  1. Colin Stein scored eight goals in his first ten days after signing for Rangers. A hat trick at Gayfield against Arbroath, Rangers winning 1-5. A further hat trick against his former club, Hibs at Ibrox in a 6-1 thrashing. Only a midweek double in a Fairs Cup away game in Dundalk in 0-3 victory.

  2. I'd agree with your sentiment, apart from the 'does nothing' part. I love how Morelos bullies folk much bigger than him, his running in the channels is great, and when he's on it, his work rate is up there too. But he's never a natural finisher. We need both of these guys to fire.

  3. Colak seems to be the opposite of Morelos: does nothing, but give him a chance and he'll tuck it away; Morelos does a lot in the build-up, but squanders a lot of chances.

  4. i don't see how he improves us. he plays where lundstrum plays. Maybe instead of Kamara in Europe but he's no better and Kamara is struggling for minutes. We need attacking midfielders who score goals. He does not. Also we would have no prospect of keeping him. Loans like Tilman and Sands are ok. Loans like this would not be.

  5. We need a bit of a clear out. I feel a wee bit sorry for Sakala but GvB clearly doesn't want him.

  7. We won't be signing an 8th center back nor should we. We should be punting a couple.

  8. Yes, 'does nothing' is very harsh, but it was just to exaggerate the comparison between the two players.

  9. Colak is the kind of player that Dick Advocaat was desperate to get his hands on: he gets on the end of things, and finishes.

  10. I made this point in the MotM thread: why do we need to drop a player just because he has flaws? He needs to play to iron out these flaws. That's the only way he improves. As long as he has the tools, give him the games. I'll say it again: Bassey was terrible at CB in his first few games.

  11. The thing that impresses me is loads of strikers need 5 chances to get a goal. I colak got 5 chances he would score 6. his conversion rate is huge we need to be getting the lad chances.

  13. I think Sands prefers to play a deeper defensive line, based on yesterday's errors. I'm sure the coaches will have noted that and they'll work on it. I like the look of King. Doesn't take any shit but maybe a bit too inexperienced to be relied upon.

  15. Sands should definitely have been off. I don't think the elbow in his face was worthy of a card. The Ross County player was looking the other way and there was no intent. The officials in Scotland are flippin' useless.

  16. A stroll in the park for The Famous, yesterday. Four and should have had more. A clean sheet, and no significant butcher's bill, either, as far as I know. All good, then. The 'first' yellow for Sands by the referee was preposterous, and should never have been given. The 'second' was a clear booking, and wasn't given. These things even themselves out, I am told. The Ross Co right back should have received a second yellow for a second bad tackle on Kent. These things even themselves out...... Rangers' could have had a penalty, perhaps should have, perhaps two. These things even themselves out... The referee and assistants missed the elbow into the face of Sands, which defies understanding. I await the Compliance Officer intervening to even that mistake out, which, of course, it won't. Retrospective action is, well, retrospective, and can't affect the match in which the unnoticed, or ignored, infraction occurred. (Morelos would have got two reds for that incident-one for the act, one for his malice aforethought, since you ask- and a ban long enough to ensure his non participation when, inevitably, Colak is deliberately sidelined by some kick boxing enthusiast masquerading as a professional footballer.) The narrative for next weekend's clash at Victimhood Central is now set, and the officials will be put under sustained, and not necessarily subtle, pressure in/by the media, in the lead up. Situation normal, all stitched up. 'Red card for any Rangers' player' might look like a bet.

  19. A good team performance with various players looking the part including Kent, Barisic and Colak in particular. However, my MotM was John Lundstram who took on the responsibility of running the midfield on his own and got us going in the first half with an albeit fortunate opening goal.

  21. Villa 1 down v West Ham. Really surprised that they didnโ€™t bring more players in during the summer. Gerrard was mumping his chops that the Rangers board didnโ€™t back him, heโ€™s hardly done well with the cash the Villa board have given him tbh. Needs results soon or heโ€™ll be seeing much more of his family than heโ€™d have hoped.

  22. FFS! Sands was MotM against PSV Eindhoven, a team which would give every SPL team except Rangers a veritable doing. He had a sticky match yesterday, although at times the 'high line' employed meant that at times it seemed that he was the defence. Whether his regular position will be centre back, or defensive midfielder, or even full back, remains to be seen I am sure that GvB played midfield for Rangers, but left back for Arsenal and Barcelona, and captained Holland from that position.

  23. the trouble is if that second one is a foul its a red not a yellow. Having seen it again he should have been off.

  24. Gilmour will come back to Ibrox under two conditions.... -Completely gone tits up in the English system, on a free... -In his thirties---in decline...strictly for the cash. The little feller left Scotchland for a reason...he doesn't want to come back. I betcha dollars for donuts that is the case.

  26. Sands worries me. Though he was excellent v PSV he always seems as though CB is not his natural position; he often gets caught wrong side. We either need to get Helander fit or prioritise a left central defender over such as Raskin. Unless Leon King can work alongside Goldson?

  27. They would delight in handing us a Pyrrhic victory, where Rangers wins, but has players crocked, more than if they won themselves, but the officials, as usual, will be well on top of any agricutural play.

  28. Celtc fans seem surprisingly confident given their record in Europe. My Liverpool supporting boss told me what they would do to us the other day. I told him this years CL is a whos who of teams who thought they would scud us.

  36. You are now, Chair of the Sit on your Hands Loyal RSC. A Regimental mate provided me with his Leeds United season ticket for the Elland Road CL game in 1992. When Hateley scored in the 8th minute, a young chap and his girlfriend sitting several rows in front, jumped up to celebrate. It took the Police and Stewards fully 15 minutes to pacify the situation. Both Rangers supporters suffered several blows. Stay safe.

  37. Very unusual to have the same opponent in first and last game. It was always 1&5, 2&6, 3&4. Still we can dream that we still have a chance of 3rd place going into the last game at home, that for me would be a fantastic achievement and Iโ€™d take it just now.

  39. Enlightening PQ piece as always @26th of foot. Interestingly, it puts into context the filed copy report on PQ web next day. From it's begrudging title "Dogged Rangers fight way to place with big boys" ' the article sets a tone of a very fortunate win from a "little team" riding their luck to the limit to grab a fortunate place at Europe's top table. All the profligate PSV players are named and shamed, as the article slanders PSV's failings. Tom rolls out full verbal armoury. "Slapstick, purgatory, wastefulness, missed chances etc", As for Rangers? By the end of first half according to Tom, "Rangers were "Hanging on" and "needed that whistle like they needed their next breath" No hope for our supporters, steeling ourselves to saying goodbye to glamour CL ties and " Hello Europa League old friend. We're back" Now it doesn't take a genius to figure all this copy would be written at half time as Tom prepared the final stamp on our death warrant. So dear old Tom was forced to change the narrative. Searching for that acceptable line. He has to up the tempo. Rangers "doggedness" is mentioned several times. Lawrence, Colak and Tillman are the only 3 Rangers outfield players mentioned. PSV has 7 or 8 players referenced. Our away record in Europe is poor. Only one win since the beginning of last season. Apparently for our goal, Ramalho was entitled to miss the danger caused by Tillman, as for the first hour, the most powerful telescopic lens could not have picked him out. No mention from Tom of the great team counter pressing for the goal. Rather "one of the most glorious tap-ins in our history" For a Chief Sports writer the article is downright sloppy and underwhelming. You can almost sense his disappointment between the lines. It belittles and disregards our teams European exploits over 4 seasons. It downplays the Europa League as a "little boys" competition conveniently overlooking the fact that most of our achievements in the EL have been beating teams "parachuted" out of the "big boy" league. Without actually stating the fact, it implies that the other Glasgow club somehow belong in this heady environment? Why not remind your readers Tom? To which club do Celtic have to thank for their automatic entry to the CL? As you state @26th of footObjectivity? Not from the man from Limerick I fear. Really poor stuff!

  40. "I fear for Rangers, I really do". The above quote is from BBC Scotland's Tom English, it was the conclusion of his half-time summing up of events in the PSV's Philips Stadium. In his two minute interval report on BBC Radio Scotland, he fired off five timings, all opportunities for PSV to take the lead. In boxing parlance, Rangers were slumped upon the ropes and taking a pounding, the break was most welcome otherwise, "the Rangers bench would have been searching for the towel". As I was standing outside the Howf listening to my pocket radio, I thought Tom needed a towel to mop his feverish brow? I had watched the first half in the pub and thought we had endured a sticky 10 minute opening spell, had played our way in and, controlled 15-20 minutes in the middle of the first period. I recognise the Dutch had made a couple of openings but, they had NOT worked our Keeper. Steven Thomson at the match and Neil McCann in the PQ studio agreed with my observations. Lundstram had whistled a shot past the post and, both Tillman and Colak had shot directly at the PSV Keeper. Further, everyone agreed the Dutch players' movement had tested Rangers in the final five minutes of the half. "PSV made enough chances to win two, three games"? The above quote is from BBC Scotland's chief commentator, Liam McLeod, it was his final sentence of a full time summation. Again, both Thomson and McCann talked up the achievement and, highlighted Lawrence rattling the goal frame with a wonderful strike after displaying quick feet in the box. Both agreed the final 30 minutes had been comfortable for a thoroughly professional Rangers. A full fifty minutes after the final whistle, Tom English reappeared from the depths of PQ, we were told he was filing copy? Now, Tom has filed copy on dozens of occasions whilst broadcasting and he usually takes 15-20 minutes. He is a well practised Journo. At ra Stade de Gadd, Tom is back in the fold within 20 minutes to offer his views in breathless excitement. What was Tom doing for the extra thirty minutes on Wednesday evening, was he searching for the acceptable line? Both Tom and Liam had the script and refused to deviate from a pre-penned narrative despite, what their eyes told them. I fear for objectivity at BBC Scotland, I really do. BBC Five Live's approach differed from PQ, enthusiastic at Rangers performance and, in agreement with both Thommo and Terry in their appreciation of Rangers professionalism. Yesterday, the Scottish Daily Express published a column asking why two arms of Auntie Beeb had arrived at differing narratives? Tom's copy was heavy on tough, dogged and, redoubtable Rangers, the accompanying unnamed piece asked, 'what do two clubs in the Champions League do for the Game'? You will not be surprised to hear our qualification creates a widening gulf and any benefits to the Scottish game are dependent upon what you want from the game??????? There you are Gersnetters, do NOT do drugs. I suspect we all thought Rangers reaching the Europa Cup final last season created a seismic shift in our game. We were quickly informed by the usual suspects that losing the match on penalties was devastating. Immediately after events in Seville, Michael Stewart Tweeted : "Winning the Scottish Cup for Rangers or Hearts will be huge. It will round off a great season for Hearts with European group football already guaranteed, for Rangers it will mean not finishing empty handed. Missing the Champions League money is a MASSIVE blow to their finances". The MASSIVE capitals were all Michael's. He extrapolated on BBC Radio Scotland, reaching the Europa Cup final had temporarily dug Rangers out of a financial hole, players will have to be sold, "they didn't win the cup, the gamble may have failed. We will have to wait and see"? Since the above Tweet, Michael's Twitter feed has ignored the Scottish Cup final result and, Rangers Champions League qualification. He is fixated with Scottish independence and the tranquility of Catalonia. Like Tom's copy I am sure Michael is awaiting further narrative advice from the Kerrydale Accountants? A comfort blanket, a much treasured comfort blanket has been wrenched from the collective PQ hands. We know in three and half years they chose not to interview Steven Gerrard, we know they have not interviewed Gio either, so far. When they do sit down with the Rangers Gaffer, I hope he does not miss, Michael Stewart is a MASSIVE target.

  41. Agree with all that's been said, but I would still not like Alfie to leave; what a substitute to bring on for a tiring Colak, not to mention competition. And Gio cleverly seems to have offered him a route back to the fold. If we sell, we won't get what we would have got 2 or 3 years ago.
