We have to trust the manager. If Dessers helps us win the league, no-one will give a damn about his age, sell on potential or his fee.3 points

As much as we are rightly refreshing/rebooting our front line (Dessers, Lammars, Sima plus another) our biggest issue last season was goals conceded. It seems to be rather overlooked but we hit more goals last season than we did during our 55 season so we must be doing something right. If we can get the goals against column down substantially, we won't be far away IMO. I can't see us getting a striker that scores 25 plus but playing more with a system that allows 4/5 players getting into double figures.3 points

Found this. Fabrizio Romano @FabrizioRomano Calvin Bassey deal details: €22m fee guaranteed, €5m add-ons and sell on clause around 10% of future sale. Long term contract for Bassey, top signing confirmed. #Ajax3 points

It's a capital offence on here; we are all paid-up members of the grammar police.2 points

I know, but that doesn't suit my narrative.2 points

Don't worry bud, you are still close to the top of that particular leaderboard.....2 points

No need for me to post in the 'pet hate' thread now, you've just nailed it for me 😂.2 points

So it's just over £4m with a potential for over £5m for a 28 soon 29 year old. This boy needs to starting bagging sharpish or the usual naysayers will be out in force. I'll back him though, hopefully he's prolific for us. Positive signs from the new board which is good.1 point

Absolutely, they've a few Japanese players that are utter gash as well, but you don't hear about those....1 point

Fully agree, we need to halve our goals conceded or at least cut it down by a third. We've scored enough goals to win leagues for years now, it's the defending that's cost us. Strikers grab the headlines and the Football Twitter accounts by the balls though so people won't be arsed until we let a 2 goal lead slip against Motherwell at home in the run in.1 point

Any chance you could construct this part of your post properly ?1 point

You see what they tell you. For every Jota they have a Barkas, Ajeti, Duffy on high wages - don't be fooled that they always get it right because they don't.1 point

4lads is usually pretty concrete when he says it's done so it looks like he's coming in. We'll want 20+ a season from him for it to be worth it and/or trophies.1 point

Aahh maybe it's a generational thing? I did a bleep test every year from about 12/13-16. It was nowhere near that level but aye, it's tough. It might also be different in England to Scotland as well to be fair.1 point

If it's 10% of sale and not profit then we've pulled Ajax's pants down there. Looks like it will be about £1-1.5m if that's the case. So we could get £2.5m from Tillman and Bassey which is pretty shrewd, although I doubt it would be a lump sum this summer. If it is then great, we need more liquid.1 point

Back in the day, this was serious money though.1 point

Would much prefer Trusty. If the stats are to be believed, Panzo would be worse in the air than Davies. That doesn’t work in Scotland at centre back.1 point

Got around to watching the RTV training videos this morning and it's really putting me in the mood for the new season. Another 3-4 new arrivals (Dessers, Cifuentes, Danilo and a new centre half) with the same again to leave would be really good going. Positive to note that Goldson was back sans protective boot but appears that he and Ben Davies remain unavailable. With Souttar on an extended break after picking up a knock with Scotland then another centre half looks essential. Mayo and Sterling not ideal deputies in the short term. Also a pity not to see Roofe or Lawrence in full training but still time for them to join the main group over the next few weeks. Roofe's part in the squad will be an interesting one if he can regain fitness whilst it may be another month or two before Lawrence is fully ready. Other players with question marks over their Ibrox future will include McLaughlin, Barisic, Kamara, Hagi, Wright, Matondo and Colak. I don't think all of these lads will leave in this window but 3-4 will leaving us with a squad of ~28 with more fine tuning to be done in January. All things considered if we can add Panzo/Trusty, Cifuentes, Dessers and Danilo whilst moving on McLaughlin, Davies, Kamara, Wright and Colak/Roofe then I think we can consider it a positive window. No guarantees and a few question marks of course but I'd be fairly happy.1 point

That's literally quite shocking. What on earth was Gonzo thinking? Lapses like that can't just be literally swept under the carpet.1 point

'Would've' is a contraction of 'would have', not 'would of'. A lot. As well. Just thought I'd those in there too, for any confused parties.1 point

Just thought I'd post in here about the midfielders that are getting signed in the prem, the likes of Tonali and Szobozlai (might've butchered that) getting signed for 50/60m and Mac Allister for 35m whilst Declan rice is going for 100m+ with a year left...the English tax is hilarious. There's definite deals to be done in that area for clubs. Fulham and Brighton wanting 100m for Paulinha and Caicedo might not happen though haha. It will be interesting to see what Klopp does with his new midfield because he hasn't coached a good attacking midfielder since Kagawa? Or maybe Gotze? Either way it's been 10 years and if he turns them into water carriers it'll be criminal.1 point
