Barisic is a very hot and cold player. On his day he can be terrific but when he's not 'on it' he can be a liability. If Bassey is on his way then we definitely need a new LB.3 points

If true then that is the best thing all round, sell him and get some good cash in, still would prefer him to stay but after his performances last season I knew he would be our biggest earner!.3 points

After doing a quick search, I think I'm completely wrong: "Buy-back clauses in transfer agreements are used primarily to give a selling club the security of being able to repurchase a promising player at a set fee should the player excel in the future. Some high profile examples of such reported clauses include Álvaro Morata (Juve back to Madrid), Casemiro (Porto back to Real Madrid) and Gerard Deulofeu (Everton back to Barcelona) . In many cases, the benefit of the transfer extends to the: selling club as they receive a transfer fee for a player that at present probably isn’t getting regular playing time with the possibility of requiring the player if he plays well at a predefined fee; buying club who can purchase a player that they otherwise may not have been able to acquire had it not been for the clause. In addition, the buyback figure is usually significantly higher than the original transfer fee; and player (who can play regular first team football, probably receive a pay rise and demonstrate their talent). The buy-back provision is usually based on a number of individual or cumulative triggers including activating the clause: In defined transfer windows (i.e. the selling club cannot buy back the player for a minimum of two seasons); should the original selling club bid a set amount (which could vary depending on the season that the buy-back clause is triggered i.e. €2m in the 15-16 windows and €2.5m in the 16-17 windows). Should a buy-back provision be triggered, there is usually a contractual obligation to enforce the contract and transfer the player accordingly. As such provisions are commercial agreements between contracting parties, there is always the possibility of removing a buy-back clause should both parties agree (usually through payment made to the club that has the benefit of the buy-back clause). An interesting situation was reported over the summer with Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld who was on loan at Southampton for the 2014/15 season. Southampton had an agreement with Atletico when entering into the loan deal that they had the option to purchase the defender for £6.8m. Although not a buy-back provision, the clause gave Southampton the ability to convert the loan into a permanent transfer unless Atletico paid Southampton £1.5m to remove the clause. In the 2015 summer window Tottenham bid around £11.5m which Atletico accepted. Southampton though wanted to enforce the £6.8m purchase clause. It has not been publically reported how the matter was finally resolved but it is likely that Atletico provided compensation to Southampton in order for the player to transfer to Tottenham. How is it different from a first refusal clause? A first refusal transfer clause gives the club who has the benefit of the clause the opportunity to be informed of any deal that the selling club is willing to accept for the transfer of the player. This is different from a buy-back clause because usually with a first refusal clause, the selling club retains the power to decide whether to sell the player or not. Typically, a buy-back clause automatically triggers the transfer of the player should specific contractual conditions be met. In practice, the selling club will not have any way of refusing the buy-back offer if the clause is intended to be an automatic trigger and it is drafted appropriately."3 points

The only thing to worry about is how much money we get for him.3 points

And there never will be once. 🙂2 points

The primary objective today wasn't to win the game. When that is the main objective in a couple of weeks we will hopefully field a team to achieve it.2 points
-
You should be. Well be playing a CL qualifier in a couple of weeks.2 points
-
I don’t think they can. I think when there is an option to buy there is a contractual obligation for the parent club to accept a pre agreed fee. In any case I can’t see an elite club like Bayern being remotely interested in any of our players no matter how well they play. They are on a different level completely.2 points

If we get a big fee as reported for Bassey who only really played when Gio and co arrived then that is spectacular business by the club.1 point
-
Not a whole season, but you don't have to go far back to see a poorish pre-season extend into the start of the season. Last season, we were poor in all games, other than the Real Madrid friendly where players were well up for it. Fast forward a week or so and 3 competitive defeats on the bounce, Malmo x2 and our fist league defeat for 17 months. The same soft centre would return regularly throughout the season and cost us the league. One other that vaguely sticks in the mind was McCoist's first season as manager. Poor pre season (started in Germany IIRC) extended into competitive games. Drew first league game at home to Hearts then went out to Malmo (CL) and Maribor (EL) without winning a game. The important thing about hitting the ground running is obviously CL qualifying, the land of milk and honey. The poor starts above hurt the club's finances in a big way.1 point

Just my opinion, I don't rate the guy at all. When he is at his best he is average, he is a liability and our weakness.1 point
-
I just hope we can bring in a LB, don't want to suffer Barisic for another season.1 point
-
Indeed. But we should also recognise that there's still some way to go before this can be expected to bear fruit every summer .... and that it isn't easy - there will be years when we don't make this kind of money. If you look at the current squad, we will have to devote first team opportunities to 2 or 3 fringe players in order to create future selling possibilities. That probably means finding regular space for the likes of King, Lowry, Sands, etc.1 point

Another positive is that Aribo was the only regular starter over the last 3 seasons. Patterson was a reserve right back and up until last season, Bassey was a reserve left / centre back.1 point

I thought today was a decent run out. It's a friendly, so certainly nothing to be concerned about - these matches are really just to get everyone match fit.1 point

Yeah, I never really get the idea that we shouldn't be concerned about pre-season form. We need to be building fitness of course, but also confidence. That said, we won today so 🙌1 point

I literally don't know any fan who is alarmed with friendlies!!!1 point

BBC Scotland and the Daily Record have issued a warning order to their Journalists in Blackpool. The Rangers support departing Bloomfield Road have turned towards the beach. PQ and Central Quay have told Journos to abandon their KissMeQuick hats and Candy Floss, move to the waterside urgently because the traveling Rangers support have previous for the recalcitrant behaviour of destroying sand castles.1 point

Davis never followed his man for their goal. Thought the second string played better than first. I feel for colak. No service to him at all. Our lack of creativity is alarming.1 point

Another young player with bags of potential, great strike1 point
-
Yes he is, he can also cover LB as can King who is right footed as well. Be good to see the new signings play1 point

I'm strangely positive about selling Bassey, aye we'll miss him, but its a phenomenal piece of business if the quoted figures bear out, and it means some of the money can then be outlayed on more potential future stars. We HAVE to operate this way.1 point
-
If Borna was to play somewhere near the top of his game, it'd go a long way to sorting out the gap on the left. But the IF is a big one given his inconsistency. We definately need to recruit a solid centre half who isn't injury prone.1 point
-
But if he stays he only has 2 years left and if he does not sign a contract extension the money we will get for him will drop drastically next year, if he was on a 3 or 4 year contract I would agree to keep hold of him he is absolutely brilliant but he is not and after the Goldson saga and Aribo leaving for alot less than we could have received because he was not tied down makes me think we should cash in if a player does not want to sign a contract with 2 years left we need to stop letting players run down their contracts.1 point
-
If Bassey leaves we need another left sided CB and LB or one player of his mould who can play both positions1 point
-
No. He's played a few times for Bayern Munich, including CL matches.1 point
-
Not necessarily. It could be an option to tender a fee for the seller to accept, reject or negotiate on exclusively ahead of any other potential buyer.1 point

Win the league. Either Champions League group stage or Europa league after Christmas. Domestic cups don't matter as usual.1 point

Doubt it. A large percentage of the paedo supporting filth have based their entire existence on this crap.1 point

Who has gone silent since then. Trying to get more info out of him but he is remaining tight-lipped for the moment 😀 Would be good to hear how the negotiations with Kent and Alfie are going over their new contracts and if Bassey is likely to leave. Will keep at him for more info'!1 point

Is there another city in the world where the ruling party of the city council do not have a single supporter of the city's biggest club?1 point

Excited by that signing, especially as there is the option to buy. With the pace of Motondo and Kent on either side, it can make the world of a difference to have guys with good vision and passing ability in the middle.1 point

Been confirmed by Rangers that we have an "exclusive option to buy"1 point

The VAR booth can only suggest...they cannot override a referee. When the likes of Father Clancy jab that knife in our neck again, despite VAR suggestions, people are gonna lose their shit.1 point

It’s all right. My expectations have been low every season since 1965/66 apart from the Gazza/Laudrup years and Advocaat’s spell pre O’Neil.1 point

That doesn't half focus the mind....funny how many ways there are to see it ..... Kent - Colak - Wright Lundstram - Jack - Lowrie Bassey - Souttar - Goldson - Tavernier McLaughlin Subs: Kamara, Morelos, Hagi, Arfield, Barisic, Helander, King, Sands, Lawrence, Sakala, McCrorie1 point

Roofe, Helander, Itten and Simpson need to go. I think we'll just go ahead and keep Bassey. Absolutely no reason to go punting him just yet. Send the loanees back and promote some youth players. Should allow GVB some wiggle room for his own signings.1 point
