  1. I wouldn't want to be a low level paper gatherer at the SPFL this afternoon. The air conditioning will be on full in some offices...

  2. Still a long way to go in the window but I have reservations about how the squad is shaping up, whilst hoping they are dismissed come said window slamming shut. As it stands IMO, there are too many players who will have to be managed because of age or chronic injury problems. I'd also mention the changes in backroom staff, eg. Doctor. I hope money is spent in this because we will need people who know what they are doing. McGregor Souttar Helander Jack Davis Arfield Ofoborh Roofe I think the optics of resigning a 40 year old keeper who is extremely suspect at set-plays and isn't going to get any better whilst apparently letting go a promising 24 year old because of this doesn't make much sense.

  3. I think it was a mistake to renew McGregor's contract.

  4. The bottom line is we have a very good squad when everyone is fit , we don’t have a very strong squad when 5 or 6 key players are unfit . We do not need a rebuild unless 3 or 4 first team players are sold , but we do need options upfront to replace Itten , wide right and a goal threat from midfield , any more than that any players like Lowry simply won’t get game time , if anything we could do with getting rid of a few more first .

  5. The only negative is that we might want to change our number one keeper while McGregor is still there as experienced cover in case his replacement doesn’t live up to expectations.

  6. I think the issue with McGregor is more his inability to command the box than his age. It's a cause for concern whenever a decent cross comes in. He still makes some great saves but the blunders are increasing.

  7. This is a fair point however this story came from Chris Jack who is probably more reliable than most in the mainstream media.

  10. Not a huge fan of the Colak link. Would prefer a younger player if it’s as a backup, and a far better player if it’s to start.

  11. It still amazes me, yet never surprises me the need Rangers fans have for a scapegoat????, anyway I'm off to bed for work tomorrow.

  12. You could also say he saved a few that no one could be expected to save. Clearly, his time is coming to an end and we need his replacement between the sticks but I just don’t think we can deny his new contract on the basis of last season

  13. Of course! I'm ok with him re-signing as I believe he has at least another season in him, and I think he as. All about opinions and that is what makes the game of football brings.

  14. Sorry but if you’re going to judge on rare individual examples then you’re selling the entire first team squad

  15. It's a team game mate! all players make blunders! the reluctance to McGregor re-signing is bizarre IMO.

  16. Ten years ago Allan McGregor was just as poor coming for high balls and his distribution from feet was just as erratic. He remains an outstanding shot stopper. Seems to me the reluctance to extend his contract is a fear of the future rather than based on anything we’ve actually seen.

  17. I am quite astonished why a lot of Rangers fans are so against McGregor re-signing? it reeks of ageism IMO! McGregor has just finished an incredible personal season with some excellent performances, which could be argued without his performances we would never have reached the EL final. Why would any Rangers fan want him replaced just because of his age? he is the best keeper we have,(and has been throughout his career). This lust for change just for the sake of it is bizarre! if we can replace any player with better quality then I am all for it, however he is the best keeper at the club and the fact that the boss wants him to continue says it all really! unless Rangers fans know better?. If he was 30 instead of 40 would you be happy for him to re-sign based on his performances?.

  18. The 'high flying' provincial clubs care enough to have commissioned their own review on revenue raising (IIRC). However, when you have any opposition divided into sub groups. It is easier for the SPFL executive to avoid a meaningful collective scrutiny. People baulk at bridge building but not doing so has consequences.

  19. Aye, Luton. He was the Nottingham Forest manager and someone called Brian Clough took over from him.

  20. Rangers wanted to sign him and bring him back to Scotland. Scot Symon had been his manager at East Fife during their 'glory years' and wanted him at Ibrox.

  22. Yes, I think everything you read about our transfer intentions/activity is speculation. It's disappointing that we as a support still seem to look to a clearly-uninformed media to provide useful information. Old habits die hard I guess.

  23. hmmm, doesn't want to 'waste another season on the bench' but happy to move to Manchester United? I guess he won't sit on the bench there, more in the stands...

  24. A loan would be sensible for him. If he has a good year away on loan he has a good shout of getting the #1 jersey next season. McGregor surely wont continue and no guarantee McLaughlin is up to it.

  27. Never saw him play except on newsreel but read plenty and heard radio commentaries on the international matches (Peter Thomson and Raymond Glendenning) Your uncle was always rated in the press reports. Got his caps when other inside forward options were available - Steel, Hamilton, Turnbull, Wardhaugh, Johnstone. Wealth of talent and none played for Rangers or celtic. Scored against Rangers in East Fife’s League Cup semi-final victory. Every family has its black sheep.

  28. Tom English should be encouraged to pen an article before and after the full and frank SPFL response. Before, including a list of questions that stakeholders may be interested in knowing the answers to. The immediate SPFL response was so full of absolute shiney guff that they needed to add the 'more to come when permitted' paragraph. I have my doubts that day will ever come and if pushed, an empty damp squib would follow. How much money was wasted on a pointless legal battle ? Who decided to go with it and will take responsibility for it ? Then there is the deal with Cinch itself and all the fineprint, etc., etc.... Chris McLaughlin, the man who always provides, not only the story but ends with a verbal editorial summary as to the truth of the matter. ....He was prolific back in the day with his direct line to Jack 'toxic' Irvine, eventually leading to him being shown the door at Ibrox and where we are now.

  29. Buster, You are correct reference Tom English and the SPFL Committee. When the story broke reference Cinch at the end of last week, English took to Twitter to slaughter both MacLennan and Doncaster. What does BBC Scotland's Chief Sports Correspondent, Chris McLaughlin say? I suspect we will have to wait until MacLennan and Doncaster tell him what to say.
