  1. Beating Hearts on Sunday is paramount. Playing Lyon is an opportunity to experiment and test players.

  2. Congrats to McLaughlin. He is far more assured with the ball at his feet IMO. McGregor would have hoofed 80% of those passes coming back to him tonight.

  3. It’s easy to get carried away with Gio’s impact after only a few games and forget that Gerrard worked miracles up until this season, but there’s little doubt that Gio has improved us significantly in the short term at least. I really hope he can keep it up, so many positives to take from his first 3 weeks in charge.

  5. As was shown at the end of 5he game. Patterson has a brilliant future for club and country but has a bit to go to dispose of our Captain and our main attacking threat. Hopefully we can focus on the game, the positives we can take out of it as well as the subtle changes Gio has introduced into the formation, rather than another Tav v Patterson debate.

  6. Seriously? You’re comparing someone who hasn’t had a game in ages with someone who’s benefited from playing week after week?

  7. Hope this puts to bed the whole Tavernier debate. Paterson is the future but the idea that he will just fit in as he is the finished article was dispelled tonight IMO. Some really good stuff from the young man but also some naive play at times.

  8. Lyon have been a total let down domestically. The managers coat may be on a shaky peg. I expect them to rest and rotate heavily and focus on their league game at the weekend. Wonder if Dembele Dollars will play, he has barely made an appearance this year. The manager preferring to play attacking midfielders and wingers up front over him. I expect us to rotate and keep key assets available for Sunday.

  9. The Hearts match is definitely of more importance, but the €570,000 and 2 coefficient points that come with a Europa League win are not to be sniffed at. Probably more dosh than you get for winning the Scottish Cup.

  10. Tonight's draw takes up to 39rh in the coefficient standings - unreal achievement https://kassiesa.net/uefa/data/method5/trank2022.html

  11. Pretty pleased with that overall. As has been said I thought Barasic was pretty good again tonight defensively and I do agree re TAV/NP I think tonight showed NP still has a bit to go. Aribo made a difference when he came on. We had to hold frim under real pressure at times in the second half and some of the play from the back was really good. Bring on Hearts

  12. It's one game and he had plenty of positives in his game tonight.

  17. We've got an interesting switch in formation going on: a 4-2-3-1 without the ball, then a 4-3-3 in possession, with Lundstram (or Kamara) moving forward. Quite brave, because it requires an ability to keep the ball when we have it. We're struggling to get good possession in the final third, but I've felt that with better quality/decision-making we could have grabbed a goal.

  20. I'll be amazed if McGregor travels to France, i'd be happy enough with McLaughlin & McCrorie for this game. I'd prefer to give McCrorie the game actually. The lack of defensive cover means Goldson Bassey & Borna all need to play when i'd prefer to rest Borna and leave Goldson behind to get his agent to line up a new club for 4 weeks time. The next 3-4 weeks decide the title, so take no chances with a dead rubber game, and ensure we are rested, fired up and ready to take on the Jambos at a traditionally very hard fixture, followed by 3 home games by Boxing day then the double scum away trips before the break. We certainly cannot afford any injuries to our key players so why risk them with nothing to gain? McCrorie Patterson Goldson Bassey Barasic Bacuna Jack Lundstrum Wright Roofe Sakala I dont for a minute think GVB will make as many changes as the above side would be, and while I'll be watching the game tomorrow but even if we lose by a big margin I wont care a jot as long as we pick up no injuries. Our job was done in this group in our 2 home games and the point gained in Denmark, and even at our absolute best we may come up short in Lyon as they are a good side, so I just dont see the need to take unnecessary risks.

  21. The return to form of Borna Barisic is a huge bonus. I honestly thought he had played his last decent game for Rangers but the arrival of GvB seems to have lifted him

  22. It's a brilliant headache for the manager to have and it'll be a topic that will be debated until one of them leaves! Bassey has been very good in centre of defence but thought his inexperience showed at their goal, not slating the lad, as he is another one with a huge future for us. Keeper position is also an interesting debate as Greegs has rediscovered his form but J Mc showed tonight his distribution is top class and what is required at this level. Looks like Gio still trying to work out how best to fit in our attacking players. Kent and Aribo both automatic starters in my opinion and best two players at the club. Plenty to be excited about IMO

  23. Agreed. Apologies for bringing it to the fore again. Just feel we are too quick to almost write players off these days.

  32. Thought we showed them far too much respect 1st time round. I think well take something from the game.

  33. I'd be a lot more worried about Sunday if Gerrard was still here. GvB knows what he's doing. Tonight is all about giving Lyon a good game, giving a good account of ourselves and getting some fringe players on the park.

  34. That wouldn't surprise me. Even if he returns to full fitness this season he may not be able to hold down a place in the first team. It's not a matter of quality either. It's just that his injury record may well rule him out for any contract extension. In that case the manager wouldn't be blamed for prioritising players that will be there next season.

  35. True but if the £40 million figure reported for Champions League qualification is accurate then I would still prioritise the Hearts match way ahead of Lyon.

  38. Many years ago there was a match at old Trafford a meaningless game and someone asked the manager Busby about today's tactics ah just go out and turn it on and enjoy yourself , we should get some of the younger lads out there and tell the similar something like go and make a name for yourselves

  39. Like the appointment of our new management team, this looks and feels like a very positive and forward thinking appointment by Ross Wilson and the club. It almost feels like this is "the next phase" and it's certainly exciting times for us fans of the club.

  41. In general I agree but I also believe we need to try and keep our momentum ahead of a very hard match on Sunday. As such, I'd look for more of a blend of changes and first-teamers: McGregor Patterson Goldson Balogun Bassey Jack Davis Lundstram Wright Roofe Sakala
