Sakala (if he stays).1 point

Kazakhstan is in UEFA. Therefore, if you are drawn against a team from, say, Almaty, the largest city, and former capital, you will be playing the away leg east of China's western border. Admittedly, Khazakhstan is large, and a fairly substantial part lies to the West of the Urals, which were always regarded as the approximate boundary between Europe and Asia, but really.....1 point

Good to see Bailey Rice involved, it would be a huge boost if he burst into the game this season coming.1 point
