  2. This will be huge. I remember the buzz around Glasgow when we played AC Milan. I expect this to be the same. Just hope the SNP don't take the hump over it and put the blockers on.

  3. We are playing Arsenal before Real though are we not? OK - not top at the moment but still in the top 3 of all time from down south IMO.

  4. There is no way Rangers is losing money in this fixture. Or that RM is prostituting themselves for seven figures of Rangers money. I also think it's highly unlikely this friendly is taking place at Rangers' sole request. Sometimes, the inherent negativity from some quarters of our support is just absurd. The apparent need to find fault with the club suggests an urgent need to review priorities. We have predictions of share issue failures, accusations of share price shenanigans, and now throwing money at Real Madrid. When you consider the prudence shown in recruitment these last few seasons and the rebuilding of infrastructure and brand, you have to ask where does this pessimism and lack of trust come from?

  5. I find I have no difficulty wishing our neighbours well or understanding their joy at a small success after so many years of failure. In fact it would be petty and parochial to be anything other than generous towards them. Let them be proud to be English and if some of them go over the top then let's not be so disingenuous to think we wouldn't do exactly the same. Otherwise we just look like people with an enormous chip on our shoulders .... we're not, are we?

  6. It won’t be long before someone comes calling for Gerrard but I just don’t see him as one of the itinerant managerial circus where the same faces flit from club to club. He might well leave but I think it will only be for a specific challenge, not the money or the status. I think he’s a certain England manager one day.

  7. Certainly a way to test hypotheses. If anyone FOIAs, the chatter around this would be interesting to uncover as the time gets closer.

  8. if we go to level zero as planned then crowds are allowed. that's before this game. Given our infection rates who knows if that is happening. Be a convenient excuse to shaft us certainly.

  9. You can un-hope that quick style. Who was it here that said we live in a nationalist socialist state, I want to give them credit. In a sense it’s stating the obvious but has rhetorical power. Needs attribution.

  10. I really like Bill. We agree on so many things and can still find ways to debate them. What more can one ask for?

  11. I think the sentiment was more even if it made a loss it would be worth it rather than it being predictive of one. Certainly for me. Our moves couldn’t have been sounder recently, in my view.

  12. I've been behind Italy since I watched their first game in this tournament but it's beyond parody to see then preferred to England on the basis of cheating. I can think of no country that's achieved more in football by "cheating" than Italy. I've a feeling some carefully composed camouflage is starting to come loose where England is concerned ?

  13. Agreed on all counts. It would be best if Real Madrid could hear us as well as play us. Still, will take it. Global Rangers and all that.

  14. I'm still annoyed about the worst decision I've ever seen in a match when Hutton was bundled over and Italy scored from the resulting free kick... But I'd still rather Italy win. ?

  15. It's all one big pot but it does pose the question is it worth the money. We don't know the numbers so it's hard to discuss fully. I would say it is even if it is making a loss. We need to celebrate this anniversary properly and we need to get our reputation as a huge club polished up. It is a real shame we can't get a full house. There is of course the possibility we are getting this cheap. I seem to recall them playing Dundee utd not so long ago after coming to Scotland for pre season training.

  16. I don't know, either. I imagine that Los Blancos will demand -and get- a fairly hefty guarantee, sufficiently large to make it difficult to see the the match washing its face, financially, unless some generous sponsorship comes in. Of course, RMTV may be involved, and there may be a cut, from that, and from associated/ancillary income, for Rangers, which would help. Overall, I don't get the impression that the Club is arranging this as a big earner. I would be delighted if I was wrong.

  17. Understand you now but still want them to win. As an aside I was at Hampden when John Greig scored that memorable against the Italians,a great night and was with my Dad, the one and only time he went to a football game.
