its amazing the number of fans who even after everything we went through , after the last few years of massive losses and the front loading of investment which culminated in winning 55, still have no clue as to how football finances work . I had a discussion at work yesterday with a fellow fan and he thought we had all the transfer money already in the bank , there are fans that dont understand how these deals are structured and that usually they are paid over the period of the contract , also the VAT element , its mental how over the top our fanbase really is at times , there is never any logic applied .7 points

We should play these 3 regularly in the league this season. What's to lose.6 points

Ha ha isn't that the truth. You should know by now, everyone is an expert - "I watch football so I know how to manage a football team" - "I've been to school so I'm an expert on education" - "I've been to a bank so I'm a finance expert". It explains a lot about why we elect so many idiots to parliament. Seriously, the reaction to Saturday's debacle shows why fans should never be allowed to own and run Rangers.5 points

In the immediadte years prior to 2012 we had Donald Muir (Lloyds rep) placed on the board to assist in controlling our finances, a few months after Sir Duped left the hands on role, (August 2009). Prior to that, we had for many years been spending more than we earned in revenue. Sir Duped would look for other ways of trying to balance outgoings with incoming, whether it be investors or creativity around the tax bill. However, the salient point being generally speaking, we struggled to earn enough money to pay for how the club was run and this goes back a fair way. The support got used to a diet of big money transfers (and their wages) as a balm to soothe the occasional pain. We grew accustomed to the rumour mill being full of speculation around who would be the next name to come. Addiction is too strong a word but many missed it when it stopped. Our operating financial model back then was heavily flawed and not viable in the medium to long term. Walter did what Walter tended to do (win leagues) and Champions League Football/Finance helped us continue on. Three out of 4 years between 07/08 to 10/11, making the CL group stages. We spent to soothe the balm of losing to Kaunas in 2008 (before DMuir), with Walter putting together a team that would win the next two leagues. Then 2011/12 came and our financial chickens came home to roost. Post 2015 was a strategy of constructive losses that were paid for by director/investor soft loans turned into equity. That has finished. The point of the above is to say, we can't go back to how it was. That an eventual 70% limit of revenue (part of new FFP regs.) on spend (transfers, wages, agent fees, etc.) is going to force us (and many others) into a fairly radical rethink. The board have obviously been thinking about this for quite a while and are trying to up revenues and strengthen youth development. The latter being the only realistic way forward, IMO.5 points

9 million reasons and then some why we sold him. That and Tav plays most weeks.3 points

I don't believe I've ever seen the levels of hysteria from our on-line support as I have in the last 48 hours. The manager should go. The board should go. The players aren't good enough etc etc etc. Yes, Saturday's performance wasn't good enough, but I don't see the need to go overboard. If we look at the 9 in a row seasons, only 4 had better league starts to the season than this one. Even the famous 92-93 season was worse at this stage. I hate to think what the internet would be like back then. We've qualified for the Champions League group stages. A fantastic feat, which appears to have been forgotten. We were in a European final a few months ago, the run to which have at least 5 games which would easily feature into my top 20 favourite Rangers games of all time. I don't believe any other season would have as many and wouldn't trade the memories of them that Gio helped give us. We didn't spend in the transfer window and I'm as disappointed as most on that, but there's a few potential reasons for that, including FFP, the SDI settlement being a lot higher than we'd thought, and future cashflows. We are still inherently loss-making and while we may be profitable last season and this season, we still need to plan ahead and look at next season and the cashflows required. There's even been allegations that the board are keeping the cash for themselves to repay their investments, but as he club will never pay dividends, that's patently untrue. Things may not be perfect at the moment but they're far from the disaster that many are suggesting.2 points

Liverpool is Real`s level, I have no idea about Ajax' or Napoli's. Our`s is the EL, and I would assume everyone in here knows that and will acknowledge any of our performances accordingly. All you can ask for is that we make our scalp as difficult to get as possible.2 points

The club are changing but need to speed up the emphasis on youth. Not easy but necessary. As FFP regulations are gradually introduced, our youth system/pathway has to gradually take over and provide say, half of our starting XI. The full details and ramifications of FFP need to be spelled out (via third parties?) prior to the club communicating with the support on the continuing way forward and the patience that will be required. eg. AGM 2022 We need to be clear that things are changing and resource allocation will be different/challenging.2 points

I thought when they lost the case they were to pay our costs or was I imagining this .2 points

We have enough people in Scotland belittling us, without joining in ourselves. Very recently over 100,000 Rangers fans turned up for a match in Southern Spain.2 points

After watching Real dismantle the Dhims tonight, you do wonder about the step up in class. Real looked like they were playing a different sport at times.1 point

Early days but good to see both Paterson and Bassey overcome initial problems and start to show some form. We need our exports to do well so as to help make the foundations of our player trading model more solid and attractive to potential customers. I noted the figure that Ajax received in transfer fees this summer window as being £195m.1 point

I wonder what is actually going on. It's clear the Record has no idea. I wish we'd go back to banning quotes from the Sun and the Record. It's always bullshit.1 point

I don't think anyone knows. Last season they sneaked the title with only a 2 point lead. Since then they have sold £195m in talent and spent £95m of that on replacements. After an initial blip with the loss to PSV in the community shield equivalent, they've cruised through their league matches since and look very strong. Only three new players are likely to start against us; Bergwijn, Brobbey and Bassey (£63m of their spend), in part due to an injury to their new £9m left back. On paper, they are probably weaker than last season. They should be a cut above us but our best chance of finishing 3rd is by beating Ajax, it is achievable if we can find our European form again.1 point

Not sure FIFA allow legal action against the SPFL. They certainly don't v the SFA.1 point

I might not remember the facts correctly but it was Parks, not the Club, who raised the court action. Parks were successful but only on an interim basis although getting a final order with an award of expenses, I suppose, would be a formality. **The Club will have incurred the expense of legal advice but not being involved in the Court case won’t have an immediate right to recover that outlay. The Club was involved as a party in the SFA arbitration process. What happened to that? Parks are not a members of the SPFL so Park himself as Club Chairman can’t use the Club to blackmail the League (Unfortunately) Rangers may well have a right to recover their legal expenses but absent a formal award, won’t be able to make much use of that as a threat. If Rangers are subsequently found to have withheld consent to the TV deal unreasonably might that make them liable to the other clubs for their loss of a share of the extra money? I think this is the wrong battle to fight. ** On checking back, the action was Parks against the SFA with Rangers in the proceedings as interested parties. If there was an award of expenses, use it. If not get the award pronto.1 point

Do we have the only Dutch coaching team in Europe which will not give youth its head? Or Is the youth which we hope to see given its head not good enough?1 point

Yilmaz can play in place of Kent, which probably suits his game - he's very offensive. Who's the other?1 point

I'd like to see a Nagelsmann-esque 3-5-2: McLaughlin Sands - Goldson - King Lundstram Tavernier - Tillman - Lowry - Kent Morelos - Colak It won't happen, though, because GvB is not that type of manager: he doesn't know how to implement it. It'll continue to be the 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3. It'll continue to be very organised and possession-based. Not bad in itself, but you need a way of penetrating deep blocks. Our transition play is quite good, but that doesn't work against the domestic diddies. There have definitely been improvements in the build-up, but the play in the final third is non-existent: It's like GvB just leaves it to a player's individual quality to unlock defences. There's no cohesive game-plan in place, a la Them.1 point

We have a golden opportunity here to reinvent ourselves in the league starting on Saturday. Let's see if Gio has the vision and drive to do that. honestly if we go out over the next 4 league games and it's the same old pedestrian tosh and players regardless of results we should start looking elsewhere.1 point

We need to bring through enough quality so as 5 or 6 of the first team regular starters have come through our own youth development. It might take a couple of years but we have to start now.1 point

A bit melodramatic don't you think. We got horsed, there are problems, it was gut-wrenching to watch. But hey, we're still drawing breath and tomorrow is always another day. What is it they say, our day will come 🤣1 point

Rangers are currently 33rd in UEFA coefficient table, probably around 40-50th in terms of revenue (unable to confirm but is an educated guess - Man City are 1st with 644m revenue - Lazio are 30th with 163m revenue, Deloitte 2021) of about 1037 professional clubs across 37 professional leagues in Europe. So we're well within the top 3-5% depending on whether it's based on performance or revenue. Dwarfed by the biggest clubs in England and Spain but not small by any means.1 point

We also have several first team starting players out injured. There were signs of moving in the right direction v ross county and we need to see that level from now on.1 point

I see no reason why Lowry, King and McRorie shouldn't already be challenging for regular starts. Especially since none of them appear to have particularly strong competition, especially in the case of King.1 point
