Uh oh. We are back in "Kent did nothing" territory are we ? Kent was one of our 2 or 3 best performers yesterday - indeed, he had a very valid shout for Man of the Match. He was constantly at it, looking to cause them problems, use his pace, be direct. McCrorie struggled to handle him for most of the game yesterday. "If he plays as an attacker he has to contribute" - he does, you just either don't, or refuse, to see it. At one point yesterday he nutmegged McCrorie, continued his run and then had Kennedy on him as quick as a flash. Contributions are as much these days about OFF the ball as they are about ON the ball - and Ryan Kent does an inordinate amount of unselfish running off the ball. With his runs, often to not receive the ball, he is pulling players away from spaces for others to exploit. Kent is very, very good at this and opponents fear him so it creates much space for others. You talk about direct involvement in goals... but that doesnt tell a full story. Kent may never get a touch on a ball and, ergo, isnt directly involved in a goal.... but his unselfish running down the line, offering himself up even as a decoy and pulling players away to create space for others very much is an involvement in a goal. Kent is more often than not at least double marked and this, in itself, is involvement because it means there is space for others elsewhere to exploit. The fact they don't exploit it often enough isnt Kent's fault. But Kent had a very good game yesterday.5 points

Beale has given / trusted Kent to play with more freedom and he is looking far more dangerous in the "free" role. Even when not at his best, his work rate could never be questioned. He gives 100% everytime he plays.4 points

Well said Craig. There have been occasions when Ryan Kent had a poor game. Yesterday definitely wasn't one of them. I'd also suggest since Beale came back, Kent has been our most consistently productive forward.4 points

Kent played well yesterday. Any opinion to the contrary is absurd.4 points

Glad to see Ryan Jack starting to show up well in games with his general and match fitness improving with more minutes. Lundstram was below average at times yesterday whilst Kamara was again very poor. We knew central midfield was a priority so hoping see reinforcements imminently. Struggling to explain what has happened to Kamara. Post Euro 2020(21) he has gradually regressed and is a pale shadow of the player we seen during the 55 season. Not alone in that obviously but his worsening contribution a real puzzle. Has gone from Mr Reliable to a liability. All things considered, progress has been reasonable under Beale over the last six weeks and more injured players returning will help too. However, it remains obvious we lack quality in the squad so new signings essential asap. As is removing the 'anxiety' which remains an issue and really needs to be addressed. This Rangers team are frustrating in that for periods you can see real quality in our play but we remain vulnerable on the transition which is an issue when we often give up possession far too cheaply. Various players coughed up the ball too easily yesterday, a few knocked five yard passes directly out of play and I thought our defensive clearances/headers were laughable at times which happens far too often. We deserved to win yesterday but it's clear much improvement is required.4 points

McLaughlin is better, IMO. I would still prefer McLaughlin to McGregor. A sweeper-keeper is just someone who can burst off his line. There are many 'keepers that can do that. Of course, we can't afford to sign Allison; our choice will have flaws. I've always argued that a sweeper-keeper would benefit this team greatly. I would love to see McCrorie get a chance.4 points
-
Perhaps, but many (including me) went on about McLaughlin being so much better than McGregor with his feet. But we shut up when he had a brain fart at the Brendanbeu. We can't afford a top goalkeeper. Whoever it is will have his faults. We'd be as well trying to develop McCrorie.4 points

A sweeper-keeper would have dealt with both of their "goals", IMO.4 points

I thought Kent had a good game yesterday. Yes, his decision making in the final third wasn't always great but he was a constant threat.3 points

McGregor barely moved for their two goals. We should play McLaughlin until we can get someone better in.3 points

If it wasn't against Rangers the pricing would be far lower. Not saying they'd "sell out" but would have sold more than 300. St Johnstone and Rangers really ripping the arse out of the cost for tickets (sure both jave to agree on the pricing).2 points

In seasons past we were linked with and brought in some big names Gaza ,Hateley , Laudrup now it’s Morgan Whittaker sounds like a solicitor’s name.2 points

If this is the Ryan Kent we are going to see under Beale then we need to extend his contract pronto.2 points

Kent and Jack were our best performers. I'd give it to Kent who seemed most likely to create whenever he had the ball and our only player that seemed to cause panic in their team. He worked tirelessly throughout the 120 minutes.2 points

and he played a cute pass in leading up to our first goal. I think DB and others watched a different Ryan Kent.2 points

When you look at the team in the stark light of day it's hard to see who isn't replaceable at the moment, maybe the central defence pairing, Sakala and Tillman? Our past best players are now in decline, for example Jack, Tav, Morelos, honestly we've held on to some for too long and we are paying the price for that. Even players that have plenty of skill seem to have really dipped recently, Kent being an example. I wonder if we held out for too much money for players like Kamara, Morelos and the like. Even Tav, I love the guy, but the more forward looking option would have been to try and move him on and hold on to Patterson. Of course, there are so many caveats there, teams may have had no interest in Tav. Still though, it's left us where we are now, not enough of the team have been turned over in the last few windows.2 points

Barisic is a bit like Morelos in that no matter how well he's been playing, you know there's going to be a costly error or a period of below-par performances just around the corner. I'd still like to see us start next season with two new fullbacks. Why do we seem to have such indecision in our back line whenever the ball comes in to our box? Every single game we end up with a few scrappy games of pinball in our box where the ball could end up anywhere. Re Barisic and/or McGregor, round about the 15th minute, a ball came back to Barisic's area and the pass to make 99 times out of 100 was to play it back to McGregor which he chose not to do and instead tried to play a long ball forward. I just thought that was a bit telling of where we are at the moment.2 points

Both were at fault for the Aberdeen goal. Very poor defending.2 points

I had an exceptionally good view from my seat in the North stand. Kent punched him in the face to assert dominance over him. Scales was greeting afterwards.2 points

Gunners’ barrage continues. 2-0 win away to the Hotspur. Newcastle third place 1-0 Fulham. Long way to go but Arsenal, Newcastle first and second at the end would be refreshing.2 points

I have sat for a couple of hours contemplating whether I should make this post and, what forum would be most appropriate. I decided I would submit the article because genuinely, I would like to know the answer. Further, since most Gersnetters will be familiar with the names and, their continuing actions against Rangers and Rangers supporters; Rangers Chat is suitable. Today in the Herald, Kevin McKenna utilises his weekly column to lionise the Parish Priest of the Immaculate Conception church in Maryhill, Glasgow. Father James Lawlor has bucked the trend of falling congregation numbers by standing up alongside some of his parishioners who are fighting the Home Office's attempts to deport their families. Certainly, it is a story worth telling. Kevin has been prominent in both the written and broadcast press in Scotland these last 35 years. The Priest's name also rang a bell? Kevin McKenna was Editor of ra Sellik View back in the years straddling the late 80s - early 90s. He widened the blatt's remit including political and social aspects. A German TV crew came to Glasgow to talk matters, 'Old Firm'. They invited a dozen or so interested parties from both sides of the divide to attend a social evening in a club off Royal Exchange Square. Apparently, Kevin trapped late in a tired and emotional state. There is no apparent about the next part, he was recorded saying such niceties as, "the IRA bombing of the Enniskillen Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday was a legitimate act of war" and, "protestants breed like rabbits". Kevin's slurred outpourings appeared on the front page of the Sun and he was allowed to resign his Editorship by Sellik. Twelve civilians died in the blast, another 63 were injured at Enniskillen Cenotaph on November 8th, 1987. A 40 pound bomb inside a grip bad was laid against the gable wall of the town's reading rooms, immediately adjacent to the memorial. When detonated, stone and masonry showered the waiting crowd. The ensuing scenes of folks clawing at the rubble and debris were truly heartbreaking. A couple of years after resignation, Kevin resurfaced at Scotland on Sunday. He went on to be Sports Editor and brought in Graham Spiers and Kevin McCarra. One was a real talent, the other a Useful Idiot. It was the up and up for Kevin, he went on to the Herald as part of the triumvirate of Mark Douglas-Home and Joan McAlpine, then the Observer, ................. Herald Columnist. His caring wing for aspiring Journos of the right character continues; he is Godfather to Angela Haggerty's son. Kevin has traveled a most successful road since his days at Glasgow Uni' organising and playing for his second favourite team, 'the Vatican Strollers'. Father Jim Lawlor began his journey thirty-odd years past at Our Lady of Fatima in Dalmarnock, Glasgow. Half a mile from Sellik park and his life was a misery. The church was regularly vandalised and he was threatened. The Police advised he should remove his clerical collar whilst moving around his parish. Father Jim had an outlet for his frustrations, ra Sellik View provided the necessary. Dalmarnock was under heavy reconstruction and declining population lead to the closure of Father Jim's church. The preparation for the Commonwealth Games was not all bad, ra Sellik were beneficiaries of Glasgow District Council selling off Dalriada Street, Kinloch Street and, Janefield Street to the club, for a Penny(one pence). Father Jim reappeared in Penilee at Our Lady and St George. Like Kevin, he made the front page of the Sun. Two elderly female parishioners let themselves into the church of a Sunday evening, with the intention of cleaning. They found Father Jim, naked from the waist down atop the altar, bouncing on a vibrating dildo. Father Jim resigned and retreated to a Retreat for contemplation and prayer. The Police submitted a report to the PF and it quietly submerged. Now, Father James has reversed the half century trend of declining congregations. As stated, a story worth telling and the usual suspect, Jum Spence is re-Tweeting the miracle. I know, I know, it is that old thing about message and messenger(s); but I do not want to evoke the word, 'shoot'. Unless, someone wants to do the natural whilst pointing a camera at all concerned. While they are at it, tell me how do they do it? Currently, we have a similar situation with Kyle Lafferty and Martin Compston. At best, Kyle could be described as a Clown. Whether it is teenagers at a service station throwing stones which he threw back or, uttering sectarian remarks to a chap requesting a selfie? Beeb Scotland wanted Kyle done and the story was kept alive by the likes of RAB Cosgrove regularly demanding to know, what the football authorities were doing? Actually, not nearly as many times as he told us(the listeners) how big(BIG) a friend, 'BIG KEV' is to the show'; "oh aye, big Kevin is a regular listener to the show". It is like Gerry Braiden, Irvine welsh, Jum, Angela, ...... etc - big listener means big contributor by proxy. Lafferty has just finished a ten game ban, he has lost both appearance and bonus monies. If that is the way to go, what has happened to Martin Compston? Did RAB or any of those others mentioned demand action be taken after Martin conducted the balaclava choir in Las Vegas at ra Sellik convention? This month alone, Martin has appeared on BBC Scotland in Mayflies, Travels Across Scotland and, Rig. I will ask again, how do they do it?1 point

Reality is that we need to sign young players with potential or rough diamonds, train them up and move them on. We haven't done that with much of the team that's let us stagnate. Whittaker may not improve the first team straight away, but looking to the future he may well be worth the effort. We need to keep up the turnover of squad, polishing the rough and selling on for profit.1 point

Was i alone in screaming at Wright, rather than take the ball to the corner flag with 30secs to go, decided it was best to try and cut inside and lose the ball?1 point

I thought it was a good game. Not a classic and not always comfortable but a well-contested semi-final. Games like this, especially semi-finals are seldom easy affairs and I think we did well to win it. I think as a priority we need changes at fullback, on both sides of the pitch. I'm all for using fullbacks to attack but if they can't defend as a bare minimum then they will always cost us. Barisic has always blown hot and cold but his defensive instincts are virtually non-existent. Tavernier just looks finished and there were times when he looked truly awful today ... something unfathomable when you consider the heights he was reaching on the way to Seville.1 point

Also worth mentioning the pitch - an absolute disgrace for a "showpiece" semi-final. I've never been a fan of Hampden since it's been "renovated". It also one of the worst grounds in Scotland to get in and out off.1 point
