Ewing is Ewing Grahame, a strict adherent of ra green'n'grey hooped horrors. His commitment to the cause cannot be questioned, he has lost a job because of his devotion. Ewing's bitterness continued into the next day, seen on a number of occasions in a state of uber refreshment in and around the Gottleib-Daimler stadium. Fifteen minutes after kick-off, Ewing stumbled into the press box, braying algebra, he took out his lap top, slumped over it, and succumbed to deep slumber. A story was unfolding, 8,000 Rangers supporters were being crammed into a seating space for 3,500. The German police did not care what stand your ticket placed you, they were determined every Bluenose was to be placed in the designated away area. Thirty minutes after the game, the crushed Rangers supporters filed their way over a hastily constructed scaffold bridge, distraught at a 1-0 defeat, Ewing slumbered on. The flight arrived in Glasgow four hours late and it was Ewing's unprofessional behaviour that was to blame. Jonny Hayes has also walked, despite sterling service suppressing all Australian bush fires with his face. We cannot have questions. The fail failing publication is the Sunday Mail, like it's daily sister, the Daily Record, has a several year commercial arrangement with ra Sellik. Printing and publishing both ra Sellik View and ra Sellik match day programme. The Sunday Mail can no longer rely on Gordon Waddell to pen his weekly Rangers hating bile, they let him go because they can no longer support the terms and conditions of his contract. As of 13.30 hrs today, all quotes from David Low have been removed from the article. Who would have thought David would take his professionalism to the depths achieved by Ewing? Such partisan comments made in a professional capacity. In mitigation, David was probably pyshed, we know Ewing is; Peter must demand more from Hollicom?

There should be no football until fans can attend in unrestricted numbers. Football without fans is completely pointless. I have come across the German games a couple of times and can’t watch more than a couple of minutes before having to turn it off, it’s not entertaining without the atmosphere generated by the crowd. The leagues and clubs who are pushing to get matches back on are basically saying F*** the fans, f*** the players and coaches, we want our tv money and we don’t give a hoot if people get ill or die or if fans get anything for their support. And by the way, give us your season ticket money and buy a new strip and sit down (at home) and shut the hell up.

121 Years Ago Today on the 1st June 1899 William Wilton was appointed first manager of Rangers at Trades House Glassford Street Glasgow. William Wilton (9 June 1865 – 2 May 1920) was the first manager of Rangers Football Club, serving the club in that position from June 1899 until his death in 1920. He had previously filled several roles including match secretary to the reserve and first teams. Mr Wilton joined the club in September 1883 as a player but never progressed beyond the second string eleven. He was soon appointed secretary to the club's youth team and reserve side. He was also on the special committee that oversaw the club's move from Kinning Park to the first Ibrox ground in 1887. Mr Wilton became match secretary of the first team in 1889, succeeding from Jimmy Gossland. The club shared the inaugural Scottish League title in 1891. Mr Wilton had been appointed as the league's first treasurer at the start of the season. When the club became a limited company ten years later Mr Wilton was chosen as manager. In his decade as match secretary for the first team, the club won two League championships in 1891 and 1899, as well as three Scottish Cups in 1894, 1897 and 1898. He also won four Glasgow Cup's in 1893, 1894, 1897 and 1898, and a Charity Cup in 1897. Rangers had achieved the first ever 100% league record, winning all 18 games and scoring 79 goals in 1898-99. To date no team has achieved the same. Under Wilton's stewardship as manager, Rangers won eight league championships and another Scottish Cup, nine Glasgow Cups and seven Charity Cups. In his final season as manager the club won its tenth league championship. Mr Wilton tragically died in a boating accident at Gourock in 1920. John Allan’s book, The Story Of The Rangers, paid him this fitting tribute: “The ideals for which he strove are still sought after by those who are left in custody of the cherished traditions of the club.” Mr Wilton’s final resting place at Cathcart Cemetery has been restored as part of our Restoration Of Rangers Project.

The football manager granted permission for Torbett to start the feeder club in 1966, but dismissed him eight years later after hearing about allegations of abuse. However, in March 1984 The Glasgow Evening Times reported that Stein, manager of Scotland at the time, would be making a “personal appearance” at a branch of Torbett’s Trophy Centre on Kilmarnock Road in Glasgow. Kevin Kelly, the Celtic FC chairman between 1991 and 1994, was a director of the Trophy Centre from 1989 until 2005, long after Torbett was first convicted and jailed. Mr Kelly and Jack McGinn, another former Celtic FC chairman who was also employed at the Trophy Centre, both strongly deny having any previous knowledge of Torbett’s offending. Gerald King, a former Celtic Boys Club chairman who was convicted of abusing children in 2018, also had a job at the centre. Celtic FC had a long-term deal with the firm, reported to be worth £250,000 a year, which did not end until 2002. At that time the club said: “Celtic had a long-term contractual obligation with the Trophy Centre. This has now lapsed.” Torbett resigned as director of the centre in 2000 but it is not known when he left his position with Celtic FC’s retail arm. In 2018 the High Court in Glasgow heard that one of his victims, now aged 37, was abused at Trophy Centre premises in the Pollokshaws area of the city.

Jim Torbett, 72, the founder of Celtic Boys Club, was jailed for six years in 2018 for sexually abusing boys between August 1986 and August 1994. He had previously served a two-year sentence for molesting players, including the future Scotland striker Alan Brazil, at the boys’ club between 1967 and 1974. While expressing “regret and sympathy”, Celtic have distanced themselves from Torbett, describing the boys’ club as an “entirely separate organisation” with which they had “historic contacts”. However, The Times can disclose that in addition to coaching he was hired by the club to run a chain of shops, selling merchandise. Torbett’s firm, the Trophy Centre, also had a long-running contract with Celtic. The revelations will heap further pressure on the champions after four senior figures at the boys’ club were convicted of molesting children over four decades. In March 1994 The Celtic View, the club’s magazine, carried an article about sales. It states: “Jim Torbett, who oversees the Celtic Shops. . .” Four months earlier the magazine reported on how Torbett had launched a club shop in Argyle Street, Glasgow. In 1994 Celtic listed three shops, one department store concession and their staff as part of the club’s commercial division. During his first trial in 1998 Hugh Birt, the late former boys’ club chairman, gave evidence that Jock Stein — then manager of Celtic FC — kicked Torbett out in 1974 after hearing claims of abuse, but did not inform the police. It is a version of events corroborated by Lou Macari, the former Celtic player and manager, who wrote in his autobiography: “The wish to maintain the good name of Celtic was the only thing that kept the issue from coming to light.” Torbett returned to Celtic Boys Club four years later and molested more boys, remaining there until 1996 when abuse allegations appeared in the press. Passing sentence in 2018, Lord Beckett said: “You used the club as a front and a recruiting ground for boys who you could sexually abuse.” In February Celtic FC said it was “very sorry” the abuse had happened, but still insisted that the boys’ club was separate. After Torbett’s 2018 conviction the club issued a statement saying: “Allegations regarding abuse at Celtic Boys Club first emerged in the 1990s.” However, Celtic launched an internal investigation in 1986 that found “nothing to substantiate” the claims. Thompsons Solicitors, which is representing about 20 abuse survivors, is preparing to launch legal action against the club. A Celtic spokesman said: “We would have no comment to make.” A club insider added: “I’m not aware Torbett was actually employed directly by the club.” Investigations by The Times have exposed the links between Celtic FC and its scandal-hit feeder club (Marc Horne writes). Celtic has insisted that it is not legally culpable for the widespread abuse, describing the boys’ club as “entirely separate”. However, their position was contradicted by their own official magazine. In 1987 an article in The Celtic View said: “It was some 20 short years back that [the Celtic manager] Jock Stein and [the chairman] Sir Robert Kelly brought the boys’ club into the Celtic family. “It is now 18 years since Jock and [the Celtic scout] John Higgins made the connection official.” The previous year it featured a report saying: “David Hay [the Celtic manager] complimented Celtic Boys Club and once again confirmed that they are very much a part of Celtic FC.” An archived copy of the now-defunct feeder club website stated it was the “only official Celtic Boys Club”, while its registered address was a Celtic FC training ground. Jack McGinn, Celtic’s chairman at the time, was found to have accepted the resignation of the boys’ club coach Frank Cairney after allegations he had abused a teenager on a US tour in 1991. Mr McGinn’s involvement appears at odds with claims that there were no links between the clubs. The Times uncovered documents showing that Stein had personally recruited Cairney to the boys’ club in 1970.
