  1. A hat-trick for the Colts in dreadful conditions last night won't have done his case any harm.

  2. I've just realised that Lowry wasn't even on the bench at the weekend. I'm annoyed that he's not getting more minutes.

  3. But the manager will always have the last say on who we take the gamble on. Bassey is a great example - written of at LCFC and written off by many at Rangers early in his career. However no doubting Basseys hunger and desire and IMO that was driven as much by SG and MB as it was by Bassey himself. That's why I liked Beales comments about wanting to look players in the eye before signing them. Let's face it, if Cantwell and Davies development had gone to plan, we wouldn't be able to buy them - Liverpool were rumoured to be willing to pay £20M for Cantwell. We need to trust in MBs ability to indetify "hidden gems" and turn them into players. I willing to give Beale (as well as Cantwell and Davies if they sign) the benefit of doubt (let's face it, Beale hasn't even had 2 weeks of 1 window and some are writing him and the aforementioned players off).

  7. My recollection was that Windass shone too bright; it was too much for those around him. “The flame that burns Twice as bright burns half as long.”

  8. Sure he picked up a knock and missed Sundays game. Played last night along with Devine and King to get minutes.

  9. The way it should be IMO. - the club (any club) obviously have to hope that they have the right manager in. - given average player contract length and average manager longevity it comes with obvious danger - At Rangers there is huge pressure on results so most managers won't side with youth development, even though they may initially talk about it. Some fans want it both ways but until we produce top class players or have no money, it will play a secondary role. When we produce top class youngsters, they are poached....just as we poach from the rungs below us. I agree, Bassey is a great example but those stars will probably align once in a while. I don't think there is any doubt that it was his physique aligned to attitude that were the main drivers. We provided the coaching and opportunity. Patterson was also a big and powerful lad who had real belief. Size and power seem to matter. Beale talks a good game and that has had a positive effect on our determination to eek out results, often in the second half of games. However, I wouldn't put much weight on soundbites in press conferences (he was big on loyalty at QPR, until he wasn't). The proof will simply be in the pudding and that will come soon enough. Fingers crossed because we don't need more non-producing large salaries, eg. Matondo.

  10. Zambia is by far not one of the African countries renowned for top-notch players. We got one of their best ... but compared to the top guys from Senegal or Nigeria ... So I for one do not expect Sakala to be the ultimate or unfailing attacker. Since Beale took over though, a comparison in countable stats (icehockey-style) of our two wing-attackers: Rangers vs Hibernian - 1-0 ... Sakala (Kent) Aberdeen - Rangers - 0-1 ... Sakala (Morelos, Jack), 2-2 Arfield (Kent) Ross County - Rangers 0-1 ... Lundstram (Sakala) Rangers - Motherwell 3-0 Rangers - Celtic 2-2 ... 1-1 Kent (Sakala), 2-1 Tavernier (Sakala) Dundee Utd - Rangers 0-2 ... 0-1 Sakala (Jack, Barisic), 0-2 Tillman (Sakala, Tavernier) If it goes on like that, our right attacking slot is sorted.

  11. Potentially, yes. I would argue the Bassey and Aribo signings were more of a gamble. Cantwell and Davies play/have played at a higher level than Bassey or Aribo: Bassey was released by Leicester's Academy, and Aribo was playing in League One. These guys are 24. Get them back to somewhere near their best within a year or two and we're making £10-15m on the gamble, if it works out. If they don't work, I think they are still of a decent quality right now.

  12. How can the Police determine who we allow into our stadium the night before a game? Why haven't our board communicated the reasoning behind this decision and why they believe a UB TIFO would be a "public safety issue" or whatever reason Polis Alba have given? More spinelessness from our board - they really don't give a feck about us (as shown by the "access and exit" procedures for tomorrow's game). I also note Celtic fans will be able to access and exit the stadium as they please. No getting them into the ground 1hr prior to kick off and no holding them after the final whistle. Treated better by Rangers and Polis Alba than Rangers fans.
