We need to be patient with Yilmaz he is a young player who will need to adjust to the physicality of Scottish football and the park the bus. I have a feeling Colak wont have many games where you'll think 'Colak played well today' but he will still score plenty of goals. He was a low risk low cost signing as a backup and I think its fair not to expect much more from him. Goals win games and we didnt have enough last season. Tillman looks great in flashes, but runs out of steam. There is quite a bit of potential there, however I think both he and Lowry can play in the same team on days like yesterday. Lawrence i like the look of. That effort in the 1st half that hit the bar was brilliant. At times he looked like he really wanted the ball and tried to make things happen. Great ball into Colak for the goal. Matondo had a good cameo coming on as a sub. Could have been a bit more aggressive at times as the lad he was up against was tiring. Did well for the goal. Great to have Alfredo back, made an instant impact in terms of his presence. A few times a Kille defender had to nick the ball away from his feet before he could get the shot away. Other than getting ourselves in bother passing the ball about at the back we looked comfortable in defence. Not hard when the Kille Striker (Lafferty) spend most of the game as a space centre back for them. McLaughlin has a kicking error in him. Is very comfortable with the ball at his feet but is not quite Ronald Waterreus. Davis was good for me, especially in the second half. Kept it all together. Goldson and Sands is fine at the back. I actually like Sands at CB. Sakala's exclusion makes it seem his time here is done. If so lets move him on, get a fee and bring in another striker. Doesn't need to be a #9 but a Mane/Jota(Liverpool one) type player who can play across the front 3. Not much to ask Also - there was a ten minute spell in the first half where we hit a few shots from outside the box and every one hit a killie defender, they had about 5 bodies in the middle of the box. Dreadful stuff.6 points

Maybe you need to make your points in a way where they won;t be misconstrued. This isnt the first time for you and it could derail the thread. Onto your point. Yilmaz didnt have a great first showing, that is for sure. Looks lightweight and didn't offer any more than Barisic does. However, am I concerned as you asked ? No, it was his first appearance and nerves would be there for such a young guy. Nothing to worry about after an hour.4 points

Ridvan won several headers in the second half. As others have said it was probably as low key a debut as you'll see but that in itself need not be an issue. He struggled a wee bit early doors but grew into the game and was perfectly fine after around the 30min mark without being involved much - either going forward or defensively. It may take the lad a wee while to settle into a very different culture so we can only hope that happens as quickly as possible.4 points

I felt one of the reasons Lawrence had a much improved game from the Livvy game was because he was noticeably very often dropping deeper to collect the ball and drive at defenders. I think he is much more effective doing that than simply holding his position and waiting for the ball.3 points

Supporting the Ladies Game in Scotland? I suppose the beginning of the thaw between PQ and Rangers began last season in the SWPL? BBC Scotland decided to support women participating in the Scottish professional game. A thirty minutes weekly highlights show was scheduled for Monday evening on the BBC Scotland channel and, a number of selected games were broadcast live on Sunday afternoons. Rangers played their home matches at the Training complex at Auchenhowie and BBC Scotland attended on half a dozen occasions. Rangers won the league , much to the chagrin of PQ's Alba commentator, Alex O'Henley. You may remember Alex, he was the sports correspondent for the newspaper, West Highland Free Press owned by Sellik Director, Brian Wilson? Alex hail hails from South Uist and received quite a step up when UEFA decided he was perfect to be a neutral Observer at the 2006 Champions League fixture between Villarreal and Rangers. Alex submitted the desired report that saw Rangers punished and became a cause celebre among the Graham Spiers, Jum Spence, RAB Cosgrove, ........ etc set. Yesterday saw the start of the SPWL season 22-23 and since Rangers are Champions and we are in a Friends Again situation, BBC Scotland decided to cover Sellik v Hibs live on the BBC Scotland channel. Sellik and Hibs finished third and fourth respectively last season. Rangers opening fixture was against the newly promoted Glasgow Women at our new home ground of Broadwood. PQ promised live coverage of this game too, on the BBC Scotland i-Player. Beeb Scotland's digital build up included the line about picking up on the Lionesses success in winning the recent Euros. BBC Scotland were determined to support the game in Scotland and provide the necessary exposure to the SWPL. Both the Sellik and Rangers fixtures kicked off at the same time and BBC Alba broadcast live from Airdrie's Excelsior's ground. Sellik raced into an early two goal lead. Rangers had also notched early at Broadwood but those of us tuned to BBC Scotland i-Player did not know. We had a blank screen. Then, we were informed, "Back Soon" and, "588 were viewing". After twenty minutes with Rangers leading 4-nil the message on the i-Player changed, "We are aware of some technical difficulties which are preventing viewers from watching Rangers v Glasgow Women. We are working on it". On the thirtieth minute the working on it bit ended and BBC Alba's broadcast of Sellik v Hibs arrived on our i-Player screens. During Sellik's 7-zip hammering of Hibs, we were kept up to date on the Rangers game by off screen text messages, each goal informed of time and scorer. At half time, because Sellik have signed a player called Gallagher, PQ treated us to a comparison with Sellik legend, 'Patsy Gallagher' - the mighty atom. We were not told if the Rangers game was going to be broadcast and the failure to do so was not addressed. Despite live coverage from Broadwood being available on other means, BBC Scotland stuck with their preferred green'ngrey hooped heroines. Today, there is still no explanation. Apparently, 588 of us do not exist and are not worthy of an explanation. Rangers won 14(fourteen) - nil and there is a full sixteen minute highlights package available on YouTube should you want to indulge? Last week, BBC Scotland's Sportscene under Michael Stewart's guidance did not show or discuss incidents favourable to Rangers, this was rectified after the club had a word on the Sunday show when Michael was not present. Supporting and promoting the Ladies game here in Scotland indeed. I wonder if there is an ad hoc policy among PQ's usual suspects of more careful hate? You know, do not slander Rangers or the fans with untruths, just treat them with utter contempt.3 points

Ok, I'll bite..... I like / rate Borna, always have but he is a confidence player. When he is confident he plays well. His crosses have led to numerous goals in important games. However, he has his defensive lapses. Borna's strengths are hugging the touchline and giving us width and an outlet on the left and whipping crosses into the box (he can do this from bye-line or from distance). What I noticed yesterday was Yilmaz can go and looks comfortable, either wide, but also cutting inside which gave Lawrence more space out wide. For a small player, up against a much taller opponent he did win his fair share of headers. Wasn't the greatest league debut I can remember but certainly wasn't the worst.3 points

By the very knowledgeable poster, Mo_txTruBlu on FF: ”Rangers opened the 1959-60 season with the Millar Brand pairing as a No.9 and No.10 for the first time. Jimmy Millar a Wing Half/Inside Forward, who had made only 9 appearances in the previous season, had been forced to play Centre Forward in place of the injured Max Murray in an end of season Friendly a few months earlier and scored all 4 second half goals in a 4-0 win. Despite Max Murray being our top goalscorer in each of the previous three seasons (99 Goals in 123 Games) this prompted Scot Symon to start the 59-60 season with Millar as his Center Forward, and Ralph Brand at Inside Left. Rangers thrashed Hibs 6-1 at Easter Rd, with Ralph Brand scoring 4 goals, and Millar netting one on his first official stint as Rangers Centre Forward. The headline on that Saturday's Evening Times front page was "A 'BRAND' NEW FITBA' SEASON". The promise of this MB partnership looked good, but they only got the first four games under their belt, before Symon opted to bring back Sammy Baird at Inside Left. Surprisingly, Brand, who had scored a very impressive 29 Goals in 35 Games over the past 12 months, would only get 11 more starts that season, whilst the more experienced Sammy Baird was preferred in 38 games, with a return of 15 goals, as Rangers marched all the way to the Semi Finals of the European Cup, and collected the Scottish Cup. Jimmy Millar ended the season as top scorer with 40 Goals in 52 Games. Other players who impressed that season, was the versatile forward Davy Wilson who scored 22 Goals/50 Games, and that wonderful Inside Right (8), Ian McMillan who weighed in with 20 goals. Alex Scott on the right wing chipped in with 19 goals. The next four seasons, 1960-64 would see the Millar Brand partnership combine to score 254 Goals between the pair.”2 points

I'm really pleased to let everyone know that we've been provisionally offered B team and Women's team media access for this season - hopefully as a first step to Men's team access in the future. I realise that family/work commitments and geography may rule several contributors out of volunteering to cover matches (myself included) but if anyone is interested then I'd be happy to back anyone who would like to attend any matches. Obviously those who are able to cover these games would then get priority for any future first team access. For information, the Rangers B team will be playing home matches at Dumbarton again this season and the Women's team will play at Broadwood. If you're interested (or perhaps have a friend or relation that might be), please get in touch to find out more...1 point

Kent has been passed fit to take some part in the game (possibly from the bench) and Sakala will also return to squad...1 point

We need to remember this is the first time for many of this squad they will face the 'park the bus' week on week. It will take time for them to adjust and find thier best approach.1 point

At risk of being condemned by the tweed wearing, pipe smoking, snifter loving Elders for liking flashy, glitzy and shiny new gee-gaws, I am going for Tillman, whose performance I enjoyed. The lad looks a player.1 point

I went for Davis but could easily have been Lawrence. Funny how none of us voted for Goldson!1 point

I'm not sure we've seen it from him yet, but I feel that Yilmas will also likely try to beat his man versus passing back (which we see too much of from Borna).1 point

Sorry about that. I try to keep the inner pedant under strict control but it’s a wild beast and breaks out from time to time. Should be ok now for a week or two.1 point

League over. City have won it. I know there are formalities to be gone through but Liverpool and United have dropped too many points already and we know ‘Spurs will ‘Spurs it. Anyway, West Ham away or So’ton at home? How did ‘Spurs even manage to go a goal behind? Meanwhile, in the Championship Sunderland have launched their promotion charge. Watch out, Mags. The ghosts of Roker are coming to claim you. There you are, lads. Two sensible, carefully considered predictions. Raid the wife’s housekeeping money, empty the kids’ money boxes and off to the Booky’s. At the odds you’ll get there’s no need to use your own funds.1 point

He did ok. No more or no less than Barasic but he has literally played about 60 minutes of league football. I wouldn't make rash judgements on that amount of game time. Do we ever learn?1 point

If for whatever reason people feel compelled to constantly criticise certain players then there are several in our squad who present a more deserving target than Connor Goldson.1 point

It’s too easily overlooked that we were missing Kent & Morelos on Tuesday and we’d sold aribo & Bassey We were, arguably, missing our 4 best players from last season on Tuesday.1 point
