  1. Wrote this on the Rangers v Arsenal game in 1973 to commemorate Rangers' centenary. https://thelowerthirddotnet.wordpress.com/2021/07/13/friends-reunited-when-rangers-welcomed-arsenal-for-a-centenary-celebration/

  2. After many years (18 I think) of sticking by firstly the RST (was at initial meeting and signed up right away) then it’s successor bodies I have had enough of them and cancelled my 2 monthly dds. We never seem to stop suffering from infighting, cronyism, self-interest, and while many of those who have worked tirelessly and given up huge chunks of their time are unfairly chastised, I feel we are never going to learn. I have signed up to the share issue for the minimum and am happier giving the club my cash directly rather than through the fans vehicle. Really saddened by this thread, especially the letter from the Rev. It seems we will never learn.

  3. "Gerry Braiden is a very good friend of the show" On BBC Radio Scotland's Sunday edition of, 'Off the Ball' Cosgrove announced, "Gerry Braiden is a very good friend of the show". I have related this before, when DrStu' becomes excited, he becomes garrulous. He cannot help himself, he has to name check, feed the listeners bon mots of reflected importance and, tell of his adherence to the crucial pulse. Success has many fathers but letting the listeners know you are the BIG DADDY articulating a meme is an invitation to triumphalism for Cosgrove. Did you know Scots are the only nation expected to view football on TV whilst listening to commentary provided by commentators from a competing nation? The next emotion expressed was banality, "I'm bored rigid with English commentators attempting to squeeze the Euros into a constitutional debate". Swing along the spectrum, resentment bubbled, "it's ridiculous that programmes conceived, edited and, produced outside Scotland are forced upon us". The froth evaporated with, "ah don't care how they do"? Apparently, no other nation would put up with these trying circumstances. Michael Stewart, Chico Young and, Tam Cowan all agreed. Gerry Braiden contributed with an agreeable suggestion, thus DrStu' was acknowledging he was not alone in thinking the above. Despite his Maw being English, all his tertiary education taking place in England and most of his professional life happening in England; Stuart really hates the English. Gerry Braiden is a born and bred Falls Road former Journo. After a dozen years at the Herald, Gerry has been Glasgow City Council's SNP Convenor, Susan Aitken's Policy Advisor these last three years. Gerry will be delighted, the last time Cosgrove lionised him he was, "a good friend of the show". It's the additional "very" that underpins genuine empathy. It's the irony or the lack of that grates. Rangers supporters have endured three years of paying our BBC License Fees and receiving no live commentary whatsoever from Ibrox. To hear Cosgrove and Co' bemoan having to listen to Sam Matterface and Guy Mowbray on several occasions over a four week period without reference to the service they provide to Rangers supporters! Further, Cosgrove and Cowan will be rewarded with a considerable wedge for the extra couple of dozen shows they hosted over the four weeks, the gravy train keeps on running. In part, we pay their remuneration; occasional shouts of, "we want to hear from Rangers supporters" does not cut it. Talking of four weeks, that's the time period Professor Jason Leitch has been off the show. Fifteen months unstinting, then take a month and forget football Jason. Of course, Wembley, Leicester Square, Hyde Park, .... etc twenty thousand Scots, thirty-odd arrests, a massive spike in Covid infection, Scotland being named as having six out of ten Euro hotspots for Covid infection, ........ etc. Jason was withdrawn to save the awkward questions. This is new, modern Scotland and the First Minister was determined we were open for the Euros, whatever the consequences. Oh, and Cowan revealed Prof' Leitch will be back this coming Saturday. Convenient? What is inconvenient is the FM announcement of 2,000 capacity crowds irrespective of the size of a club's stadium. In the last four weeks in Scotland, we have had 12,000 for three matches at Hampden, several three thousand capacity FanZones and 17,000 at Murrayfield for the rugby. Ra Sellik have applied to Glasgow City Council for a 18,000 capacity for next week's Champions League qualifier. Of course, this should be applauded, ensuring everyone of their season ticket holders receive a ticket. How will Susan Aitken reply, what will Gerry Braiden advise, how does Jason Leitch see it and, will Gerry remain a very good friend of the show? Trolling? BBC Scotland have had an ongoing conversation on the best player ever to have graced the Euros. Of course parameters were quickly ignored and Pele, Messi and, Maradona became involved. Cosgrove is forthright, Diego is the man, "he took the Italian equivalent of Kilmarnock and made them champions single handedly". Excited, he told us to forget the morality of Maradona snorting cocaine, "it's what he produced on the pitch that counts". Hhmm, remember this is new, modern Scotland. Go to page 99 of this thread, sixth posting; over two years ago, Cosgrove offered mindfulness of Gazza. The Scots people had proposed Gazza for the Football Hall of Fame, presumedly because they believed what he produced on the pitch should count? Cosgrove objected on lifestyle and domestic violence, he was supported by the usual suspects and Gazza's name was withdrawn. Meaningful or Meaningless? Another garrulous contribution from Cosgrove. He posed the question, "Meaningful or meaningless, pre-season friendlies"? Now, as Rangers supporters we have had an amazing three year ride in Europe. Gerrard has lead the team through 45 games, losing only seven of them. The club has achieved spectacularly from the disaster of losing to Luxembourg's fourth best side just four years past. We have carried the Scottish standard and improved the national co-efficient markedly. Scotland have an extra club in European competition this season. We know, do not expect BBC Scotland ever to acknowledge this feat. This is why the majority of the pundits on the national broadcaster chose to ignore Steven Gerrard, in favour of St Johnstone's Callum Davidson as Manager of the Year. Cosgrove in particular has gone out of his way to ignore Rangers continuing Euro success; often affecting comment of not knowing who we were playing, or the result. Still, maybe just acceptable if you are reliant on BBC Scotland for an Ibrox score? On Sunday, Cosgrove read out, "Tranmere Rovers one Rangers nil". Let's hope Gerry Braiden remains a very good friend of the show and he appears as a guest. If they still want to hear from Rangers supporters, I would like to ask : The Cessnock Residents Association, where did you get the idea and how long did it take to brief thick as sh1t pouring from the neck of a bottle, Councillor David McDonald(SNP) on the health benefits of an active lifestyle as opposed to FanZone burgers and booze? Convenor Susan Aitken - After GCC refurbishing the shops on Saltmarket at Community Charge payers expense. Then deciding to ballot the units for the peppercorn rent of £1 per annum; how fortunate was Susan's Hibs supporting husband, Gordon Archer in emerging first from said ballot?

  4. The directors made the unilateral decision to buy from Dave King and turned down opportunities to buy shares from the club. The members did not get the opportunity to decide whether the club should go to the club or an ex-director. It's laughable that the C1872 board (and shadow director) claim that the allocation of potentially millions of pounds away from the club is not a key decision. It also didn't stop the C1872 asking members to authorise a shares purchase in 2019 so they previously set a precedent. Members are only given a yes or no choice when it comes to votes and are never given the choice of options as then the C1872 board couldn't control the outcome. It's interesting that they have decided not to specifically address the allegations made by Rev Stuart McQuarrie. There's a big difference between having a "contributors meeting" which is a glorified Q&A session and an AGM. There was a constitution put in place much earlier, back in 2017, and there was nothing to stop the C1872 board having AGMs, other than their desire not to have their narrative questioned. This constitution said that meetings were to be held 4 times a year! Throwing in 2 allegations that I've not seen any one make to muddy the water. There was a consultant being paid by the club, who is heavily involved in C1872, who lost his job when King left, but they haven't addressed that allegation.. A candidate was threatened by the C1872 board into not standing in a previous election. I am aware of 2 other people who were prevented from standing in the latest election. It appears to me that the C1872 board went through their social media with a fine tooth comb looking for something to highlight to the adjudicator. They are now disgracefully banning a religious minister from the organisation, showing what happens to whistle blowers and anyone who dares question the way that they are running things. They obviously couldn't find anything to report him to the police so they took another option.

  9. He has certainly done a lot for us and deserves a lot of credit. However he's now looking to recoup all that cash that he invested by selling his shares to C1872, meaning he wouldn't be out of pocket. He's certainly got the right to dispose of the shares as he sees fit but when the deal was being promoted by both him and C1872, they made false claims that there would not be any more share issues, and that shares would not be available at 20p. C1872 turned down opportunities to buy shares from the club, obviously wanting to save the cash so that they could buy the shares from King. Money did go to King when the club was crying out for cash. There is allegedly a shadow director of C1872 who makes or influences the decisions of C1872 and who was employed by King at Rangers at an allegedly high salary but was let go when King resigned. There have been unanswered suggestions that there may be some sort of connection. C1872 are continuing to promote the purchase of shares from King much more buying from the club, and they give the impression that they are more interested in King's shares. It was noticeable that King came to the defence of the C1872 board in the press recently, as he obviously sees it as his way of getting back some or all of the cash he put into the club. There's also the issue of King charging interest on the £5m loan that he made to the club at 8%. It seems to me that the recent share issue by the club is largely to fund repayment of the loan and hundreds of thousands of pounds of interest due to King, but that's not strictly related to the C1872 issue.

  14. These measures aren't anti-Rangers, they're anti-civil liberty. Sturgeon hates football. You could sense the 'do I have to?' when she was pictured standing watching the national side singing that dirge vs Czech Republic. All Scottish fans will suffer as a result of the SNP's love of power. Any Rangers 'fans' who voted for them will hopefully be struggling to get into Ibrox for eternity.

  15. I'm still amazed that any supporters thought it was a good idea to fund share purchases that someone else would own and for the rights conferred by those shares to be controlled by people who were completely unaccountable to anyone. Well, here we are. Perhaps some pennies will now start dropping. You've been had folks, it's all been for bugger all.

  16. The bheasts are only allowed 2k for their “glamour” friendly v Preston this Saturday as well. Would love to understand why you are allowed 2k into Livingston or St Mirren but only the same number into Ibrox & the piggery? Where are our free press, it’s an open goal of a story against the Nazi party but yet again all I see is “cautious” “too soon” headlines. Disgusting.

  19. I don't know the SA regulations but that doesn't hold for me (without, as I say, knowing the regulations). Other jurisdictions wont care if you charge interest or not - what they WILL care about, is receiving income based on a perceived arms-length transaction. 8% may be a great return for him but it also would satisfy, I imagine, the SA authorities in terms of the interest rate charged being arms-length. Where my issue would be is that I don't believe that DK would have had to have actually received that 8%. I do US tax returns for our company and we have an inter-company loan, repayable on demand, with no interest applied. Clearly not arms length. However, all that we do to satisfy the US authorities is calculate an "implied interest". In DK's instance this would have meant that his SA tax return would show a commercial interest rate (arms length) which would allow SARS to collect income tax on the interest "charged". But DK didn't need to collect the interest itself. At least that is how it works elsewhere. As I said, I don't now the inner workings of SARS so could be wrong.

  20. If we all go to Ibrox and claim our visas have expired, Poleais Alba and a crowd of locals might turn up and lend us a hand getting in? Having said that, I think a crowd of 2k is a bit excessive. Lives are at stake. #staysafe

  24. Thanks very much for this. However, I think King was right in saying people closer to home should have stepped up and there’s no doubt his business dealings in SA would have suffered. He did what no one else was willing to do, in my view. And seemed to do it the right way. I’m sure he won’t be recouping more than he put in. However, there does seem something shady about this. Thanks for taking the time to explain.

  25. I attended the '73 Arsenal game. It was a most humid evening, the official attendance was given as 80,000. The price of entry mirrored 1873, thus one shilling(as Decimalisation has just occurred - five new pence). Most in attendance suspected the crowd was touching 100,000. I remember Parlane's spectacular goal and Alan Ball receiving dogs abuse throughout. He took it well and near the end of the game, took the ball into the corner and played keepie-up. He was cheered.

  31. There is a Maserati dealership in Hamilton too. Five years past, I ventured inside. I love hand built motors and everything was aesthetically pleasing. I was handed an A4 sheet and told to tick the extras required. Now, Maserati are very good with wheels. You get six, one at each corner, a spare and, one for steering. Every other thing is an extra. They don't do fluffy dice, Maserati provide a bespoke hand crafted olive wood cube. A die is £250, you need to roll a double six to win the privilege of handing over £500.

  32. I note our separated brethren have made application to Glasgow City Council for a capacity of 18,000 for their Champions League tie against Midtylland' I wonder how Susan Aitken will view this application? I wonder how her Deputy and Chair of Cessnock Residents Association, David McDonald will view his beloved Sellik's crie de coeur? I wonder what SNP Policy Adviser, Gerry Braiden will advise?

  33. It's certainly a huge mess and off-putting for any fan interested in acquiring shares through Club1872. I think all fans ask for is transparency; perfection doesn't happen in any business but to try and disbar someone for raising what, seems to me, valid operational concerns is worrying. Clearly there's a lot of money in play here and a crucial percentage of our club's shares so it's not a huge surprise to see fall outs and political manoeuvrings.

  34. Klinnsmann wasnt available. Granted he dived but he was still Englands best player bar Walker. It will be an interesting summer for him - Man Citeh were ready to sell him..I wonder if they will now. They should - Yes he is dangerous when at pace but 5/10 he runs into nowhere.

  35. I've only just started to forgive Souness when he left us for Liverpool, mainly because he saw them as a bigger club than us - which they were actually not at the time. However, when Gerrard goes to Liverpool, he will certainly go with my blessing. That is where his heart lies. I don't think he will be tempted by any other job.
