we are on a financial fair play watch list. worth remembering that.4 points

As a kid, every Wednesday, I would nip down to Haymarket station to buy the Rangers News. Only place in Edinburgh that I knew that sold it at the time (perhaps Waverly as well). Anyway, a lot was made of dress standards (still is / RTV / recent Dubai Suits) and the lack of facial hair on players. I lapped it up and joined in, marching South to join the Marines. In retrospect, those standards would have been better employed in other areas of professionalism within the playing staff. Our European record is where it really tended to show up. We had ability but too often it was the stronger, bigger and faster line that would come to mind over another Autumnal elimination. Perhaps if Ferguson had taken over from Jock Wallace, it may have been different......majorly off topic now ! It is what is in Todd's heid that is important, not what is on top of it.4 points

Morelos to Inter isn't as ridiculous as it first sounds. Italian club football isn't at the standard it once was, you could argue it's only the fifth strongest league in Europe now. Plus in recent years Scottish players have done relatively well in Serie A. Aaron Hickey and Liam Henderson both settled quickly and did well there, now Josh Doig and Lewis Ferguson have continued that trend. A fit, focussed Morelos would do well in that league and for a relatively small outlay he must be on a few Italian sides radar.4 points

I doubt these shareholders will take us to the promised land of domestic dominance and financial security but they probably will keep our head above water. The major investment required to go beyond survival will mean new shareholders and all the risk that comes with them. I imagine the current owners are busy trying to find our saviours and their exit route. Whatever happens I think the current board have done a very good and desperately needed job, albeit with some frustration for an impatient support.3 points

I’ve had a look at their coefficient performance. They are in 4th, well clear of France and with no signs of that changing. Germany have a good lead over them but they’ve been neck and neck the past few seasons (presumably with Dortmund falling away). On another note, the Serie A is one of the most entertaintaining leagues in Europe in terms of unpredictability. Most others are dominated by a small number of teams.3 points

Agreed, Fit and Focused....... what percentage of the time have we we had Morelos fit and focused or can actually be bothered ? He has shown over a long period of time to be a poor and selfish professional with positive bursts. An Italian side, maybe but not at the level of Inter Milan unless they have major financial issues and are majorly downsizing. More likely a Verona or Bologna, who seem to have been watching the SPFL.3 points

A last word on the boy's hair. Not so much long as luxuriant. More Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen than a young Francis Rossi. But I won't hold that against him.3 points

Hibs have agreed, or are seriously considering, a £2.3m bid from Millwall for Kevin Nisbet. I feel like that bid from us wouldn't get accepted.3 points

No thanks. I'd far rather Rangers were ran properly, with some level of fan involvement than become yet another plaything, a soulless shell of a club, like some of those in the EPL.2 points

Yeah but ultimately we have to be self sustainable anyway. The director loans need to stop. We need to focus on Europe progress and player trading to balance the books and fund anything. I dont think this watch list is a concern given our recent accounts trajectory.2 points

As far as I can see we're still on the watch list, along with 17 other clubs. But our presence is very largely due to historical low incomes during the early years of the assessment period - and therefore rather artificial.2 points

The usual leaks at the time to explain things that went on. seemed true enough but who knows. we do know that both Morelos and Kent have sell on clauses and pretty steep ones. I am just pointing out that we may be playing the long game here to our benefit. We may still be making a total arse of it of course. My guess is Kent will do this and Morelos will be away next week.2 points

Back to topic Thistle game is Sunday 12th Feb ko 16.00 on Viaplay,so yet again we are given a crap Sunday date.2 points

we had 2 choices once he was staying. Extend his contract and pay a million to Brighton. Let it expire and re sign him. we did that and he got a pay rise and we were no worse off.2 points

Their fans would lose the plot if they agreed to anything under £4m with us. The Rangers surcharge.2 points

I have just received an e-mail from the Club informing me the Edmiston Club will open on Saturday for the St Johnstone game. I attended the AGM six weeks past and we were informed Edmiston House would be open in January. Looking at the state of the build back at the start of December, I had doubts. Apparently, the Fanzone, Cafe and, Club Shop will be open.1 point

Indeed. It makes a complete mockery of ffp when a business that a club owner has can inject a massive amount of capital via something innocuous like stadium naming rights or a random crypto partnership like Mbappe mysteriously got around the same time he signed his new psg deal. As with everything it’s one rule for the haves and another for the have nots.1 point

You may well be right. It's hard to see the attraction for the mega rich, in which case we are where we are and here's where we stay.1 point

When it comes to the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, the similarities between the Catholic Church, the Scottish Government and Celtic Football Club is overwhelming. The same poisonous perversion seems to thread through all of them.1 point

Yes due to board support during covid. This has passed and we should be fine moving forward. Especially as we have sold 45 millions worth of players and managers since then. Happy to be corrected if that’s wrong.1 point

FFP assessment is made over a rolling number of years (is it 5 years?) but I'd like to know when the FFP year ends in comparison to the payout of UEFA monies.1 point

We were supposed to have 2 or 3 players in the starting line-up this Saturday. Given we are now at Thursday and only signed one of our managers targets, while leaks of continual under-bidding for other players the manager wants in, and our team badly needs in, are abound with no conclusion, and nobody of any note leaving the club either to provide the spaces and finances, just WTF is our so beloved DoF doing? 5 days left now? To me it now doesnt matter if we now signs Messi & Ronaldo, this DoF (or Chairman if rumours of his refusal to spend are true) has got to go. Shambolic window yet again, scrabbling about in the last few days when the manager has been on record for about 3 weeks now that his work in identifying and speaking to targets was done. If we were playing well with a fully fit squad I would understand it, but the only saving grace is that we have been winning while running on empty.1 point

It's what we did with Goldson. we had to pay a million quid if we extended his contract. Essentially we split it with him and retained the player.1 point

I saw this thread on Twitter. Basically we have the worst goalkeeping performance in the league, which isn’t much of a surprise. But I was shocked that have faced less xG than Celtic. The area Celtic are massively outperforming us is chance creation and/or forward quality. Their xG is far higher than ours, which again is not surprising at all. They are also far more clinical with their chances. For the first time I remember we are actually 3 goals ahead of our xG, but I’ve had a look at our stats and of course it is purely down to Colak, who is miles ahead of his xG. Morelos is par for the course as usual. Arfield the only other player scoring significantly more than he should for the chances he gets (Celtic have 6 players doing that).1 point

Just went on to buy my cup final ticket, under 2 minutes later it’s all done. Easy peasy! The whole process is dreadfully laid out with so many layers that surely could be done so much better but once you’ve negotiated it a few times it gets easier. I do always leave it for several hours after the emails are out until it quietens down a bit though. I do find it nonsensical that there is a button for the site to remember my card details which I tick every time and still need to enter my card details every time. It does need (another) complete overhaul, I wonder how much we paid whatever incompetent organisation created that system, and we really need to rip it up and start again.1 point

Yeah, I thought that might be what you were getting at mate. That being the case it is actually really sensible (IMO) to do it this way - the players can, in essence, get an extra 10k per week if they let their contract run out, save the club 2 mill in sell on fees, and sign a 4 yr deal. Makes sense to me. The obvious issue is that there are no guarantees they will sign on1 point

What makes you think Morelos is worth a new deal ? How many times does he need to show what he is for it to register that we would be better rid of him ? We need players we can depend on1 point

From the resumption, season 1947/47 up to 1964/65 Rangers were ten times champions, Hibs thrice, Hearts twice (should have been three) Aberdeen, Dundee, Kilmarnock and another team all had one championship. The same teams occupied the runners-up spots if they weren’t winning. Some third places are interesting. East Fife and Jags twice each, Motherwell, Third Lanark and Dunfermline all once. We all know what happened after that. As buster says, Aberdeen had a brief flurry and United managed it once. So, yes, Rangers are one of the two pikes in a pond of minnows, so, mighty to that extent though not able to compete with ocean-going sharks. A warning well given.1 point

Long hair is wrong and tattoos are distasteful? You pair must be cracking on a night oot!. Came out of work yesterday to 4 unread pages on the transfer thread, ya dancer thought I, surely Raskin has signed?. Nope, long hair and auld wingers it was. 😔🤣1 point

Very articulate confident young man for a hand wringer. Although I'm appalled he was so negligent in the removal of facial hair. The lack of short back and sides for his first press appearance is also unforgivable! Brylcream & Old Spice sponsorship deals may now be in jeopardy? I have on good authority however, that Todd was wearing a pair of Alfie Conn's Stylo Matchmakers.1 point
