  1. You can also look at it this way: we've shat it in the league, but still get a shot at the CL because of our good European performances.

  2. I remember Davie Wilson clearly as a player and what a player he was. But it was many years after he hung up his boots that I met the man behind the legend. For a number of years Davie hosted our Club Deck hospitality box and over the period I chatted to him many times, both round the table and watching whatever game was on. My abiding memory is of a humble, respectful and engaging man who was instantly likeable and who represented Rangers with enormous pride. I think Davie was one of those truly genuine people who was comfortable in his own skin and a pleasure to know. I haven't seen him for years now but feel huge sadness to hear of his passing. One of the very best, heaven's gain.

  3. My first Old Firm match at Celtic Park was the 1st January'66. It had been freezing the entire Christmas - New Year week and, as was customary for Celtic at that time, they covered the pitch in hay bails. The game was on, the pitch was rock hard and frozen on top. Davie Wilson skated through the opposition to put Rangers one up in the first minute. Half time was the same score. In the second half, three of the Sellik players, John Hughes included changed their footwear to baseball boots. They ran in five unchallenged to run out 5-1 winners. However, the scene of Davie Wilson running arm aloft, backdropped by a dozen hay bales continues.

  4. An uncle married a dame Wallonne. Wonderful lady but otherwise, I share your prejudice.

  5. Our record in CL qualifying doesn't make good reading, so I'm generally quite pessimistic, regardless of being seeded or not. The teams we're likely to face will be decent enough.

  6. Have fond memories of Davy--the day he ran into me when he scored V Third Lanark(was sitting on pitch due to crowd overflow) and the night I had him in my flat when he was selling insurance--a true gentleman and legend. RIP Davy.

  7. Sad to hear. I recall when i was around 10yr old travelling on the Airdrie to Glasgow train my grandad pointed out that sitting across from us was Davie Wilson explaining who he was and how good a player he still was. He obviously overheard and commented that my grandad was exaggerating and that he was never THAT good, it wasn't until later in life that i found out for myself that my grandad never exaggerated and that he was in fact a true Rangers legend. RIP Davie.

  9. In the third qualifying round, Rangers will face one of: Monaco, Sturm Graz, Union Saint-Gilloise and the winner of the match involving Midtjylland who will play either Fenerbahce and AEK Larnaca. In the play-off round, the most likely opponents will be PSV Eindhoven or Dynamo Kyiv, or whoever progresses from the matches involving those sides in the third qualifying round. It's not impossible, but Monaco and PSV could prove tricky.

  10. I feel slightly better approaching CL qualification under GvB, who I think is a more thoughtful and considered manager ... as opposed to Gerrard's more intuitive and emotional leadership style. The challenge will be to acquire and integrate new signings in time to help us reach to group stage.

  11. Our seeding in particular has given us a great shot at qualification because we are seeded for both rounds.

  12. My user name suggests otherwise but Davie Wilson was the best all round winger I ever saw for Rangers. Read his book if you can get it.

  13. A player before my time but I've heard enough about him to know he was held in high regard.

  14. Had the pleasure of meeting Davie a few times over the years and he was always an absolute gentleman. It's been a dreadful last 12 months or so in losing club legends. Thoughts with Davie's friends and family.

  16. You`ll find the answer in the OP. New rumours / signings etc. are in bold, I usually wait till some semi-reliable source confirms it. Hence there might be a 24/48-hour delay.
