I think the hits to confidence that we’ve taken from our UCL group games, coupled with the injury list, throw in some poor squad and contract management across recent transfer windows, and I think you’ve got a perfect storm where we are shit out of form, confidence and options. A team lacking in form can look a million miles away from one that isn’t. Even if the relative underlying quality isn’t that different. A new manager could change us around quite quickly but I think we really could do with some new voices in the changing room.7 points

Let’s be honest, Dyche is not in the “Dear Lord no” category. There are plenty that are. Whatever you think of him he is clearly a competent manager.6 points

I'd be incredibly disappointed if his successor isn't already known. Interesting that there are no comments from Ross Wilson in that statement though.6 points

That was a surprise! After nothing was happening we were all resigned to the fact that nothing would. I am sorry things didn't work out for Gio but it is absolutely the right thing to do. I hope his staff go with him. They look utterly clueless on the bench and the players have regressed in their fitness, stamina and application and our set pieces are deplorable. As for Gio's replacement, I would prefer it wasn't someone who has recently been sacked but someone who is currently doing a decent job with the aspiration to better himself. I will, of course, back whoever it is.5 points

I’d like the manager who wins everything in sight year after year forever. I just don’t know how you tell which one it is. Failing that I’d go for a one-eyed black trans psychopath for entertainment value.4 points

If we have a replacement already sorted then this might be a good move PR-wise given it’ll have been done without any rumours getting out. Would allow the board to come out and change the narrative from what has been a gloomy couple of weeks.4 points

One has to assume Rangers already have a replacement ready to step in this week. No idea who that will be but no point in sacking Gio then having no-one capable to step in ahead of players returning to training next week. Going to be an interesting few days...4 points

No Rangers for more than a month and we're fighting with each other after barely a week. Is that the Rangers brand... ?4 points

Injured player is working on getting fit. Amazing! Look forward to seeing him in March '23.4 points

As disappointing as it was inevitable and has been for some time. Whilst he is in the main undoubtedly the author of his own misfortune some of the players need to take a good long hard look at themselves. If only it was so easy to remove them for performing below expectations.3 points

Mick Beale might well be the man for Rangers but let no one say it wouldn't be a huge gamble. He has managed QPR for ten minutes, which is scant preparation for the Rangers job. I don't doubt his coaching skills but I wonder if he has the strength of character to hold the attention of a Rangers dressing room. That said, you'd have to be very naive to think he rolled up at Ibrox the other week out of pure coincidence.3 points

It's actually 55%, but I'm not sure win % is a good metric to go on. We need a man that can get a 75-80% win rate, but who in world football has that? It would be a list of one (Pep).3 points

So we can rule those 3 out the 4th official guy knows very little.3 points

Best of luck on the next chapter of his life, but we need to get this appointment absolutely spot on. A Europa final and a SC isn't the worst record as a Rangers manager, however, We're second to Celtic and that is never acceptable as a Rangers manager. Hopefully the next manager goes by the name Gaffer and not Boss. Oh, and bring back the tricks.3 points

Yeah I feel the same, I don't know if he lost the dressing room and the players were just not playing for him,or as you say he run out of ideas ,but from day one of the season we have been awful apart from the first half v Napoli at Ibrox and Hearts and the sheep. I'm a wee bit sad for him as I'll never forget our run last season in the Europa League and I thank him for that and good luck to him for the future3 points

Somebody has floated the name Dominic Tedesco, late of Leipzig, across my screen.... Just when I was about to observe that Pedro has 'unfinished business' at Ibrox.3 points

Twas ever thus ascender. In the eyes of some of our fans a player is guilty until proven innocent, which has seen off many a player before they even have a chance over the years.3 points

No one's fighting. Bill has asked a rather vague question and is moaning because the responses aren't meeting his high standards.3 points

FWIW, I don't think it will be any of the names on that list.3 points

I suppose it was inevitable. Ever since Frankie turned against Gio, I knew his days were numbered.☺️ I hope this is a considered move with a plan in place to replace him and not simply a panic reaction. Gio may have had his faults but the players have a lot to answer for.3 points

To my mind, there is a distinction between a Rangers “brand” and what the club identity means to the fans. “Brand values” are often set down by corporate boardrooms with a view to differentiate them from their competitors, and in so doing sell more of their product. These values then inform any marketing etc so that, so the board hope, the values become synonymous with the product. To that end, if there is a Rangers Brand, you would expect that it is set out by the Club, either stated or inferred. If you were to ask people what words come to mind when you say “Rangers”, this should be in tune with the values the Club wish to project. Setting aside the usual culprits, Cammy made a good case for the Rangers Charity Foundation as the standard for the Brand values. These are set by the Club as how they would like us to be seen by others outside. If you were to ask people what words come to mind when you say “Rangers”, this should be in tune with the values the Club wish to project. If the values of the Foundation are not what springs to mind, the Club are not being successful in projecting these values to the outside world. I believe what the club identity means to the fans is something different. It may be tradition, religion, success or many other things. John Mc set out many in his excellent post. Bill’s original post was about how we are viewed by others and maybe that’s why he is disappointed that we have been unable to set out what our values are. We are often immersed in how we see Rangers and what they mean to us. It’s difficult to understand, dispassionately, how the wider population see us.3 points

Aye, it's been quite a rollercoaster. From From Dortmund and Leipzig to 7-1 and Piggery maulings - can't recall anything quite like it.3 points

You don’t have to be a super-coach to manage Rangers but you do have to know how to be the boss. Jock Wallace had it, so did Walter Smith, Graeme Souness and Dick Advocaat.2 points

As an aside, I would like to wish Gio all the best in the future and wish him good luck in his next role. In his year in charge he guided us to Europa League Final, won the Scottish Cup and qualified for the Champions League. The run to Europa League Final had some brilliant highs (although it ended on a low), with this being the pinnacle - that night will live in our memories for ever.2 points

This, combined with his inexperience and our poor form before he left, is exactly why he should be nowhere near the list. We need a ruthless bastard, not a nice guy.2 points

First and foremost we require a manager who will offer improvement and stability. We can't be sacking managers on a yearly basis.2 points

Hmm, I'm really not sure at all. Definitely not Gerrard, Beale or Martindale. Preferably Dyche, Knutsen or Muscat.2 points

I think people tend to view Dyche on his time in the EPL but if you look at how Burnley played and how many points they got in the Championship (a very challenging league to get out of), it tells a different story. Having said that, I don't think he'd come here anyway.2 points

Agreed. What's really pi$$ed me off is that we have all of this going on and then have fans slating guys like Tillman & King struggling to find their feet. Rangers are not an easy team to come in and hit the ground running... When you add-in the ongoing issues around confidence in the team, we really should be cutting them some slack. I'd really like to see someone come in and start making changes now instead of waiting until the summer if possible. If anyone isn't in the long term plans, they should go now rather than prolonging the inevitable.2 points

I was thinking about this yesterday. I don't know whether he's "lost the dressing room" in the traditional way or is just out of ideas? Or struggling to get his ideas across? There's clearly something not right, but like Gerrard's last season, nobody seems to be able to fix it.2 points

Speirs would eat shite if it paid him. Not sure if that is allowed under Qatari statute, mind2 points

Have to say I’m genuinely surprised as I thought he’d get until the end of this year. That’s the easy part done. Now get a replacement who can turn things around with the squad he’s going to inherit. No sign of the DoF going too?2 points

If the players really had downed tools for Gio, which I’m far from convinced about, it’ll be interesting to see if and how many of our long term injuries start clearing up in short order.2 points

He had to go. league form under him has been utterly woeful. almost perfect in cups mind you.2 points

I like the Bobby Sands add-on. Always have a wee chuckle to myself when I think about his demise.2 points
