  1. I'm not sure it's fair to say someone who got a serious injury is a dud. Kuznetsov, Rosenthal, Helander and even Roofe have been unfortunate, the former two had their careers completely derailed. No one thinks Michael Mols was a dud, but he was never the same player after his injury. For me a dud could be someone who simply wasn't up to the job despite the all realistic expectations. Basil Boli for example looked like a truly world class defender at Marseille but like a comedy act with us. Guivarc'h had won the World Cup but looked like he'd struggle in the Challenge Cup with us. Salenko had set goal scoring records in the World Cup but looked like he'd won a competition to play when he was with us. Even Maurice Edu, lionised for scoring a last minute winner against them from 2 feet out, never came close to living up to his price tag or expectations. But all of those players had to move country, learn a new language, or try and settle into a new culture. As supporters we probably under estimate how difficult some players find that and what affect it can have on them. The real duds are those who simply never tried. Kyle Lafferty, particularly second time round. A total waster who will no doubt spend years appearing at fan forums and pub openings in the future. Grezda, Pena and Negri fall into this category. Andy Webster is another, he didn't cost us a transfer fee however he was waste of a wage. Alan Gow is another who I always felt could have done so much more. Those who simply weren't good enough. Konterman, Sebo, Billy Urquart, Beattie, i'm not sure you can really blame them for that, the club needs to take the blame. They at least tried their best.

  4. If Hearts can sell the tickets to their own fans then no one can or should complain. Same goes for any club, including our own. Away fan can never be the priority.

  5. By the way, if we re-sign Leon Balogun all of the initial optimism and trust I have in Beale would be killed. Why on earth you can't trust Leon King as a backup, who has pace, instead of Balogun would blow my mind if explained in a manager interview. I'm praying that's it's some moron having a laugh spreading it than Beale actually trying to bring him in, criminal.

  6. That’s Uilleam for you. Ever the controversialist, always out on a limb. Have some public obloquy while you’re at it, pal.

  9. 32 goals from 30 games suggests Negri was a little more than "superb for a couple of weeks".

  10. For me, the surprising thing about that article is that Hearts have a "gentleman's agreement" with Hibs. Are there any gentlemen at Easter Road?

  11. One loan springs to mind….2 million fee and 90k per week for a handful of games and the penalty miss that cost us the EL.

  12. King really isn't that good at the moment. He'll hopefully turn into a good player but he's not there yet. Whether he's better than Balogun is definitely arguable. However given the injury to King, Goldson still isn't fit, Souttar is unreliable and Davies might be on his way, getting Balogun in as a quick backup isn't the daftest thing.

  13. So the rumours about Leon King have been confirmed and he is out for a "significant period of time". Might be some truth in the Balogun rumours after all.

  14. The 'social media' rumour stated Balogun was having a medical at Ross Hall (we now do our medicals in Manchester) and Balogun's social media has him in Austria with QPR. It also stated he was being offered a 1 year rolling contract, which I've never heard for a player before. Now there maybe something in these rumours, there might not be. As for it killing off optimism and trust, I think that's a bit over the top. All summer signings thus far have been sound signings and have 'excited' most fans I've spoken to. The resigning (or not) of LB shouldn't detract from the summer signings nor from Cantwell and Raskin. As for Leon King, he showed last season how far away he is from being capable of holding down a place in our squad. I hope King improves and proves to be a success at Rangers, but he's not ready just yet - a years loan wouldn't be a bad thing for him. EDIT - just heard a rumour that Kimg sustained an injury in training, hence the "interest" (rumoured or not) in LB. We'll know for sure sooner rather than later

  16. As a moderator perhaps you should be setting a better example. No need for the abuse, Craig. Besides you have jumped to conclusións that have no firm base to them. 1. I didn't express an opinión. Un 2. I didn't try to "belittle" you. I simply made a very gentle light hearted comment that had a real base to it (tabloids tend to exaggerate). 3. "The real world of football clubs" expression was simply referring to the real market place for footballers where numbers are much more relevant. In the case of Glen Kamara, at no time did any bids of eight figures ever came about. At the end of the day, a player is worth what clubs are prepared to pay is the phrase that you may be more familiar with.

  17. I'll risk opprobrium and abuse, here, but I'd argue that Brian Laudrup was value for money.

  18. I'm ready to take some flack for this take but I geniunely thought Ryan Kent had the talent to be a modern great for Rangers. I'm 26 and really started following the club during McLeish and in that time I'd still say he's one of the most talented we've had, we just haven't had players who could go to a place like Dortmund and skin a defence with Hummels and Akanji in it for 90 mins, certainly in the last 20 years. Fans will always hold the transfer fee against him which I don't agree with but can understand, but he definitely could have done more with the ability he had. Wanted to say this as a few fans think he was a waste of a shirt, although he definitely could've done a lot more with his ability.

  19. Wow. Apparent it reached 1.76 that year. Hard to believe it when you see the crumbs we are offered today.

  20. Ball was really disappointing, had a lot of injuries of course, Flo was pretty good although that price tag was just Murray's ego running away with him, and we did recoup about £7M of the £12M pricetag when we sold him. Hendry for £4M was awful business at his age (and the fact he was a big diddy) Pena - least said the better I agree Helander was poor value, only dwarfed by Roofe who I guess isnt on that list as he is still current, but this time next year will be on it and still look dreadful value for the minutes played.

  22. Flo at five or six million would have been great. Flo + Zola at eighteen million might have been worth it.

  23. A waster, who is one ex-player I can't be bothered with. After his injury in early Jan in his first season he managed a total of 2 goals (I believe) in his remaining 3 and a half years with the club, and a total of 3 appearances over his last 3 seasons with us.

  31. Absolutely, but Barisic running away from Salah letting him do whatever he wanted that night will enrage me for ever more. Yeah Salah is a good player but that’s no excuse for just standing off and letting him run away. There are too many examples of Barisic doing similar especially at Parkhead where he is prone to a vanishing act.

  32. And that, right there, is why it very much depends on the Manager/coach. Depends on what they want out of players. Beale may prefer someone who can overlap and cross as opposed to predominantly defend. Which is also why, in part, we get on the "FFS Tav" bus - is Tav a good defender ? Not particularly. But if the manager wants his attacking output and is prepared to accept his defensive frailties then we, as fans, have little option but to accept it, obviously. Lol. Are you seriously singling out Barisic for Liverpool at home ? You could run through pretty much the whole team that night.....

  33. Yilmaz had absolutely nothing to do with some of the downright disgraceful ‘performances’ Barisic put in last season. I genuinely couldn’t care less about his elite level crossing for SPL standards. Give me a Papac who can defend any day of the week. Our capitulations at Scumhut and home to Liverpool Barisic was his usual self. A decent cross v St Mirren changes nothing.
