Yeah, seems to be a lazy choice. They seem to have gone with FF's popular choice on the last 2 selections rather than taking time and interviewing a number of candidates. I wanted Beale rather than Gio, but I don't think he's the right person at this point. The players need a fresh face and someone who's going to install discipline and that's not Beale. We're largely stuck with the current squad and there's not going to because massive refresh as we obviously don't have the cash for it. Hopefully Beale will prove me wrong and he'll turn things around, but I'm underwhelmed at the moment.5 points

The horseshoe stuff is a bit of a red herring. When you have >70% of possession and territory in most domestic games, going backwards to go forward is inevitable when facing low blocks. However, that makes set-pieces and forward play all the more important. And for whatever reason our set-pieces this season have been woeful - genuinely utterly terrible and totally devoid of any sort of quality, belief or imagination. Add in our fixation with buying quick wingers with next to to skillset and having no attackers with any real aerial prowess then is it any wonder we can't play through or physically outfight teams? Add in our incredibly slow use of the ball, then we can't even match Celtic's tempo or work-rate which usually wins them games under similar circumstances. Beale should be aware of all this which is his main advantage.4 points

I personally think there is gold in those statistics but i didn't kiss a girl until I was 26.3 points

It'll take some time to set up the bed of nails, hot coals and other devices to get this squad sorted out. I'm hoping to see a Rocky IV style montage (of their return to training) at some point.3 points

This is easily the most thoughtful, and insightful, thread on the topic so far. Don't read it if you have been asking for Knutsen or if you are a friend of Kevin Thomson.3 points

The Rangers Review - whilst part of the Herald Group - is a club media partner so will have solid information for the most part. It's not fan media per se but does have people like Stevie Clifford and David Edgar contributing to it so more of a blend of supporters and younger digital journalists like Jonny MacFarlane and Derek Clark. I don't know if the Lawrence story is true but if we see the lad back playing in a meaningful manner before the next Old Firm game I'll be pleasantly surprised. Same goes for Goldson and Hagi whilst it seems Helander will be a while a way yet. Add in the always unavailable Roofe, the unfit/disinterested Morelos and Jack who seems to be made of glass nowadays then we could still going to be around seven first XI players short when Celtic visit.3 points

Aye, let's get them back on the stovies, black n tans and capstan full strength anaw, that'll sort em. I'm sure Beale and Culshaw (if it turns out to be the case) will get them fit, but actually fit, not rose tinted spectacle fit.3 points

Dead right, compo. The world atlas wasn’t coloured two thirds red on pasta and garlic.3 points

Did you know he was promoted from the womens team? Imagine us appointing someone like that? There'd be a riot! Like appointing Emma Hayes.3 points

Was looking at the field in the bookmakers yesterday and the field was more like the donkey derby as opposed to the Epsom derby3 points

Well it looks like Beale is the man. I have confidence in him, I'm 100% sure we will have games where we will have the horseshoe and pointless crossing into the box but I cant see us being as slow and ponderous at times. He has been here and won the league. Will be interested to know what and who will make up his coaching staff. Rumours of Culshaw coming back which if true is welcome. NO MORE FLOATY OUTSWINGERS PLS. Also interesting to see what he can do as his own man and what kind of backing the board can give him. I'd personally be listening to offers for anyone, that includes Tav and Goldson. I'm not sure the player trading model works having your highest paid players having little resale value. Letting him go and get his own players in. The dressing room needs gutted. Perhaps the likes of Knutsen and Seaone were never an option. Who knows. All that matters is that the man is willing to come and take on the challenge. Without that there is no point discussing names.3 points

We appointed a top European coach in Le Guen who massively flopped but hiring McLeish turned out to be inspired. Sometimes things just fall into place.3 points

Most of the players he and Gerrard utilized (not all granted ) but most will be gone come the summer , we have a massive rebuild needed , he has proved he can install a system of play and get players playing at a high level , the last thing we needed is a manager with no idea about the club , the size , the fans expectations , the pressure , the shit we play week after week with low blocks to break down , for these reasons I actually believe he's exactly who we need right now .2 points

Nail on head. His opposition to Resolution 8 is particularly galling given how big a part the equivalent previous resolutions have played in harvesting investment into the Club especially at the beginning of regime change. He has no intention of investing another penny in us but seems determined to stop others from doing so in case it lessens the chances of recouping his money in the shorter term.2 points

I think we'll get that wish granted without too many restless nights.2 points

Not that relevant to the potential outcome of this suit though. Going Concern considers the subsequent 12 months and, at the time of audit sign off, in the next 12 months the auditors know we have CL money plus Aribo and Bassey money coming in - so even if we were to lose that suit and 9.5 mill we would still likely have been considered a going concern. Bears little relevance to the outcome of that suit though2 points

Oh. Well in that case... No - I'm still a "massive VL".2 points

Judging by usage it is a term of endearment. Voetball Leader or something.2 points

I don't think that I can. I did notice some debate on twitter. It focused on whether Knutsen fan boys are "massive V.L.s" or just "V.L.s". I don't think that is a substantial enough disagreement to say that he is wrong.2 points

The players are on holiday though, but agree the sooner the better.2 points

Nasty shock. I’d hoped the accounts would show Rangers as a going concern. I have only a fleeting acquaintance with the Black Art of Accountancy but I think the practitioners’ magic words for the lHummel claim are Contingent Liabilities.2 points

Should just get Barry Ferguson and Kris Boyd in there too. 🙄 This harking back disease Rangers fans have is bizarre.2 points

Oddly enough Clark and Josh Barrie never mentioned it this morning on thier daily update.. 🥸2 points

I believe KT will be involved in Beale’s team. Tom Culshaw too.2 points

It's not easy to play against well drilled, hard-working, physical teams - we see it increasingly across world football and even in Qatar this week. Just means we need more tools. Yes, there's nothing wrong with a Sakala who provides unpredictability and pace but complement him with a slower player with the guile and vision to provide a quality pass. We need to be much more flexible in our outlook. PS: It's worth noting we do have that to a degree (see Hagi, Roofe, Lawrence etc) but clearly they've all been unavailable. But that doesn't excuse our inability to strengthen much better and Wilson doesn't escape criticism there just because Gio has carried the can.2 points

First 3 managers = 68 years Next 16 managers = 55 years Last 5 managers = 11 years Going by that trend we should be interviewing Beale’s replacement after New Year.1 point

While feeling a bit meh about the Beale appointment, Culshaw's fiery attitude, and Thomson's passion are two things that don't seem to be present in the current backroom set up.....1 point

From the supposed list I’d have to say Beale would be the safest appointment. The likes of Soanne & Knutsen could have been too big a risk and was Dyche really interested?1 point

I know if I took charge they would be spending a fortnight at Gullane sleeping in tents and fed on hard tack until they got fit ,watching our lot these day’s it’s more like a Sunday pub team their fitness is not up to scratch .1 point

This is the hill I'm prepared to die on... I think Tav in particular is great and his contribution has been incredible, but him and Goldson have been key first team players under multiple managers now and those teams have exhibited the same weaknesses, flaws and character traits time after time. I wouldn't be gutted to see them both move on as its the very definition of doing the same thing time and time again and expecting a different result.1 point

Not overly convinced by Beale as new manager but the list of alternatives is hardly appealing. Relationship with Wilson and recruitment now going to be key. Importantly, can Beale get more out of players that had begun to look demotivated under him and Gerrard previously? On the other hand, perhaps Beale (and a new coaching team's) influence may be greater than that of Gerrard who had looked similarly disinterested? Cannot underestimate how vital this appointment and player recruitment is for the medium/longer term aspirations of the club.1 point

In typical Rangers fashion, we are all quick to take one side and once we have chosen a side, the other side are automatically wrong. We have current board and fan media v King and Club1872 and fans are lining up behind either option and dismissing the other sides opinions. We are nothing if nothing if not predictable - the carcrash / soap-opra continues and, no signs of it stopping and it now looks like the fanbase is going to be even more fractured than before. The current board are horrific at simply things like communication, PR, fan engagement, ticketing, catering, disabled access, safe standing etc, and it doesn't take Dave King or Club1872 to highlight this, their deficiencies are staring us in the face on a day to day basis.1 point
