Since it's the club's AGM today I thought I'd spend a few mins putting together our own wee message to our members this festive season. In particular, due to losing a couple of folk over the last wee while and for another couple of more positive reasons, I'm looking to expand the admin/contributor team over the next few months. For example, it's been a real shame to see the number of match previews drop off and as much as I'm really proud of our podcast output recently, I'm also very keen to retain written articles across the site/forum as much as possible. Thanks to those who have contributed same in recent times (including @Rick Roberts, @Rousseau and @DMAA) it really does help maintain a forum like this when so many people spend time on other social media nowadays. Other stuff like MotM polls, match reviews and player ratings would all be welcome too! Please, please contribute where you can...! Along with improvements to the podcast (if you haven't already, make sure you check out the superb new video format), the main site has been undergoing a redesign over the last few months which I'm hoping to launch early next year. It looks really good and will compliment the pod and forum very nicely. As such, anyone who is interested in web design, graphics or tech generally might want to get involved in that going forward and we're very lucky to have @blueflag who does a brilliant job for us in terms of tech support. We'll also hopefully have some added functionality to all formats over the next year. We already have the odd well-received competition and we'll likely be partnering up with other external organisations to help continue to fund all our activities and software via one or two promotions we think you'll find interesting. One project will benefit both this site and the club directly which you'll know more about next month. To that end, I'm pleased to say the forum software, hosting and podcast platforms have already been funded through 2021 so, whilst Gersnet continues to be a completely free and independent website , I'd politely ask all of our members to try and help that stay the case by not using ad-blockers, clicking through the odd ad and subscribing to/sharing all our platforms where you can. Finally, to the main point of this thread, if you think you have the time and skills to contribute to the site, please give me a shout by PM. Whilst I know writing articles, working on websites, starring on podcasts or producing graphics etc all takes time, any help offered is greatly appreciated and will help keep our site in place for another 20 years and more... May I also take this opportunity to wish all our members a very merry Christmas and all the very best to you and your families for 2021. Thanks to you all for your continued support of our wee site. I hope you all still enjoying using it as much as I do!20 points

Only one person to blame for the 2 game suspension and that's Alfredo Morelos. If he hadn't been a complete arse, he wouldn't have been cited. If he hadn't thrown his elbow, no citation - simple as that. We can claim (rightfully) bias but doesn't take away from the fact that Alfredo is 100% to blame and should accept his punishment. His and our discipline has improved remarkably this season, but Alfredo actions are indefensible and could have cost us points.4 points

Thanks to all for the work that goes on behind the scenes. It wouldn’t be the same without this forum where you know peoples names and the chat and debate is reasoned and sensible. Apart from my contributions.4 points

Laura said on the 4Lads interview "there were share issues and we did have the option to take part in those share issues". They are saying that they couldn't take part in the most recent share issue due to "due diligence" (did they have to find out a bit about the club?) but what about the other share issues that Laura is referring to that they refused to take part in? Why do they need to understand the "investment merits" when Laura emphasised that share purchases were what C1872 were set up to do? How long does it take to perform due diligence on Rangers? A couple of hours? No mention of which will take priority. It's a bit disturbing also that C1872 need Dave King's agreement to invest in the club. Surely that's a member decision and not a Dave King decision? Who told them that? Did the not read the accounts where the requirement was quite clear?3 points

About a decade or so ago I recognised Gersnet as a refuge from the madness of certain "larger" forums, which I haven't visited since. I'm grateful that someone makes the effort to keep Gersnet what it is. To all of them, thank you. PS how much grovelling would it take to wipe my warning slate clean ?3 points

As much as I acknowledge the bias against Rangers that runs through the SFA and as much as I want to defend Alfredo, on this occasion an appeal would be pointless. Accept the ban, get the games behind us and move on. The time to avoid this was half a second before the incident took place.3 points

A massive thank you Frankie and to all contributors for providing me my "go too" place for all thing Rangers related.3 points

Confirmation that a firm offer to C1872 to buy as many shares that they would like at a fixed price has again been made. (around 9.44)3 points

There might be some gnashing of teeth and hurried memos to the music department at Pacific Quay this morning as Dougie Payne, Travis bass player, has publicly outed himself on the BBC Sport website. Obviously BBC Sport headquarters failed to pick up on Mr. Payne's loyalties before the interview. I'm sure Richard Gordon and Stuart Cosgrove will have a word, can't be having Rangers fans being portrayed as anything but reactionary neanderthals now, former art school indie band rockers not supporting the 'Tic or some diddy team, that's going to confuse the listeners. "But it has to be said that things are going really well right now. Gerrard has really turned things around and the players he has signed have slotted right in. We are not just getting good results, we are playing really well too."3 points

As a new member, just like to echo the thought of others on the thread by thanking @Frankie and the team for a great site and forum. I will never be the most prolific of posters, but I do enjoy reading the posts and views of others. The GPL, MoM polls etc are excellent as well. I also think it is moderated to a very high standard, which I know from personal experience of another site, it not always the case! Keep up the great work and seasons greetings to all!2 points

Who needs Morelos we have one of the top goalscorers going in Tavernier stick the number nine shirt on him and let him get on with it ? ?2 points

Well reasoned point regards the football side of it but I don't think that is the real issue here. If SG&Co think he is the best footballer in the squad for whatever role, then fair enough and aslong as results continue the way they are going, no problems. The most important thing for SG&Co is to continue the positive results, continue the momentum and not let enter doubts or negative history repeat itself. Where are the risks ? On Sunday, we saw something that we'd hoped had been sorted. Very early in the game, the Morelos challenge that we were very lucky didn't produce a red card. Was it a huge surprise, no, not really. Exactly a year ago this morning, the same general narrative as this season, was that Morelos had screwed the nut and improved his discipline (only 2 league bookings to that point in the season). However by late afternoon he had doubled the bookings and been shown a red. The second booking being a gesture during a goal celebration, stupidity, that we had seen before. The week before, he had played very well but didn't score in the League Cup Final against Celtic. The media went to town on him #frustrated At the end of the same month, we would see another stupid red card against Celtic, that cut our options for the post winter break games. A year previous to that he was the talk of Scottish fitbaw during the whole winter break as the compliance officer cited him for the same fixture. The first European campaign towards the groups stages under SG&Co came under threat when Morelos had a first half brain fart in Ufa and stupidly got sent off. We got away with it. Same season: Petulant League Cup booking versus Ayr Utd = No decent strikers for semi-final and elimination The conclusion is - His temperament and stupidity has cost us many times - He does and will not learn. Frustrations will get the better of him - He isn't and hasn't been sharp/on-form for about 11 months - He is looking frustrated - We got away with it on Sunday but it could have cost and led to a change in momentum - We can't trust him Would you play him in what will be the most important OF match for SG&Co to date ? Previous is no goals and two red cards Celtic will be targetting this game for a momentum shift. The media reaction after Tannadice will remind officialdom to remark Alfredos card. Risk (re.AM) is high IMO I'd play Itten through the middle against St.Mirren tomorrow and see how he does against a fairly organised side. I'd be asking Ross Wison what options may be available in January to sell and replace Morelos. Further decisions would be dependent on Itten showing up well for several games and what options were available in the transfer window.2 points

What do we think of their tables? We weren’t in the league for half of them but 3 trebles is a good achievement, could be 4, we would be over the moon if it was us the competition isn’t great compared to 20 yrs ago but that’s not their fault, we were crap pre Souness does that mean they don’t acknowledge anything they won during that period?1 point

Dividends can only be paid if the company has positive retained earnings and as it's sitting with a negative balance of over £30m, it's going to be a long while before we have the ability to pay dividends, never mind the desire to do it.1 point

They voted us out of the league, so their trophies were won off the park by severely weakening us. As for "4" when did they WIN the league for that? However knock yourself out if you want to give them credit for their ability to threaten and bribe, while undertaking a massive cover-up.1 point

So, Rangers is already 95% fan owned. Makes you wonder what all the fuss is about with Club1872, which does rather have the smell of "wrong kind of Rangers fan" about it. Given the shareholding Rangers fans on the board have invested THEIR OWN money, it's the sort of commitment that doesn't exactly stand out as needing a lot of safeguarding against. As the dinosaurs came to appreciate, you should never be 100% confident about the future but it looks to me like we're in a better position than any time during the last 20 years, maybe more. We spent about 10 years treading water, followed by 8 years in the shit, so for me the biggest thing is the current direction of travel ......... forward.1 point

Any share issues are effectively additional funding or turning loans into share capital. In C1872's case, it'll be additional funding. The shortfall was guaranteed but that doesn't mean that they have any intention of investing. They may put the guarantee in place with a view to selling a couple of players. Any cash invested will go towards the running of the club. It can't be ringfenced, despite what's been said in the past.1 point

The full C1872 statement that Ian linked to above: Club 1872 is delighted that Rangers Vice Chairman, John Bennett reconfirmed Rangers’ commitment to working with Club 1872 at today’s AGM. We also note his confirmation that Rangers now require additional shareholder funds going into 2021 - something that we had previously been advised would not be the case. Prior to the AGM, and in advance of us presenting the vote to our members on Resolution 8, we requested that Club 1872 be guaranteed the opportunity to invest directly into the Club. The RIFC Board submitted to our request and that is the undertaking that John Bennet has now confirmed at the AGM. This provides Club 1872 - and consequently our members - with the additional benefit of acquiring shares from Dave King and from the Club, which will only strengthen our position going forward. This is a very positive development for supporters and for our present and future members. It also reinforces the importance of Club 1872 raising sufficient funds to take advantage of this unique opportunity that was initially offered by Dave King and has now been added to by the Club - particularly as further share issues by the Club on similar terms beyond summer 2021 are extremely unlikely. We are grateful to Dave King for agreeing to support the opportunity for us to invest directly in the Club and therefore further progress his dream of broad supporter influence at Board level. As Dave has repeatedly pointed out - and as supported by John Bennett today - the Club has always had supporters as significant shareholders but that is no guarantee that the broad supporter base will be considered when major decisions are being made. In addition, we are compelled to correct some of the reporting of today’s AGM. The suggestion that Club 1872 has ever “refused” or “declined” to participate in any share issue of RIFC is inaccurate. Dialogue regarding our participation in the latest share issue continued with the Rangers Board as recently as this past week. During the tenure of Dave King’s chairmanship we were fully informed of the investment merits of investing in each share issue in which we participated. Club 1872 applies the same due diligence that any investor would. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete this due diligence in time for the most recent issue but that has no significance overall as the funds remain available for future share purchases from Dave King and the Club. As we have said since the start of our legacy campaign, we have an agreement with Dave King which will allow us to divert any funds from the purchase of his shareholding towards the Club if it has a share issue that we are able to support. It is now even more important that fans get behind Club 1872 as we seek to purchase Dave King’s shareholding and also participate in any future share issue of RIFC. Our ability to meet these goals will purely be down to how many Rangers supporters join us. We look forward to dialogue with the RIFC Board in the New Year on Club 1872’s future participation and to receiving the investor information which will allow us to move forward.1 point

It raises the question of trust again though. Would you trust him in the OF game, it’s 1 all and they’re doing everything they can to wind him up, sound familiar? Not me. We need to sell players and Alfredo is first on my list. Id take 10million in Jan, if we could even get that. We don’t need him. Yes he plays an important, and different, role now and has been fairly effective, but If we had paid out 10million for someone else doing what Alfredo’s doing now, we’d be cursing Ross Wilson. Honestly, its time to move on for me. He could yet let us down at a more crucial moment than last Sunday. Sorry to say.1 point

Being a long term member and previous contributor to this great forum / website (hell, they even gave me Admin responsibilities at one point ? ), this is still the only Rangers site I post on. I would love to get back to contributing more, but work and family commitments mean I can't guarantee time / effort to help out as much as I would like (sighs of relief all round). In all honesty, the quality of contributions now is very very good. Up most thanks and respect to @Frankie and all the contributors, admin, tech gurus etc who work hard behind the scenes. Lastly, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our fellow Gersnetters and Bluenoses. PS - do we still have the Gersnet awards??!!??1 point

On the one hand, there was very little in it. In modern football, you can’t do it, regardless of force. But let’s be honest it wouldn’t have hurt in the slightest so to call it brutality is ridiculous. But what was most disappointing for me was that the game was only 10 minutes in. He didn’t have the excuse he has had on previous occasions where the game was an hour in with a hostile crowd and with Scott Brown raking his studs down the back of his ankle. There was no excuse for losing the head this time.1 point

Of course Morelos brings it on himself, I don't think anyone really disagrees? however certain rules for some is disgraceful and blatant, the worse thing about it is how the rest of Scottish football are quite happy to go along with it! consolation is they all must be raging at how well we are playing which is delicious!.1 point

As frustrating and disgraceful as the double standards are, Alfie can only blame himself if he loses his place to Itten here. It’s a big opportunity for him.1 point

Sidenote: as opposed to previous seasons, we have Roofe, Itten and Defoe filling his boots should he get a suspension - both physically and in terms of goals. A more immediate concern might be: who will fill Tavernier's boots should he gets injured or suspended? ? EDIT: That was a tongue-in-cheek-remark.1 point

I think the sums up the Morelos question. Yes, his form isn't brilliant and his goal return also not where any of us would like it but the bigger picture has to be acknowledged. I just can't wait until he scores against them at Ibrox in a few weeks...1 point

Gang Hut state of mind? It's Wednesday evening and Jane Lewis is hosting Sportsound. The topic of conversation is, "Neil". A former Sellik TV guy, Michael Stewart, a former Sellik goalkeeper, Gemma Fey, and another Sellik Blogger, John Paul Dykes. Everyone shot their mouths off about, 'Shoot the Board'. Tricky rules were employed, you cannot say, 'Green Brigade' and Neil has no surname. Any random reference to McCann and Doncaster would demand the full Sunday titles. An hour of Neil is the PQ Gang Hut state of mind. Across 110th Street. Bobby Womack wrote the tune, told the tale New York being two towns. Across 110th Street and the scene changes, a world of pimps, junkies, pushers, hookers, ....... it's a strive to survive. The lights of Manhattan, Broadway, Brooklyn, etc did not illuminate so far. There are semi-autobiographical lines, Womack was the third brother of five and he sang his way out of the Cleveland Ghetto. A rotter too, married Sam Cooke's widow within ten weeks of his murder, then went on to sexually molest his 16 year old step-daughter. Anyways, the song remains the epitome of early 70s funk. It's like PQ, half a mile from Ibrox, the BBC Scotland high heid-yins can see the Stadium from their fifth and sixth floor office windows. Thus, not exactly out of sight out of mind. Friday morning and you access BBC Ceefax football pages and you are confronted by five headlines : 1. Tottenham beat Antwerp to win group. 2. Arsenal top group with 100% record. 3. Leicester edge Braga to top Group G. 4. Celtic 'baby steps' hearten Lennon. 5. Martindale a changed man - Livi' Chief. We are informed that all English clubs participating in the Europa Cup have won their respective groups and are looking forward to Monday's last 32 draw. We are informed of the lightening of Neil's mood and told of the improving demeanour of a West Lothian Gangster. Obviously, across Govan Road is too far for the Gang Hut, a Scottish club winning their Europa Cup group and looking forward to the draw, has been disappeared. To be fair to PQ, they put up an article on their website on Friday morning : 'Steven Gerrard - Rangers manager edging towards European record'. Several paragraphs of misinformation and disinformation. According to PQ, Rangers top managers in Europe are; Smith 23 wins, Advocaat 22 wins, Gerrard 22 wins, Souness 10 wins, and McLeish 9 wins. No mention of John Greig's 11 wins, or the best of them all so far, Scot Symon on 28 wins. Seriously, what's worse? Being not mentioned when every other British club participating is credited favourably, or publishing half-cooked, half researched, couldnae be arsed nonsense? Thinking about it, Bobby Womack was not that bad, just a product of his conditioning.1 point
