  1. I really believe the reason for the lack of atmosphere is directly related to the fact that our stadium has been almost entirely season tickets only for the best part of 30-35 years now, and also to the stadium changing to all-seater. My earliest years (mid-late 80's) of going to Ibrox the atmosphere was generated because you stood with your mates, in groups straight off buses so you knew everyone around you and the atmosphere was just a continuation of the singing etc on the bus to the game. Nowadays most groups of guys are all over the stadium in separate ones and twos. The advent of all-seater stadiums, taken together with all season-tickets, and it has to be said, the more family-friendly stadium it is now with many more women and children going to games takes away from the general average game atmosphere. You could also add the cost of the football now means it is no longer the working mans game, so the demographic of those going has also changed over time, bringing with it more spectators than fans. As it is I dont hark back to the days (not even sure they existed) where every game had a good atmosphere no matter the football on show. The special atmosphere that is still created at Ibrox for big games or for magical performances is nothing to do with banging a drum and waving flags. It is when the full crowd rise to appreciate a special effort or occasion. That will do for me. If the team are playing well and entertaining the fans, the fans will always react and the atmosphere improves. On big games, the fans try to give the players a head start by generating the atmosphere in advance of kick off, but that will only be sustained if the team players their part on the field. No amount of drums, flags and silly songs from the UB will change that.

  2. Dunno about that, I'd say last seasons run in the EL saw the best atmosphere I've ever seen at Ibrox, on more than one occasion.

  3. Well if those are the level of our targets, domestic domination and European progression are definitely within out grasp......

  7. I hate those bloody drums. Even moved to the other side of the main stand to get away from them. Us in the old fart loyal didn't need drums in our day.

  8. Noise, enthusiasm, applause, positive reaction to positive performance. But not fukking drums. How about you?

  9. In all my time as a Rangers fan I have heard this saying for Old Firm matches! I've never been convinced with that saying, no doubt the stat men will come on proving me wrong. This season has been horrible to watch/witness. Since the appointment of Michael Beale he has had four wins and we have improved from previous to his appointment, however this team still looks way short in the quality we all know they can perform at. We have had a terrible run of injuries to contend with for sure but we are getting players back fit which should improve our performances?. Our next match is the Old Firm on Monday and personally I am dreading it, our winning run under Beale looks good on paper but we can all see the team still isn't firing on all cylinders and in my opinion are not up for the title challenge. This all could change if we were to win on Monday! ''form goes out the window'', but I can't see how/where we are going to get to the level required to win this one?. Sorry for the doom & gloom post but I'm only being honest!. Mon the Rangers.

  10. We'll certainly get an idea of what the new manager has or hasn't been able to get accross to this group of players on Monday. Thus far, I haven't seen much different when it comes to playing football but there has been some added determination to eek out a positive result. It will be about mentality when the whistle blows to KO on Monday. I can see us starting hard and high and we could really do with taking the lead before the tide turns. Situation with our centre forwards is a real negative as we could do with at least one who was properly fit and firing. Morelos looked a little more interested against Motherwell, but still isn't very mobile. There is an over confidence in their fans about Monday. With the favourites tag and press coverage reflecting that, it may spill into their camp. We need to get into their faces, bite first, spook them and not let go. The obvious blueprint being 29/12/2018 1-0 game (Ryan Jack winner). Half our current team that will start on Monday started in 2018, in what was our first win in 90 minutes against Celtic in over 6 years. Difficult ask, but by no means impossible. edit Regards the "form goes out of the window" line. Most of the time form dictates the outcome, but not always. Many pointing to shared spoils but not many draws between the teams at Ibrox in the league. Walter Smith was in the dug-out when it last happened (April 2011), with Allan McGregor playing an important part in that. That said, privately, I think both managers would accept a draw. But both will be going for the win, at least at the outset. A game to make sure you are there sat down and ready as the teams KO.

  11. At the game on Wednesday night I thought that the starting XI might well be the one that starts on Monday. That starting XI could get something from the game However when comparing our likely bench to their bench you can see where a lot of our current problems lie. They can make changes & not weaken their XI on the park. Not sure we can. Back to poor recruitment unfortunately

  12. I'm hoping Beale operates in the same manner as Gerrard did, ie the press are the last to have any info on who we're after.

  16. As someone said the players don't read these forums, thank fcuk, as all the foregoing will have them queuing up at the Erskine bridge.

  17. Walter Smith at his best. Sickness ravaged squad and some how pieced together a team to beat them.

  20. The motivation is loyalty and above all ... hope. Hope that the team will produce a performance worth getting excited about. Whether anyone like it or not, crowds react, they don't take the lead. If the team serves up mind numbing crap, the crowd will respond accordingly. If the team wants backing from the crowd, they have it in their own gift to generate it. In general, the atmosphere at Ibrox is only a reflection of what's happening on the park.

  21. Some Rangers fans have short memories (or define "last good while"). Guys confidence is rock bottom and its gonna stay there as long as we continue to ridicule him. Played in Germany and Belgium so he obviously has something to offer. We had a discussion on way through to game on our RSC regarding how we continuely talk our players down whilst the talk theirs up (no matter how bad they are).

  22. We've no idea about stuff like that though, you can't just sell a player, nor can you make them sign a contract. If a player wants to sit tight and not sign a contract, whether it be to get a big signing on fee elsewhere, or to see if a new manager cones in, in reality there's fuck all a DoF can do.

  23. The partnership with Goldson & Davies certainly looks more assured. 2 experienced pros both comfortable in the position, amazing what a difference that can make compared to what we’ve been watching in their absence.

  24. Unless we know he's not going to sign a new contract, £5m for Kent would be a terrible bit of business
