  1. Paterson started the match really well and for first 15 minutes was the best player on the park. I think Brighton put a man wide to stop his runs then and he was a bit quieter after that. I watch Paterson and think he should first choice right back, then Tav comes on and you see his crossing and passing and realise that Paterson still has a bit to go to match that. The 11 that ended the match was a lot closer to our probable first choice starting 11 than the 11 who started the match and it showed. As others have said Kelly, Paterson, Itten and Bassey did themselves no harm today, I didn't think Jones took his chance to impress either his current manager or any potential future ones. Brighton are a better side than any we'll face domestically this season. I know better than to read much into friendlies but I know I prefer a goalless draw to a 6-2 hammering a week before the season starts.

  2. Like Cammy I saw a few decent performances namely,Paterson,Bassey,Kelly in first half then in second return of Katic who apart from a couple of stray passes looked like ha had never been away injured. Was great to be there and savour the live atmosphere.

  3. According to the Record Goldson is about to sign a 3 year contract extension

  4. Based on both last week and this week's team selections, Defoe looks to be starting in front of Itten. I hope that's not the case as Itten offers far more against better teams.

  5. Looks like Edmundson is off, having signed a 3-year deal with an as yet unnamed club.

  6. Kelly is a superb passer. His performance and the safe return of Katic the highlights for me.

  7. Signs in the second half that we're getting some of the knots out. Bring on the Spaniards

  8. [HT] 0-0 Poor team performance, with no real control on the game. There were a few good individual performances, though. Kelly, Patterson and Kamara were the pick of the bunch. Itten, while having little service, has put himself about well.

  9. Just saw the away strip on the promotional video and as much as I'm still not sold on it, it looks far better. The flash photography on those first shot highlights the shiny parts and cheapens it. If we are paying tribute to our Govan heritage I would have preferred something like this but with stripes not hoops. The monogram badge looks amazing on these colours IMO. Saying that hoops would really piss them off ???

  10. Still think we need 2 or 3 top players for the step up to CL level. Even if Alfie stays, we need another top class striker. We are so much poorer as a team without Alfie leading the line. But to bring in quality, probably means we need to sell players, so 2 or 3 out (Kamara will be one, don't know who the others will be). Another nice problem SG has, Patterson looks far to good to leave out the team.

  11. Just back from the game and for a 0-0 pre-season friendly,I really enjoyed it. Positives ; Being back at Ibrox. Patterson and Kelly. The return of Nico. More minutes in the tank. Some of our play was nearing our best. Away top looks good. Negatives; The score. Lack of killer instinct. Roll on tomorrow against some team called Real Madrid ?‍♂️?

  12. Have to admit I was kind of hoping Kennedy and Kelly would form part of our first team squad this season (see you later Barker, Jones and Zungu) but I guess I'd be the first person to moan if these younger players struggled across the vital first half of the season. It's not easy to juggle expectations with finances and development. We just have to trust those in charge that know more than most of us...

  13. 0-0 or not, have to admit I quite enjoyed that. We looked a step or two sharper compared to the last fortnight and a variety of players looked to have a wee bit more spark than we've seen in previous games. Tomorrow should offer a different and tougher test though. In terms of individuals, was first & foremost delighted to see Niko Katic back & looking comfortable. Also felt Bassey, Kelly & Itten showed enough quality to suggest they can remain first team options. Vis-à-vis our strongest first XI, there will be more to come ahead of Livi. New signings wise, very early stages for Sakala but you can see the threat he offers whilst Lundstram will definitely grow into being a vital cog in the early part of the season. In general though, it's good to have a settled squad ahead of a vital few weeks at home & in Europe. Excited to see how we fare tomorrow.

  14. FT 0-0. Much better team performance second half, without being effective with the majority of possession. Good work out, though.

  16. Wright's been disappointing this pre-season, hasn't he? Quite quiet.

  17. I like the red and black banded number featured above. I could seeBobby Shearer kitted out in that. No club has a monopoly of that style of shirt. Queens Park wear it stylishly. Partick wore/wear it. Kilmarnock and Dundee United used to wear it. Accies still do as do countless rugby teams. And Forres Mechanics. Maybe not such a good idea after all.

  19. The new home strip is brilliant but all that really matters is that it's the Rangers' strip.

  21. Hahaha! I don't want to know what kind of records you keep! I still think there's little difference between most, if not all, Championship clubs and the bottom half of the SPFL. The difference is the the teams in the SPFL will play against at least 3 or 4 better sides 3 or 4 times during the season, whereas the Championship sides will play against similar quality sides all season long. It's not that I think Dunfermline are significantly poorer than Ross County, I don't. I just think that after spending most of last season at Raith Rovers, a club who play possession based passing football, it was time for him to step up a level or leave. The coaches know more about him than me, I'm just surprised that at 19 they don't think he should be playing at a higher level than the Championship. I expected him to follow the Stephen Kelly model of a season in the Championship then a season the SPFL, like we've done with Ben Williamson. If nothing else a season at SPFL level gives him a bigger shop window and increases any potential fee we could get if we choose to sell him next summer. I guess we have to trust Mulholland and his coaches on this.

  22. Just a wild guess but I think it’s likely this has been designed to appeal to those who are more likely to actually wear it. Not some old farts on Gersnet.

  23. I've dug this out: "The vast majority of sides in the Championship are comparable to half the SPFL, you could swap St Mirren, Ross County and Motherwell with Dundee, Raith Rovers and Dunfermline and see no change in quality." --JohnMc, May 12.
