I think we need to hang tight with Alfredo. Regardless of what has or hasn't gone on, we need to make sure we get the £20m we are after. It would be our record sale but also show to outsiders we are no longer a pushover when it comes to selling our best players.3 points

What I take from this is the profound change in Rangers' approach to player trading. I take heart from the fact there appears to be an intent to maximise any deal in our own favour - a major change from the shambles we've watched for many years. Very few players are willing to commit to a club like Rangers. In almost 60 years as a supporter I've seen many good players come and go. Kent will be no different. If he leaves, someone will take his place. The only thing I expect is that any deal is done in the interests of Rangers.3 points

I'd like to think the scouting team are already seeking out a potential replacement for Kent. The English transfer market is totally over-inflated, so the money we could get for Kent might fund a replacement for him, fund the purchase of a dynamic midfielder and give us some profit, if we can find them overseas.3 points

We have to have a more settled team , i don't think playing Morelos short term is the way ahead, Roofe and itten are.2 points

That stat on the face of it looks good for Celtic. However, 5 of those goals were in their opening game at home to Accies - their subsequent two games has seen them score 1 goal in each game, which MIGHT suggest that they are struggling to create chances against brick wall teams too. We can but hope. Fingers crossed loyal.2 points

They didn't deceive you - that is a characteristic of a natural scorer. Ralphie Brand? A dwindling number of us will remember him with fondness.2 points

He’s away in my humble opinion Will move quickly now2 points

Except I've always had the feeling Kent was happy here.2 points

Given the way Alfie is treated by referees and the Scottish press, I don't blame him for wanting out. It wouldn't surprise me if we don't see him play in a Rangers shirt again.2 points

What a useful turn of phrase. If I ever have to go back to work, I’ll be using that in negotiations.2 points

This is our route to success. Selling at over-inflated prices to England and spending the money more prudently in markets across the continent. Until we make the UCL groups this the only way we can significantly improve our finances, and therefore first team.2 points

While I agree 14 million is an interesting sum there are many more factors to be considered. First are Leeds likely to offer what he's really worth? Hardly, no one does. They try to get a bargain price and that's fair enough. We would too. And presuming these reports are accurate, the fact they have jumped from 10 million all the way to 14 million in just a week demonstrates perfectly they're playing that game. They're trying to get a young player who still hasn't reached peak potential, and who they obviously regard as EPL standard, for a relative pittance in EPL transfer fee terms. Further factors. The club earned an estimated £18 million in Europe last season. What would be of more value? Keeping Kent to help achieve that Euro money again? Or selling him off which could be detrimental to achieving that aim again? And of course we're at the beginning of a key SPL season. I don't need to go into the details of what's at stake, everybody knows them. The fact the manager himself has publicly indicated he is more than keen to keep Kent, while simultaneously bemoaning the fact it could be taken out of his hands, indicates to me he sees Kent as crucial to the league campaign and more. And let's put aside the well known stakes of the season ahead. And further presume that Kent is crucial to winning the league which may be supported by the managers view of it. Aside from all the well known factors at stake this season, what else may be at stake? Well what may be at stake is a crack at the Champions League and a potential 50 to £60 million windfall. A sum that could put us on a level financial field with them for the first time in years. If Kent goes we're not replacing him with equivalent quality. The team is weakened in this crucial season. And with all that in mind and taking into consideration at least as much and potentially even more could be realised for him next year, my view is why do it now. when he's contracted till 2023.2 points

Even if there were a release clause which were matched it would still come down to Kent himself. He's a young guy, still only 23, he has years ahead to make the big money and I suspect he is in the meantime coping perfectly well on 25K a week. It can't be all about money for someone who is already wealthy and has so much time to become even wealthier. Does he want to be playing in a side competing in Europe and challenging for honours? Or a side who are as likely as not to be in a relegation dogfight challenging for nothing but a spot outside the bottom 3? He was not just happy but determined to be at Rangers a year ago when he had the chance to be at Leeds. Leeds will not be challenging for titles, cups, or a place in Europe. And Kent will have ample opportunity to make a big money move a year or two down the line. Perhaps even to a side a rank above Leeds if he continues his early season form and carries it into Europe.2 points

I'm offended ? lol. I've heard it all now. I would say amused far more than offended. Round and round and round we go. I never posted anything and used it as if it were fact. You did. Just a couple off the top of my head is that losing Kent means we are weaker, without considering the possibility of a replacement who may be even better. Then there was the catching up of Celtic by getting a crack at the CL, when in actual fact Scotland gets two slots in the CL next year so us obtaining the top spot doesnt mean they dont get the same opportunity. That's just off the top of my head. How does that logic even work that replacing him with significantly less than the selling price gives you inferior quality ? He is virtually the same player who we paid £6.5 million for. Just because Leeds may be willing to pay £14 million doesnt mean that to get the same quality you need to spend the same amount. That's naive logic. I didnt say we would replace Kent with someone of similar quality - I said it COULD be done. And therein lies the difference between you and me - you consider the incumbents to all be crucial, without any consideration that there may be other, better, more suitable alternatives out there and perhaps even cheaper. Whereas I reserve judgement - Barcelona spent £130 million on Coutinho and yet Ansu Fati gets more game time than him, a La Masia graduate..... that's my point. Players will come and they will go. I am not going to put ANY of them on a perch when they can easily fall from it. Aside from that i am not responding further because a) it takes away from what this thread is supposedly about and b) you have a need to have the last word and all your words do is, as I said, go round and round and round stating the same thing multiple ways. Its tedious and tiresome.1 point

For a brief few weeks, Jones had the fan base asking “Ryan who?” If anybody remembers that, it wasn’t long ago. It could also be argued that we have already replaced Alfredo with a strike partnership of Roofe and Itten, and don’t forget our top goal scorer from last season is back soon. I am playing devil’s advocate here but, we could still be very capable of challenging, with up to £35m in the bank allowing us to bring in the last piece of the jigsaw - a dynamic attacking midfielder. Quids in if all goes well. If not, a kitty is available to bankroll the next manager. FWIW, I’d prefer to keep Kent and Morelos and find that AM, but I could see it go completely the other way.1 point

Whatever; que sera...etc... However, let's hope that Club is not caught with its dick its hand, on the last day of the transfer window, when, as everybody knows, it 'slams shut'. The pain of that is, well, eye watering.1 point

Pure, unadulterated conjecture and speculation. Which is fine, but don't present it as factual when it clearly isnt, right ?1 point

Aye but Craig, one the we can be certain of is they wouldn't be paying whatever he brings to replace him. Then even if they were that good they simply still couldn't be as fully effective.1 point

Bill, I could have put it no better sir. Too many folks get twisted around the axle on some player, or coach. I can't blame them. After all, it's those great players, and coaches that create lasting memories. You can't get too attached. Tomorrow is about the club...not the player.1 point

That looks like this over-statistic garbage the US make so much fuss about in American football ... yet, at the end of the day, points on the board matter, don't they? Obviously, domination of the ball et al should by default win the day in any given game ... and perhaps we saw something new in the Roofe & Itten as well as Barker & Kent attack line-up. We have to wait and see how that developes and how we get on against the brickwallers on their soil.1 point

Just a few stats to add to this, Rangers have faced 17 shots so far this season, Celtic have faced 19 having played 2 games fewer Rangers' average possession of 66.5% is the highest in the league Rangers' pass accuracy of 87.6% is the highest in the league Doesn't mean anything at this stage of course but some good early signs.1 point

I think so too. I also notice Rodgers is after Ikone of Lille, which could make them move quickly to get Alfredo in.1 point

I think if he has a good week in training and his head is in the correct place, I would play him against Hamilton; as of right now, he's our best option in attack, imo. However, given how things look to be panning out, I wouldn't be shocked if he's a Lille player by the end of the week.1 point

Problem is, do we play him in the interim as that's the only way we can keep (or increase) his value? As I said on the pod last night, I hope being dropped is a short, sharp shock for the lad. With Roofe and Itten now getting up to sharpness and contributing to our two goals on Saturday then Alfie will have to realise quickly that he has to work hard to get back in the squad, never mind the first XI. Hopefully he puts in a good training shift this week and is available for the Hamilton game as it's best for both parties that he keeps playing and gets back to full fitness and form. There might be another closed doors friendly tomorrow or Wednesday to help with that. (Of course it could be that a sale is just more imminent than has been the case previously but we'll find that out over the next few days).1 point

I don't think this issue is whether or not Morelos is leaving .... it's about realising the maximum price, which we won't do if he spends an extended period on the sidelines1 point
-
Yes but that's an entirely spurious argument since I don't see anyone claiming the absence of a release clause. If you're going to assert there IS a release clause then you need to be able to substantiate it. But you can't so it's just rumour and gossip. No?1 point

Hey...you're preaching to the choir...no disagreements from me man. A ton of upside. He is off to a great start. He scores against the pedos. He takes zero shit from anyone. Love the kid. Kent IS crucial...especially with Fredo probably off to wherever. I don't think we could replace him quickly though...and money doesn't mean shit if they take the title again. IDK though man...it's a long run till this window closes and if numbers like 14M are already poppin up...them waters are gonna get awfully hot...that frog might jump. If the good lord's willin and the creek don't rise...he will be with us raising 55!1 point

So far, there’s been no evidence at all of any release clause.1 point

Why should he , in fact why should he discuss any players contract .If a team wants any of our players , bid for them or enter negotiations , don’t go via the Yorkshire post , just my opinion .1 point

Gerrard alluded to it in his press conference. Saying once an offer of a certain size comes in, it changes the dynamic off the bid / transfer. Most, if not all players will have a release in their contracts, just modern day football. Itten had one, we matched / offered it, he was free to talk to us and signed. Nothing his club could do about it. Same will happen if Leeds meet the figure in Kent's, it becomes a choice for the player to make and nothing we can do about it.1 point
-
Apparently there is a release clause in Kent's contact and again apparently £14M is very close to activating the release clause. It'll come down to the player and if he wants to move from being a big fish in a small pond with an opportunity to win trophies or if he wants to join the lower echelons of the EPL and a possible relegation dog-fight where he may not play every week (but he'll get paid "handsomely" for it). Big decision for the boy and we'll struggle to replace him and would seriously dent our ability to challenge this season.1 point

Another well produced and presented offering today. Really setting an example of how football should be presented. Rae, Dodds and McCann are excellent and their insight and analysis is spot on. Once again CT and KT nailed the commentey. Throw in Sir Walter and you've gotten a 1st class product. We'll done to all involved - top class.1 point

This is what I, and most Rangers fans, are pissed off about. They got to move a fixture to try and get their fans in, never mind all the vote rigging and stealing another title!. It really gets to me the lack of noise about this, it's like pay your money sit down and shut up for Rangers fans.1 point

I've always believed that one of the defining characteristics of Celtic and its adherents is an ability to create fact out of fiction. Their willingness to believe what is clearly fiction and turn it into established truth would make a blind alchemist blush. If someone says they've sold 50,000 season tickets then the expediency of wanting it to be true will immediately make it "true". The Celtic world is a world of entirely flexible reality, where 50,000 season tickets is whatever you want it to be.1 point

Now you know why our game at the girodome got moved to October from its traditional slot in August. Had this game been due to been played at ibrox it would have gone ahead as scheduled. welcome to the corrupt state of Scottish football. No wonder sponsors won’t touch it with a barge pole1 point
