the 20% is only relevant if we make a profit on him. It's like moaning about spit or swallow. The upside is already there.5 points

Raskin could join this week, have a blinding next few months in our first team, so much so that someone offers us £5 million for him in the summer. Beale and Wilson would like geniuses then. I can understand the disquiet over buying someone who is 'free' in 6 months time, but a bird in the hand and all that, and I sincerely hope our players and management haven't given up on this league, far less the cups.5 points
-
I'd spend the money on him, personally I'm fed up of hearing fans say the league is gone, is it fuck. Even if we don't turn it round, we need to claw it back, even if Tenko only win it by a couple of points, we need to build for next season off the back of that, compete, leave a bit on them, and come back stronger.5 points

Leige couldn't get rid if he had signed a pre-contract with us. However, reading about it further, it appears to me that Raskin wasn't willing to sign a pre-contract. He wants to play over the next 4 months to allow him to keep his place in the u21 squad, so we had to sign him now or potentially lose him.4 points
-
The issue with Raskin it seems to me is that Standard Liege seem intent on getting rid of him this window... so if we want him, its a case of doing the deal now, or not at all.4 points
-
Plenty would disagree with that. 😀4 points

There's something strange about this. Why pay €2m for a player you can get for free in 5 months (effectively 4 months as we don't play in June)? Did he refuse to sign a pre-contract? He's obviously keen to come to us so I can't see it. I'm delighted we're getting him in now and don't have to wait, but I'd have thought Beale would prefer to have the €2m available to spend elsewhere and get the player a bit later.4 points

I'd imagine most people who regularly pay to watch Rangers would like to see performances improve and for us to win whatever silverware is still obtainable. We've been poor for months and new recruits have been needed.3 points
-
My thoughts exactly. The fact a bosman wasn’t signed prior to signing proves to me that he wasn’t interested in waiting till the summer.2 points
-
That is my understanding as well. He wasn't interested in pre contract deals but rather wanted a deal which would allow him to play now rather in the summer to benefit his International aspirations. Several German clubs were circling to offer PC deals when window closes. There was a risk we would lose him if we waited until the summer due to bigger clubs offering better terms financial terms. Now or never for sure!2 points
-
Aye but the board are bonkers and have just wasted our Summer transfer budget or something like that.2 points
-
He did not sign a pre contract. I believe it was a deal as he wanted to be playing and fit before the Euros. There were plenty of others after him if we didn't stump up. Basically now or never.2 points

I wish the so-called drummer would get a red card in the opening minutes of the next game and thereafter suspended sine die. It’s irritating enough on the telly. It must be murder for folk inside the ground.2 points

The negative is 2 mill Euros plus 20% sell on fee (allegedly) for a guy we could have for nothing in the summer. That money could be better spent elsewhere given the league is almost certainly over (anyone thinking that we beat Celtic twice and then they drop a further 4 points more than us in the remainder of the season is, IMHO, deluded). And a 20% sell on fee for a 21 yr old who we could have for free in the summer also doesnt really appeal. I understand why people want him in. I understand why people are prepared to pay the money being suggested. Doesnt mean it makes good business sense - and it doesnt make good business sense unless he wasnt going to sign a pre-contract, which it seems he was going to do anyway.2 points

Why let facts get in the way of moaning about the board or overspending though?2 points

We also get two benefits. we gat him now and bed him in and we don't get a player in the summer who hasn't played competitively in a year.2 points

I'm guessing we haven't just accepted their first offer which is why it's taken a while to resolve. Presumably Beale feels it's worth paying now to get the player in and established in the first team, so that's great. The board are backing him too. Not sure what the negative is, especially if he contributes in the league and cups?2 points

Looks like a first teamer recruited as Beale said he wanted. Forgetting the finance for a moment....looks like a player with the required level and age.2 points
-
I'd say we need midfield recruitments now. The team is jaded and we've got cups to win and yahoos to beat.2 points

Oh la la! Quelle chance! (Va te faire foutre, Napoli!) It's funny how there's always that one player that captures the imagination of the fans. Raskin seems to be him. I don't think he'll be that eye-catching; I think he'll be more of the quietly effective type.2 points

The signing of Cantwell and now Raskin seems to suggest that Jack, Arfield & Davis won’t be offered new deals at the end of the season1 point
-
Well it’s now officially Dyche in the Goodison hotseat eighteen games to get the club up the league should be interesting.1 point

We salute your concentrationability, ov. You’re probably right, though. There’s more going on in the ground to take your mind off it.1 point

I dont doubt the "other positives" but we need to be ran in a financially prudent manner. Depending on the fee and sell-on then sure - at the rumoured 2 mill Euros plus 20% sell-on, nah. Now, that said, if the player wasnt willing to sign a pre-contract and this was the only way of getting him then fine.1 point

Would you consider yourself, "a BRAZEN Rangers supporter"? I was leafing through today's newspapers this afternoon and I noticed a lurid Evening Times headline, 'Celtic fan lunged at Rangers fan with screwdriver in Glasgow'. I note no comments are allowed on the story and the reporting Journo is not named, the by line is, 'Court Reporter'. The first line of the report gives more information, "A Celtic fan lunged at a BRAZEN Rangers supporter with a screwdriver after a row following a Glasgow derby". Note the preferred language of, "Glasgow derby", much utilised by ra Sellik View. Given the above, I wondered as to the thrust of the report? Is thrusting a screwdriver at a BRAZEN Rangers more acceptable than doing so against a Rangers supporter? Would it not be more appropriate to describe the fan doing the lunging as being, bold and without shame? A couple of weeks past, the Evening Times announced it's newly appointed Editor was, Stacey Mullen. The Holyrood ghirl is no stranger to matters Rangers. Back a couple of decades ago when Stacey was an Undergraduate and known as, 'Showbiz Stacey'; she blamed a fracas in the Students Union upon a grouping of unwanted H-u-ns. Stacey's social media history was littered with usage of the H term. She apologised, let her hair return to it's natural colour and, attempted to lose weight. Now, Stacey is big mates with Angela Haggerty, Jane Hamilton, Kevin McKenna, ..... etc. Like all mentioned, Stacey is a beneficiary of a second chance, she continues to hate, just a lot more carefully than she used to. Stacey extended this gift to Gabriel McKay - you may remember this time last year, the Daily Record did a front page expose of the Heart and Hand podcast fronted by David Edgar? Heart and Hand came back stunningly with their own expose of the Daily Record, particularly Mark McGivern and Gabriel McKay. McGivern left the blatt and McKay entered anti-sectarian training. Both Mark and Gabriel had a social history full of the H term and Gaby had a Tweet from the opening of the Commonwealth Games at Sellik Park by the then Monarch with the question, "where's the IRA when you need them"? The Daily Record quietly let Gaby leave and the new Editor of the Evening Times hired her fellow Sellik supporter. How did brazen Showbiz Stacey and brazen Gaby do it? We should be told.1 point

I watched the presser and it sounds like Raskin is the only iron in the fire at the moment. He did say anything can happen but I think we will go as is unless a major player leaves. Expect Sands to go back to New York.1 point

Spot on Gonzo, similarly folk moaning about a speculated transfer fee, when the real fee is an unknown as yet.1 point

Enough of the comedy, this thread is serious business.1 point

I don't know a single Rangers fan who thinks we've been playing well this season. Surely we all want to win the cups!?1 point

I went inside both the retail shop/cafe from one queue and then the fanzone in the other. Both are lovely and should be a good addition for fans who turn up early for games. Going into the shop/cafe, you enter the ground floor where it is all retail dotted about, but you can go upstairs where there is even more retail covering about half the upstairs space, with a small corner showing some stuff showcasing the upcoming museum, and a cafe with some seating areas surrounding it. A DJ is playing non-Rangers music, didnt quite see the point of that. Either Rangers songs with the DJ or just background music that could be played from recordings, no need for a DJ in my opinion but it was a good space. Concrete floors could do with a carpet or better flooring, perhaps that is still to come and they didnt quite have time for it in their rush to get open. I then left there and joined the bigger queue to get into the fanzone around 2.15pm yesterday. My mate had been in for about 30 minutes by this time and heard interviews with Helander, Matondo & Henderson as well as Jane Ross. Standing room only, with some high tables dotted about and a bar at either end, one a full bar and one just for pints. £4.95 a pint and cashless. It all comes to a halt about 2.30 when the bar shuts. All in all I really enjoyed the experience and will definitely make this part of my pre-game routine, much better than sitting in the bookies!1 point

I don't think it's the injury - maybe. It's just the difference in style of play from GvB to MB.1 point

Not a penalty the ball deflected off our player on to the opposition players arm. Our officials are dreadful.1 point
