  1. Chuffed to bring Hagi in on a permanent deal. Looks a class player, with some attributes we've been badly missing. Play him in a central attacking midfield role and he'll score and assist bucketloads of goals.

  2. I am so excited about this signing. He has the potential to be a huge player for us. He's skillful, quick, can score goals too and has the heart of a lion.

  4. I see your line of thinking - I am down to 10 properties plus 4 castles Gribz One of the issues with so many clubs for such a small population is that the fans are much more spread out, simplistically speaking. To be fair, when using those statistics, if we extrapolated England's numbers to Scotland we should have 9 clubs - which also makes no sense. There should be a happy medium. I'm not sure there is a silver bullet but I would go for bigger league sizes but fewer of them In Scotland nobody cares beyond the Premier league - so why not just have two divisions of 16 but then you have regionals below that ,allowing lowland/highland/junior teams the opportunity of stepping up amongst the big boys - some of the juniors are better run and better clubs than some of the pro clubs we have. I admit that only two divisions may also see clubs merely treading water - but they do that anyway in many cases.

  5. On the 27th May 1856 the Rangers great that was Tom Vallance was born. To quote his Rangers team-mates from the 1870’s‘’ The whole of Rangers loved him like a brother’’ Over the years of our research into the formation of our Club one name kept popping up time and again and that’s the name of Tom Vallance, who had on reflection sadly been overlooked. Tom was born at a small farmhouse known as Succoth near Renton in the parish of Cardross. When young he moved with his family to the Old Toll House at Shandon on the Gareloch. Tom came to Glasgow in the early 1870’s following the path taken by his friends whom he’d known since childhood the brothers McNeil and Campbell . Tom Vallance had an astonishing 60 year association with the Club, and his is an incredible CV. He was a master oarsman, a champion athlete (he set a Scottish long jump record of over 21 feet), he studied at the Glasgow School of Art, had paintings accepted by the Royal Scottish Academy and was Rangers Club Captain and President for many years. We have details of Tom Vallance being present at the ceremony held on 1st January 1929 which saw the opening of the Main Stand at Ibrox and also at a dinner which was held in the St.Enoch’s Hotel after a Rangers match in 1933 when we faced Sporting Club of Vienna. He was also a guest of the Club at the New Year’s Day fixture that season against Celtic. So the lad who was present at Fleshers Haugh in 1872 is still attending Ibrox some 60 years later where the Club that he’d helped form and nurture were now playing in front of crowds in excess of 100,000. Tom was a successful business man. He had The Club restaurant at 22 Paisley Road West which today is the Viceroy Bar,The Metropolitan which stood on Hutchison Street in the Merchant City area of Glasgow and the Lansdowne which was at 183 Hope Street. Tom was having the Rangers results wired to his restaurants for the benefit of his patrons as early as 1890.When Rangers moved to First Ibrox in 1887 it was said that it was common for Club President Vallance to be working the turnstiles on matchday. We have a newspaper report detailing Tom and Founder Moses McNeil attending the 1905 Scottish Cup Final as supporters. At the opening of the Main Stand in 1929 Tom Vallance recalled the facilities being so cramped at the Rangers ground at Kinning Park that the players would have to wash in basins of cold water in the open air. It was the teenage Tom Vallance who helped lay the very foundations upon which our Club was built, hard-work, discipline, honesty, integrity and fair play .Mr. Struth said during that famous speech “No matter the days of anxiety that come our way, we shall emerge stronger because of the trials to be overcome. That has been the philosophy of the Rangers since the days of the Gallant Pioneers”. Tom was paid the ultimate accolade by the Club in May 1898 when he was made a life member. As a lasting tribute to the incredible contribution he made to our Club we had Tom put on to canvas by way of a painting by artist Helen Runciman . Tom Vallance has now taken his rightful place at the top of the Marble Staircase alongside his friends and fellow Founders. Tom was one of the originals, one of the greats. Today we celebrate the life of Tom Vallance.

  6. What happens with the Scottish cup. If it's next season and celtc sign a 20 million pound player does he get to play? If hearts have to release half their team because of relegation how are they compensated?

  9. We did numerous teams previously..I was wondering about an XI that got injured cruely who would have went on to be even better. Am I right in saying Amoruso didnt play a game for about 9 months when signed? Im missing a LB and a midfielder. What a forward line that would have been. Charbonnier Wright Prodan (RIP) Amoruso ??? Durrant Thern ??? Rozental Mols Negri

  10. I can't see how extending the season could change the dates in a player's contract. Unless you think their contracts just say "...until the end of the season" ?

  11. Almost half a million pounds. Given the circumstances that's a fairly impressive number.

  12. Yep. An Albertz to frighten them. Even a pit bull like Stuart McCall to nip at everyone. Kamara should bulk up and Jack can put it about. But agreed, no 6ft monster. We do have Kent who will smack a few if needed ?

  13. And a heavy price tag.

  14. When we start again to out-muscle and out-fight the likes of Livingston at home, we are already loosing. Stewart, Jones, Morelos and Kamberi can hold their own, Aribo is excellent in retaining and getting the ball. Jack and the three defenders should be able to cope with the "menace" that their attack will be, so we need to beat them in their own half and penalty area.

  18. When will the Berahino rumours end. He's done very little of any signficance in years, not what we need.

  19. Agreed. And thats why I said pick out where we need strengthening. Kamara should bulk up and start to model himself on Vieira then it would add masses to the midfield. Dont agree RE attack though. Morelos with those backing him up is pretty good.

  20. Both selections are lightweight in midfield and attack. That’s not the fault of either selector. There are no cruiserweights on the books.

  21. Saturday afternoon on BBC Radio Scotland, Stuart Cosgrove said : "ahm hearing reports this week of Rangers signing Hagi for £5 million, given the current state of Scottish football, every aspect of that deal is wrong". The key word being, "every". A young exciting talent arrives at a Scottish football club and EVERY aspect is wrong?
    1 point
  22. That's a snip at that price. Build the team around him and Jack.

  23. I agree with larger divisions, but Scottish football needs fewer teams, not more. We have a population of circa 6 million and 42 "professional clubs".... England has a population of circa 60 million and has 92 professional clubs. Extrapolating our population to England's and the number of clubs we would have 420 professional clubs for the same number of populace.... and then we wonder why average crowds are lower than 1,000 in most stadiums.....

  24. If they can award the title then they have to stick by the relegation. Hearts have to go down despite it being wrong. Its Partick I feel for. They are a point behind with a game in hand - that is criminal. I just dont see how they wont drop from 4 divisions to 3. I think a 12-16-16 would work well. Promote Brora and Kelty.

  25. Hearts will not be relegated, their resolution will pass, we are being lead up the proverbial garden path, or so they think.

  26. Well, coming to think of it, one of the main reasons for teams outwidth any league issues (titles, promotion, relegation) to vote for an end of the season could very well have been the simple fact that they are now able to shed 50+ % of their teams and have no need to sign up any replacements instantly, thus no need of paying wages. If that can be proven, the PFA should be up in arms as dozens of players will be end up "unemployed" for a few months in a simple cost-cutting excercise by clubs that just got money from the SPFL. Obviously, 8 out of 12 teams use loan players and freebies for the best part of the 10 years anyway, but keeping the season going would have meant that they probably had to keep them on till the end of the campaign.
    1 point
  27. ... well, various factors come into play there, not just money for players. Using the squad and applying different tactics for different opposition would be essential too.

  28. You're looking at this from a logical/ethical perspective. Sadly, the people who make the decisions in Scottish football view these matters from an entirely different perspective.

  31. Seems a reasonable price for Hagi. Seems an absolutely ridiculous price for Ferguson. No thanks on that one. For that kind of money we have to be bringing in first team regular players. Who is Ferguson going to replace in our midfield? Nobody is the only correct answer. We can’t afford 7 figure transfer fees for squad players. And just as important as all of the above, we MUST NOT be giving Aberdeen a single penny. Utter scum club who hate our existence.

  32. I don't think we can afford to spend £1.75m on potential this season. Lewis Ferguson is only 20 years old so there's no doubt he is one for Rangers to keep tabs on. But let's be honest Greg Docherty is probably a better player. I think we should be saving our transfer fee kitty for 2-3 big players who walk into the first team.

  33. The valuation seems right going by whats left on his contract. The guy knows what playing in the spfl is about and would add a bit of much needed grit and strength in areas we are weak so would be a decent signing in my eyes.
    1 point
  34. We have some of our own decent players with potential,a signing we don't need at valuation,as we need already established players and not one who will need nursing.

  35. £1.75M sounds alright to me. Ferguson looks a decent player, with potential.
