Good to see you back on the site, mate. We made losses of £22m in 2021 and £16m in 2020, so with the European run, the sale of Paterson and the Gerrard compensation, we hopefully made a small profit in 2022. However for the 22/23 season we are potentially looking at a loss close to £10m even after accounting for the guaranteed European group stages, and that has to be funded, partly through last season's (hopefully) profit and player sales. It's presumed that the funding from the directors has finished, or will only be loans going forward so we don't have that as we had over the last 5 or so years. In short, we are still inherently loss making, and will need to fund it through player sales. We're not in danger of going out of business but we'll probably not be able to invest a proportion of any player sales. The new FFP rules could also make it more difficult for us. We're not skint, but we still have watch every penny.6 points

Gazza, Welcome back, good news for the Gersnet community. Reference the six year absence, who can tall the difference between a 15 year old Filipino girl and a 16 year old? Further, I thought that Judge was at it when he gave you such a lengthy custodial sentence. Reference club finances; the parameters are the Kerrydale Accountants who continue to have quite an input on the media narrative and, the very occasional cautious piece in the better broadsheets.4 points

Nice sign off. Best of luck to Aribo, he's got the potential to be a top class player and I hope he fulfills it.2 points

I've turned the sound off - combination of our commentary team and the annoying SAFC fans 😀1 point

Add in unknowns in terms of the sports direct settlement and no doubt increased edmiston house building costs.1 point

The window is certainly looking better than it did at the start of the week. Just goes to show it's a bit daft getting flustered about things too early.1 point

Would have been helpful if the club did a half year statement but I don’t think we’ve done so for a couple of years.1 point

I'm not wanting to know our finances down to the penny, just a good estimate from someone who has links.1 point

I think it's far more likely that no one can answer your question. How do you guess, for example, forward debt policy or what the board has decided on cash reserves or provision for capital expenditure or bonuses & dividend or depreciation or a host of other things. We can't know the crucial fine-print terms of the payment schedule in player contracts and its impact on cash flow. The yahoos will always invent their own facts to cover up their fear that Rangers might be successful. They wear Sevco like a security blanket and cling to our previous financial woes like a religious icon. Sad bastarts.1 point

Rumoured fee for Matondo is 2 million which sounds a steal as Schalke paid 11 million for him.1 point

But but but where is bankrupt Sevco getting this money from?1 point

I've watched a couple of Youtube clips, so I'm now an expert on Matondo. Matondo reminds me of Diallo: pace, skill and trickery, can beat a man with ease, but doesn't know what to do with the ball at the end of the move. I think that's relatively easy to improve upon, though, with coaching and games.1 point

I would agree with your first point. We are not in the best negotiating position. Even worse when you allow contracts to run down. What gets me is the apparent lack of firm interest in some of our better players in the last couple of years. Other than a generally depressed market, I don't really understand it. We appear to have been limited as to what we could ask for Aribo. Although, the reported 60/40 split between fee/add-ons is disappointing, 80/20 would have been more just IMO.1 point

Romano on Twitter reporting Aribo to Saints a done deal. Announcement later today. Rangers review seem to think we have a decent sell on fee. Fingers crossed for a big season in the EPL for Joe and a 40 million move next summer.1 point

No, both clubs are not going to have the same player. However, there is plenty to back up what I said. It might be unpalatable but to think otherwise is to live a lie. Look through the fees both clubs have taken in for players in the last few years. Look through the player trading figures in the balance sheets. Listen to our own club repeatedly talking about the need to develop the player trading model when over the city it has been up and running for years. Their 'brand' as a selling club is established, they ask for and get relatively premium prices. We aren't there yet. We have brought players to the club and increased their value. We have tended to keep them, rather than sell them at an optimal time from a financial POV. Here there is a debate to be had regards what can be earned on the pitch through the players efforts compared to outgoing transfers. The emphasis with how the club have continually talked about the player trading model shows IMO its importance and the new UEFA financial rules will make that all the more important. But we need to act on it and not only talk about it. Bassey's value is high at the moment and if possible, we need to cash in. The profile of players joining the club is important. What we have seen so far this summer, is a clutch of talented youngsters for the B team, an injury prone 25 year old and two 28 year olds. Look at the age profile of the players joining our rivals,...24, 24, 21, 23, 30 (backup keeper). Over the years we have often brought in experience and it sometimes works for us on the pitch. However, our business model hasn't worked and we typically rack up an important financial loss. It has been the same for as long as I can remember, since balance sheets were talked about as much as the football. That needs to change.1 point

No offense to Roofe, when healthy he is very good...WHEN he is healthy. Having stated that...would you buy that guy? I wouldn't. I think we may have to let his contract run out...same as Helander...really good CB but that injury bug...1 point

I think we also need to bear in mind when looking at the overall summer spend that the likes of Lawrence will no doubt have negotiated a sign-on fee and/or higher wages since he's a free agent.1 point

What these signings do do dodoo is strengthen areas of the pitch in which we are quite light, for next to nothing. In that regard, I'm happy. However, let me whinge! I just don't like the profile of these guys. Hopefully we sign some guys with the correct profile - and then I'll be quite content with these guys.1 point
