A BIG FOKKER. This thread is now running into for a fifth year and it's time to remember as Rangers supporters we pay our license fees to receive a service from BBC Scotland. A Europa League tie between Borussia Dortmund and Rangers is big news for Scottish football. Two games home and away and BBC Scotland's Sports News Correspondent, Chris McLaughlin and BBC Scotland's Chief Football Writer, Tom English have collectively written not a word. Comparatively little has been broadcast either. Both games coincided with Sellik's entry into the European Conference League, two games home and away against Norwegians, Bodo Glimp received live commentary from Liam McLeod with Pat Bonner and James McFadden adding colour. BBC Radio Scotland was, "right across events at the Rangers games' ie Richard Gordon and Richard Foster view a monitor in a studio and make occasional comments. Borussia Dortmund were favourites for the Europa League, they sit second in the Bundesliga and, they travel everywhere in their own liveried Airbus aeroplane. From memory, Rangers have faced Borussia in European competition on four previous occasions and only lost the one tie. Sellik were bullish on the Conference tie, they were in it to win it, going all the way. Bodo were from inside the Arctic Circle, a town's population ten thousand less than the Stade de Gadd's capacity. The first games were played, Rangers kicked-off early in Germany and the 2-4 victory was quickly dismissed in favour of live commentary under the disco lights at Sellik Park. After a 1-3 defeat, BBC Radio Scotland was off air at ten O'Clock. The next day and the day after was radio silence, no mention on BBC Scotland TV either. Saturday had a full list of fixtures but again no mention. Sunday saw Rangers visit Tannadice and PQ spirits picked up. A 1-1 draw had United's centre back, Ross Graham eulogised and his partner, Charlie Mulgrew lionised for telling BBC Scotland's interviewer that Rangers penalty claims were, "made up". Sellik defeated bottom of the table, Dundee 3-2 at Parkhead and the Dee's penalty claim in the last minute was not discussed. Monday's TV news carried footage of both games with the strap line, "Celtic move further ahead". Thursday saw a reversal, ra Sellik live commentary up first. PQ's favourites fielded a weakened team and McLeod, Bonner and, McFadden lauded Ange's expediency for prioritising the league over Europe. Whatever happened to in it to win it? Sellik were out of Europe for the third time in one season having been vanquished 5-1 on aggregate. Across events at Ibrox was up next and Richard Gordon groaned at the penalty award. Half-time was quite perky, Dortmund were leading 1-2. BIG Dick was happier when McFadden said, "Dortmund have got the second, it will be whatever they want it to be". It took thirty seconds for Big Dick to announce the equaliser, stuttering whilst viewing, hoping for an offside. The game finished 6-4 on aggregate to Rangers at 21.53hrs, BBC Radio Scotland's football coverage was finished at one minute to ten. BBC Scotland's news the next day(Friday) did show the Rangers goals and told the result but no discussion. The draw against Red Star was reported but no discussion. It is Saturday and BBC Radio Scotland have Off the Ball with RAB and Cowan opining the money spent by traveling Yahoos to visit the Arctic Circle, only to be confronted by a reserve team. Cowan praised the atmosphere at Ibrox and congratulated Rangers on the result. RAB Cosgrove stated, "Yep" and they moved on. There is another BBC Scotland production on football, 'A View from the Terrace'. It is a one hour show with an eclectic take. I like it, the Host, Craig Telfer is a Stenhousemuir fan, the panelists are taken from a grouping including Craig Fowler(Jambo), Joel Sked(Jambo), Robert Borthwick(Jambo), Shaughan McGuigan(Raith Rovers), Robert Thewliss(Well), ....... The Producer is David Harron(Jambo). Promoting Scottish football is the show's raison d'etre, at all levels. Two shows straddling the tie and they don not mention the games, we would not know the tie took place. They did mention Bodo Glimt and they spent several minutes continuing the lionisation of Charlie Mulgrew and Dundee United's, "Dee-lightful defending against Rangers". As stated, the tie was a BIG FOKKER for Scottish football and for PQ to arrive eventually at a passive state at best will be remembered. A View from the Terrace to entirely ignore the tie is as a result of pressure from Production. These several paragraphs are a record proving posterity will not be kind to BBC Scotland.6 points

@26th of foot I thank you once again for another informative post. I most certainly wouldn't want to discourage you from posting and really, no one knows whether things will change in another 5 years or not. The point is the BBC is a public funded organisation that should be held to account. This thread, now contains a wealth of factual information to the blatant inequality in sports reporting between Rangers and the rest of the SPFL. I for one applaud for your tenacity, fortitude and excellent good humour in continuing to update those Gersnet members like myself who are interested in the machinations of the PQ inner sanctum. Keep up the great work!👏 PS Just for the record, I think I and most others on here, have got the (repeated) message about the "quick fix" solution of not paying the licence fee. Thank you. But, for some, it runs a bit deeper than that.4 points

Just rewatched the match and confused why Borna received so many negative comments....would like someone to tell me what his failings were last night?3 points

Only Barasic, Jack (looked injured to me, was a half yard off most of the game) and the truly awful Goldson (how many more times must he cost us goals before something is done?) were below par last night, the rest were fantastic but the captain produced a real captain's performance and is deserving of the MOTM award. Bassey's assist for the second goal will live with me a long time, it was a beautiful piece of skill for a big man to create the half yard to put the cross in. Could watch that over and over again (and i have!). Kent's 2 performances must have been noticed by bigger and richer teams than us, and his value has soared as a result. You could say the same for Alfie probably as well.3 points

I don't want to discourage your posts but I wouldn't be surprised to return in five years to see that nothing has changed. The general approach of complaining about, or mocking, a double standard will not make one bit of difference. The only way to get value for your money is to stop paying the television licence.2 points

Your joke is going way too far,my nightmares over him are horrific and would not like to re-visit them.☠️2 points

I fail to see what the starry-eyed fuss is about over someone who has had perhaps two dozen good games for Rangers since he arrived in 2018. The fact he's been so easily eclipsed by Calvin Bassey should tell you all you need to know about Borna's abilities and attitude. He doesn't have anything like the mental toughness to play for Rangers on a consistent basis and has now joined the list of players beaten by the challenge. It's a contrivance to think we would be worse off if he moved on - I can't imagine it would be difficult to replace him. Harsh perhaps but clearly true.2 points

Quite. But maybe because certain companies in this country finance their weaponry?1 point

First half wasn't great but the team certainly delivered after half-time and you could easily pick from several players again. Kent, Morelos, Jack, Tav and Balogun were all immense during that period and helped us grab the win but I'm going for big Calvin Bassey who despite once again being moved out of position during the game, did a fantastic job out on the left hand side. Where Barisic struggled to get us forward, Bassey wasn't afraid to take the ball and use his physique and no small skill to beat his man and create uncertainty for the Germans. What a diamond we've found!1 point

Why the lack of calls for Saudi Arabia and Iran to be banned from all sports during the ongoing conflict in Yemen? 🤔1 point

I'll pick him up and drive him back to Ibrox myself,..i'll pick up Josh Windass on the way too 😉 .1 point

I thought it was foolish of Ange talking of winning the Conference League before they had even played a game in it. After all, while Celtic dropped down from the bigger boys league, so did another 7 teams, so why they thought they were better than everyone else defies logic. Ange has been around enough to know you don't make daft predictions like that because it's likely that it will come back to bite you. Ange is not daft but maybe it's expected from the fans that they bum themselves up and Ange has gone along with this. As an aside, I see that of the teams dropping into the Conference play off, only 3 of them won the tie, so maybe Celtic were not alone in underestimating the opposition. In the Europa League, Rangers were 1 of 3 who defeated Champions League drop outs.1 point

Borna is a class player, who is going through a bad spell. He's the very definition of a confidence player, us howling abuse at him will do nothing to help that. What a fickle lot we are.1 point

Hard to disagree with any of the candidates in this thread. Quite a few came to the fore in he second half after Gio's tactical switch, namely Kent, Morelos, Bassey & Balogun. Must make mention of Aribo's 5 clearing headers from corners in the period when we were really under the German cosh. Great defensive work. Poor guy looks worn out though, badly needing a rest imo. In summary, it has to be the captain. Sometimes pilloried but never hides. Showed his true qualities and led by example with 2 fantastic goals. Tavernier for me!1 point

Every player involved deserves great credit for defeating Dortmund over the 2 legs. A top German and top CL team who we matched and eventually outperformed. Last night belonged to Tav1 point
-
He easily could have but it was always going to be Tavernier. Rather than his individual performance, what I saw was Lundstrum's partnership with Jack and the sheer workload they got through covering spaces. It's not just what they do with the ball that wins games and our defensive midfield is like night and day compared with the final days under Gerrard.1 point
-
Lundstrum a tad unlucky not to make your list of standouts but very much agree with this.1 point
-
Once again our new midfield partnership got through an absolute storm of work and that was no small contribution from McGregor either. In fact it would be a lot quicker to note who didn't shine last night but the standouts were surely Balogun, Bassey, Kent, Morelos and Tavernier. It would be wrong to opt for anyone but the captain as MOTM on this occasion. That was real leadership last night. And what a night it was.1 point
-
Morelos and Kent were the 2 that performed throughout the game. I'm going for Morelos as he battled away so bravely on his own and largely dominated the much taller Hummels and was always an out for us, and did superbly at the third "goal".1 point

Like last week could have been two or three. Has to be Tav for me. Ended up about 3 rows down when the 2nd goal went in1 point

Half a dozen times a month, I help out my Nephew and his partner by taking their 4 year old daughter to Nursery. I love her but she can be a bit of a Madam. I was listening to BBC Radio Scotland's Sports Desk this morning and the first thing that struck me was, 'the line' has NOT been established. I was getting her out the car seat when the second Sports Desk began and the semblance of, 'the line' appeared, "of course Borussia Dortmund are not the team they once were". I missed who said it and a crisis had arisen with the merits of melon over chocolate buttons to get one through a day at Nursery. BBC Scotland are always moaning about folks not taking every opportunity to talk up the Scottish game, but Rangers winning away in Dortmund needs serious time(is there enough time) to find any degree of comfort. Anyways, 'the line' will be found. I await long time Journo, Hugh MacDonald's take - he and family are long term Borussia Dortmund supporters, regular attendees at the Westfalenstadion these last dozen years. Reference the Curling at the Winter Olympics, RAB Cosgrove was spitting venom at the weekend. He noted all Curlers attending are Scots, why are the not representing Scotland? It's like Rangers, fellow countrymen and women performing well but not worthy of support because of the colours being worn.1 point
