As much as their have been very obvious flaws in Beales first 2 games, I'm delighted at the outcomes of both. Makeshift defence, some players just back, a right back at left back, only a few weeks of his influence, and 2 opponentss who treat our games as a cup final. He'll have learnt a lot more about his players than he would pumping the likes of Killie or County. I'd rather his reign started slowly, as it indicates that there's a lot more to come, rather than a more simplistic motivational bounce, which rarely lasts.

His post match reactions after both results should furnish you with the answer. Loses against his first love and the club he started his career with and he shrugs his shoulders, loses against us and it's like his world just collapsed.

MB will be helped as players return from injury. I thought we looked better in the last half hour on Tuesday night with our two first choice CB’s playing. Could only be Arfield. Agreed that Kent and Goldson made an effort, likewise Sakala. I didn't think Tillman was bad, the rest were pretty ineffectual. I don't get the plaudits for Devine myself but I do hope he's one for the future.

This is the bottom line. As a professional sportsman or woman, your income depends on how many people want to watch. It may well be just as hard work to be a top (field) hockey player as a top footballer, but you don't get paid as much because of the lower gates and viewing figures. It may well be just as hard work to be a top badminton player as a top tennis player, but you don't get paid as much because of the lower gates and viewing figures. And it may well be just as hard work to be a top women's footballer as a top men's footballer, but you don't get paid as much because of the lower gates and viewing figures.
