Glasgow City Council's Policy Advisor and PRO to Convenor, Susan Aitken is Falls Road born and bred, Gerry Braiden. Gerry is a former Herald Journo, he left Herald Towers when the SNP won the majority of the Council seats four years past. A lot of the troubles Rangers have had with the council over establishing a Fan Zone, the Loving Cup ceremony every New Year, the formation of both Ibrox and Cessnock Residents Associations, ........................ etc are down to Gerry advising his fellow Sellik supporters like Councillor David McDonald. I wonder what Gerry's advice to the SNP ruling party was, on the matter of awarding Rangers a civic reception on the Club's 150th anniversary? Still, it is good to know the city Council acknowledging a 150 year unbroken history.3 points

Who has gone silent since then. Trying to get more info out of him but he is remaining tight-lipped for the moment 😀 Would be good to hear how the negotiations with Kent and Alfie are going over their new contracts and if Bassey is likely to leave. Will keep at him for more info'!3 points

We don't know how he will come back after his spell out either. It's a real shame because there is potential for a cracking player there. It wasnt until he was out I started to appreciate what he offered, just gave us something different at times. Hopefully Matondo Lawrence Tillman etc will provide some of that3 points

Hagi won't be back until later in the year, so we need players in there now.3 points

If this has an option to buy, then I'd be delighted to add him to our squad.3 points

Tillman official. one year loan with option to buy. Rangers official Twitter2 points

Some quotes below, “Tillman started turning heads two years ago, when he smashed in 13 goals over 17 games for Bayern Munich’s Under-19s. He was then similarly prolific for Germany’s Under-21s in recent months, scoring three goals in four games since his debut in October 2021. Yet, by his own admission, he is not a born goalscorer. Tillman has repeatedly insisted that he is more comfortable playing a little deeper in the No. 8 and No. 10 roles. At 6-foot-2, he is strong on the ball and tough to dispossess. Youth coaches have praised his intelligent distribution and Tillman himself has said that he aspires to play like Paul Pogba — but then again, who doesn’t?” “I think he’s an attacking midfielder in a 3-4-2-1, he could be a pocket winger in a 4-3-3, could be a center mid in a 4-3-3, depending on if he can get his defensive work up to it,” Berhalter said in a press conference last week about this camp’s roster. “But he’s really talented between the lines, really natural with scoring goals, good and calm around the penalty box. Good technique, good with both feet, so a really interesting player.” In other parts of the article it was talking about his goalscoring ability. Encouraging stuff!2 points

Needs an option to buy IMO or we are just blocking Lowrys path to the 1st team. Although Lowry can play wide too.2 points

Central-attacking midfield, yes. He actually reminds me of Aribo: good close-control, but looks like he likes to play balls through more than Aribo ever did.2 points

Saying Goldson is solid is nonsense. Must be 15 goals he cost us last season, including in the Europa final, OF games etc. 1 good season and the rest littered with regular mistakes. Katic has a lot to learn, but is much younger, cheaper, and with greater potential to improve and cut out the errors. Of course he may not kick on and improve but I hope he does. Just like I hope Goldson can recover the form of 20/21 when he certainly was much improved, only to revert to type last season. Just my opinion, I appreciate it is not one shared by SG or a lot of my fellow bears, but that’s what these forums are for.2 points

Buying out their contract would cost the same as keeping them around. If no one wants to buy them, they'll be going nowhere. The most disappointing thing is, Helander, Jack and Roofe are three of our best players.2 points
-
That really is nonsense. Katic has a great desire but his positional sense is questionable and he has a tendency to rush in unnecessarily. I'm not Goldson's biggest fan but he is a very solid defender.2 points

Rangers are to be honoured by Glasgow City Council with a civic reception to celebrate their 150th birthday. Appropriately, 150 players, officials, former players and former directors have been invited to the City Chambers on July 27. It comes four months after the club marked the period in 1872 when the club was formed in the west end of the city when they faced Aberdeen on March 2. There was also a legends match at Ibrox and dinner when former Rangers stars like Barry Ferguson, Ronald de Boer, Michael Mols, Jorg Albertz and Paul Gascoigne - as well as boss Gio van Bronckhorst - took on a team of foreign heroes that included Luis Figo, Kaka, Robert Pires, Gheorghe Hagi and Ibrox assistant Roy Makaay. Lord Provost Jaqueline McLaren told Scottish Express Sport: ”Glasgow is recognised across the world as a great sporting city – and a huge part of that is down to its long love affair with football. “Over the last 150 years, Rangers has been one of the sport’s most storied names – and I’m very happy to welcome current players and staff to the City Chambers to mark not only this anniversary but the club’s place in the city’s own history.” A month ago Rangers received a celebratory reception by the Secretary of State for Scotland Alister Jack, at an official event at Dover Hall in Whitehall. Managing Director Stewart Robertson said: “We are very honoured and grateful to have been invited by the Secretary of State for Scotland to this very special event to mark the 150th anniversary of Rangers Football Club. “I believe it speaks volumes for the contribution Rangers has made to our nation in a positive sense over these years that the club is being recognised in this manner, and we look forward to promoting the good name of Rangers even further this evening to invited guests from across the political spectrum, as well as wider society.” https://www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk/sport/football/rangers-honoured-glasgow-city-council-274877701 point

Is there another city in the world where the ruling party of the city council do not have a single supporter of the city's biggest club?1 point

I know after Michael Jackson's performance blowing Bubbles, everything pales. However, West Ham are out guests and I feel we are obliged to ensure a degree of comfort for the visiting cockney sparras. May I suggest a balaclava'd Martin Compston blowing Bubbles? I am sure Martin will go down as well as he goes down. Further, it is a win win, Rangers facilitating Martin's rehabilitation.1 point

Don't have much to go on but I think he looks like a very promising attacking midfielder. Very good technically and as @Rousseausays an ability to play through balls that I’m not sure anyone we currently have. Its been said of him that he is very strong too and can contribute defensively, so can play as an 8 and not sure a 10. Big caveats are that at this stage he hasn't really played much senior football so we don't have any data on him. It's a promising sign that Bayern gave him a few league appearances (75 mins once), they would only play the youngsters they rated highest.1 point

Tillman is an exciting prospect, but a project just lile Aribo. Option to buy is good business sense. Could we pull a rabbit out the hat with a further signing? Hopefully not dependent on Bassey's potential departure.1 point
-
Do you think he will compliment Hagi or compete with Hagi?1 point
-
If the Bassey interest is real and the bid realistic, then get this deal done asap. Don't let it drag out, nor subsequent incomings. Try and have it behind us before we get to the competitive games. CLGS qualification is a financial game changer and we need to give ourselves the best possible chance.1 point
-
Correct, he’s the one player we can and should sell high.1 point
-
Aribo was in the last year of his contract and has been a steady improver during his time with us. Bassey has two years left and went from being a bit part player to a star in one season. He is one player we should be trying to get a premium fee for, especially if Ajax and a few EPL clubs are interested.1 point
-
Agree. We don’t spend big on players, have a weak position year on year financially and sold Aribo for far less than expected. As much as we all want to see this 25 million for Bassey - it’s not happening.1 point
