Subject of a great graffito outside a Liverpool church: "What will you do when Christ returns?" asked the sign Cameth the reply: "Move St John to No 8"... That indicates the esteem in which he was held at Anfield.3 points

Henry McDonald, their Northern Ireland correspondent, has been very critical of Greenslade in the past, as he has been about Irish republican violence in general. McDonald's upbringing and background give him an insight into the reality of these people that violence tourists like Greenslade will never understand.3 points

I see a great favourite of many of the journalists who often feature in this thread made the news this weekend and lost his job today. Roy Greenslade, one time Daily Mirror editor, Sun journalist, Guardian columnist and, until today, Professor of Journalism at City University of London was himself the subject of an article yesterday. The Sunday Times reported about Essex boy Greenslade's unwavering support for the Provisional IRA and INLA at the weekend. This of course came as news to absolutely no one who has even the slightest interest in these things. He wrote a column for the Sinn Fein's weekly newspaper under an alias for years while working for some of Fleet Street's biggest papers. Greenslade's love for homicidal maniacs and sectarian murder gangs was an open secret, which makes you wonder just what this weekend's 'revelations' were all about? There were two excellent pieces in the online Spectator today in response to Greenslade's attempts at greenwashing history. Maria Cahill, a one time Irish republican - https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/why-did-roy-greenslade-demonise-me-when-i-accused-an-ira-member-of-rape- and Fermanagh born Ian Acheson, an advisor on prisons and reform - https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/what-roy-greenslade-doesn-t-understand-about-the-troubles Greenslade was very vocal when professional Dundonian, Jim Spence, was called nasty names in the street a few years back. Such intimidation can't go without comment after all. Shooting 15 year olds through the knees in the Ardoyne can be ignored though, well they probably had it coming, eh Roy. Anyway, here's hoping we never have to hear his name again.3 points

no way can they ban any player after doing nothing about dubai. If they did we would be in breach of our responsibilities as an employer not taking that to court. You simply can't allow your staff to be victimised at work.2 points

I'd like to thank this spambot for inadvertently resurrecting such a great thread. It chronicles a significant step towards the very happy situation we now find ourselves in. Who would have ever thought Lennon would rip the morale out of Septic and leave them a shambles? (Answer: All of us!)2 points

Roy Greenslade deserves his own thread, it should run and run. As JohnMc has alluded, Greenslade intervened when Jum Spence and his wife, out for an evening stroll, had a Rangers supporter shout abuse at them from across the road. Jum was traumatised, and reported the incident to the Police. Several years later, we can only assume inquiries are continuing? Greenslade empathising with Jum and complaining bitterly about consequences faced because of outspoken support for perceived unpopular causes is an outrage. Born and bred in Dagenham with no connection to Ireland, he was a member of the CPGB as a teenager. Now, when the split occurred between the Official IRA(the stickies) and the Provisional IRA(the Provos), the CPGB sided with the Stickies, peaceful resolution through the ballot box. Roy supported the Provos because he liked his hole. Roy's relationship and subsequent marriage to Irish Journo, Noreen Taylor explains a lot. Roy enjoyed the rewards of a base instinct, his constant, casual dismissal of others' rewards of an even baser instinct, ie life because they disagreed with his mates, is how he should be remembered. Roy had a column in the Provos newspaper, An Phoblacht(under the nomme de guerre George King) for decades. He targeted, taunted, and teased the civil authorities. Roy is a Hector. Dr Joe Hendron SDLP MP for Belfast West called out Gerry Adams et al, "a sectarian and fascist organisation". Such free speech was too free for Roy, Hendron was targeted as a working GP. This is a Rangers supporters forum, why is Greenslade worthy of scrutiny? When you hear Cosgrove make repeated statements such as, "ah don't get it, Rangers supporters are on the sidelines, raging and beeling" - that is a direct attempt to remove our voice. We have nothing worthy to say and Cosgrove utilises this to ridicule and target PQ colleagues who continue to support Rangers. Remember, Cosgrove has three former Rangers supporting mates who stopped their support because Rangers are no longer the same club. He is telling us the road to take, just like we should forget the Rangers Tax Case Blog. Roy came to hate through expediency and it has provided him with a very good standard of life. The relatives of his victims can mourn opportunities lost, Roy will find warmth in his property portfolio.2 points

Fair comment to be honest. Possibly links to the manager. If Venebles had this lot Id worry. Southgate isnt even qualified for me. But coming up against them in the summer they will probably take us apart especially when we have out worst defence on record.2 points

Extremely difficult. But this is the 23 Id select. How Pickford is even getting caps is beyond me, he is the worst English keeper of all time. Celtic missed a trick with Forster - yet he made the mistake going back to Southampton as No.2, he is a keeper I actually really rate, he just needs confidence. Replacement for McGregor in a year or so??? Id have him. Walker being able to play as a centre half puts him in ahead of Trent. Trippier can play both sides so is in. Perhaps lightweight in the centre of the park but Dier is as his name says so doesnt get near it. With Grealish, Madison, Lingard, Foden and Barnes you should only need one holding midfielder anyway. From Scotlands point of view going against them - 1) I dont see a world class keeper. 2) If Jordan Henderson is the savour and then we should be laughing. 3) No Terry Butcher, No Tony Adams, No John Terry. 4) Dykes should have a field day against them. 5) I feel sorry for our defence.2 points

Cosy Corner. Tonight's Sportsound on BBC Radio Scotland is the very epitome of what we(Rangers supporters) have come to expect. Craig Levein, Jock Brown, Darryl Broadfoot, and John Collins joined the Host for a discussion on ra Sellik's future direction. This was the entire shooting match, new Manager, Director of Football, new Chief Executive, new players, ........ etc. The past was discussed too, well as far back as, "Fergus". Obviously, with both Collins and Brown on the show, thirty years of ra Sellik is up for discussion. The whole cast talked of Fergus, Wim, Ronnie, Peter, Dermot, Neil, Brendan, and Dominic. Seriously, not one mention of a surname. It was cosy corner, all glowing and warm. When they mentioned Manchester City's Football Partnership Manager, "Fergal"; I had to Google him to find out he has a surname, Harkin. Anyways, the fantasy levels were being truly tested, the National Coach's at both Belgium and Scotland were joined by the manager of Salzburg and Eddie Howe. Interestingly, they all had surnames; well, until the point one of them is appointed. I felt Jock Brown's advice about hiring Private Detectives to suss out any signing was sailing close to the wind, but then revealed he instigated the practise at the Chamber of Secrets when he was Director of Football. Best of all, was John Collins contribution to the duties of such a Director. He reminded the listenership he was, "Ronnie's Assistant" and in querying if a Director of Football's remit should include the Club Youth Academy, he said, "Celtic's Academy is the Ajax of Scotland". I didn't know Ajax had furloughed their Academy for eight months too?2 points

I would say this current England squad would be the toughest any manager has had to pick. The amount of talent Southgate has is unreal. Its a shame a better manager isnt in charge to have these players. There was a good discussion on Talksport about it and who gets picked and who plays. I wrote down a provisional squad of 40 and Southgate will need to trim 17 off this. Keepers: Pope Heaton Forster Henderson Pickford Defenders / Full Backs: Stones Maguire Gomez Coady Mings Keane Dier Maitland-Niles Alexander-Arnold Tripper Walker Wan-Bassaka Chilwell Shaw James Midfielders / Attacking Midfielders / Wingers Henderson Rice Oxlade-Chamberlain Bellingham Ward-Prowse Philipps Sancho Saka Mount Grealish Madison Barnes Lingard Foden Greenwood Strikers / Forwards Kane Ings Calvin-Lewis Sterling Rashford1 point

I would expect a hearing for the 60-man Dubai jolly-craigsters before that. If that lot gets off without any ban or action, we should kindly decline any offered stuff from the SFA as well.1 point

England's talent, generally, with the odd exception (1966 and All That), is to fail to make the most of its superiority in numbers with ability.1 point

Are the skull drinks in the picture one of our many partnerships? Our record at the Ravioli Arena isn't great and that awful pitch is a real leveller. Do we have what it takes to break them down? Of course we do but football isn't as easy as that. Any kind of win will suit me. Mon The Rangers! ??1 point

Interesting topic. Strength in depth for England but not so much in the strikers. What’s Ings doing in that list? Calvin-Lewis is young. Rashford is inconsistent. Sterling’s a scoring winger which leaves Kane as the only out and out, bang it in the net striker. One more than Scotland has, I suppose. There are only eleven for each team on the park at one time so there’s no reason why the first eleven from a small country should not be able to compete with the first eleven from a larger country. In my teenage years Scotland had a comfortable lead in head to head victories. I couldn’t imagine Scotland being overtaken. I was into my twenties before I discovered otherwise. In B internationals and League internationals Scotland’s record was pretty decent but not so much in the under 23s. There’s the clue perhaps for what came about. Population numbers make it inevitable that though your first team might do all right your third eleven struggles and finding a fourth could be difficult whereas the big boys can find a hundred players without too much reduction of quality. Another factor in Scotland v England terms is the difference in demographics which gives England a pool of outstanding athletic talent.1 point

Hamburg appear to be repeating themselves. The two previous seasons in the second tier have both gone quite well until the business end of the season, then they capitulate...looks like they're doing it again. They don't take chances and regularly concede late goals - not a good combination.1 point

I see a hell of a lot of 'talent' that is possibly over hyped due to the league they ply their trade in, and very few names that would genuinely worry me, apart from Sancho, Foden and Sterling.1 point

When condemnation is being removed from Rangers forums, I wouldn't be expecting any from The Guardian. Most of the staff there are probably reading copies of An Poblacht, whilst listening to The Wolfetones, in support of Greenslade.1 point
