I don't see it possible to extend the league. Teams will have players whose contracts are up at the end of the season. Come the end of May, or before, they are offski. Clubs may not have the resources to renew short term contracts and players may not be willing either. Opening the transfer window before 9 June isn't correct either as clubs can then buy themselves out of trouble. The whole thing is a mess and it just needs to be declared null and void.7 points

I don't think that there are any other former D.U.P. councilors working at Ibrox. As such we can be sure that his appointment will already have increased diversity.4 points

He’s a lifelong Rangers supporter, well versed in PR and media with a background in politics Fan friendly and well aware of the score with regards to Scottish Media4 points

Notice no Record journalist put their name against the article or quoted their source. Complete hatchet job. Of his appointment annoys The Record and others, I'm a 100% behind this appointment ? In all seriousness, a person's religious or political belief should not come into question as long he is the best person for the job3 points

Currently, Kris Commons is appearing on Talksport, fully armed with prepared Holicom script. He follows John Hartson, Chris Sutton, Scott Brown, Neil Lennon, .............................. etc. When, I wonder is it Tom Boyd's turn? Further, has ra Sellik's internal investigation into Tom's tormented tongue concluded yet? We should be told3 points

Apart from wearing his tie back to front ,i'm sure he'll do a great job.3 points

I think it's best for Gerrard to remain neutral. Let the likes of Lennon and Brown demonstrate their lack of dignity, as expected. If the title is given to Celtc, then the club should act accordingly.3 points

The food at Ibrox has been awful for as long as I can remember. Why is it you can go to a highland league ground and get gourmet pies but Rangers can't serve up anything but rubbish. Outsourcing catering might have been a useful commercial decision but it didn't do any favours for the customer.2 points

There is already a hatchet job article on him in the Record! his appointment seems to have upset some!2 points

Thought it was excellent too.... here it is in full, in case folks can't get access to the site (not usually done as we give the main site the hit) : https://rangers.co.uk/news/club/rangers-position-impact-of-coronavirus-on-scottish-football/ RANGERS are continuing to monitor the ongoing situation regarding Coronavirus and its impact on football at all levels. I reiterate Steven Gerrard’s comments this morning that football is secondary to the health and well-being of the citizens of the United Kingdom. Life is precious and as a society, we must endeavour to do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable in our community. As a club, we will continue to follow government guidelines and advice relating to the health and safety of all members of staff. It is our firm view that this season’s league competition (2019/20) is only complete when all 38 games are played by all teams. For the avoidance of doubt, we believe that final standings can only be confirmed when all games have been completed, not before. Any attempt to finish the season with a significant amount of games still to play, impacts upon the integrity of sport in Scotland. Furthermore, we are strongly opposed to playing games behind closed doors. Rangers fans have stuck by our club in the darkest of times. Their loyalty will not be forgotten and they will not be left behind. We are cognisant of the uncertainty surrounding the future of many businesses and peoples jobs because of a potential lengthy extended break. We must be mindful that football goes well beyond the result of a match. Football brings us all together, it provides countless people with a livelihood and we will work to ensure no one runs roughshod over people’s lives. We will continue to maintain a watchful eye on the decisions of footballs governing bodies. Let me reassure the fans that we will not be found wanting in this situation. Not employing someone on the basis of their religious persuasion wouldn't be 'diverse and inclusive' now, would it.1 point

Great statement but must be followed thro on. Words are cheap.1 point

Looks like all the media guys and newspapers push but one theme / agenda ...1 point

And presumably neither will "the club acting accordingly". As Craig points out, Gerrard is by far the most famous person we have. If we as a club really want to stop the league being awarded then they should be ding something about it now and not allowing celtic free reign in the press.1 point

We all know Rangers don't have the support in the media, politics and football authorities to affect the decision.1 point

It's too late at that point, not withstanding your point. Coming out and complaining afterwards also has a lack of dignity. We either lose our dignity or Celtic get awarded the league.1 point

I expect there will be a vis major clause, but although it removes or reduces liability, I still can't see it resulting in the clubs being paid in full. The clause isn't used for this purpose so I doubt it applies. I think you're right that many season ticket holders will, however I expect many others will not claim compensations or refunds, recognising the damage it will do to the club. Certainly @compo is understandably looking for something, given the number of tickets he has paid for. I think the TV companies will try to be seen to be helpful but if I'm a shareholder of those companies, I'd expect the management team to recover costs or establish some sort of future value. Either way, the clubs will have to pay for this, especially in England. The panic created at the moment has far more serious consequences than its impact on football clubs but since this is our Rangers forum it makes sense to discuss the possible impacts on our club. Providing the majority of ST holders don't expect much of a refund, I think we should be in a decent position. I read somewhere (maybe in last year's annual report?) that the cost of matchdays meant that our gate receipts were almost all swallowed up by those costs. If that's still the case then we should not be impacted so much by the loss of games. Our income would be zero but the matchday costs are zero too. It'll be sponsorship commitments that will be damaged so again it's down to our contracts with them. Up to now our ability to have decent contracts is in question so that might be a problem. The most immediate battle however is ensuring that the east end mob don't get away with stealing this title. p.s. I understand that the expectation of this virus is that it will continue for the next year infecting around 10-15% of the population. I know the chief medic and adviser had hoped it was a winter virus but if this continues into the summer and beyond, as experts are now claiming it will, and players are included in that, I can't see how we will have any meaningful league next season either. That's disastrous for football, and even worse for the wider economy.1 point

Most football clubs are in the proverbial house of cards at the moment. It doesn't matter how 'rich' the league appears to be, the margins between sustainability and collapse are tiny. I just reread both the Deloitte and KPMG reports on the financials at the English Premier League. It suggests that a small downturn in TV revenues (my rough calculations show less than 10%) could spell disaster for at least 14 of the 20 clubs. This is quite possible so unless the TV companies prop up that league in particular (as @JohnMc suggests), some major football clubs could potentially collapse. Of course football clubs are relatively unimportant in comparison with the wider social and economic challenges we will face, but it all has a knock on effect. I can't remember who said it (possibly @Bill) but I too suspect that there will be very little transfer activity in the summer. I can't see how clubs can afford to take the risk.1 point

Coincidentally I have been thinking about dropping my TV subscription and subscribing to an IPTV service. Will probably continue with the former but the latter is pretty pointless now.1 point

It's all a bit academic now anyway. The current team is unlikely to be challenging for trophies again. Some will leave, others will arrive. But if SG continues to think this is English football then it won't matter who we sign.1 point
