Does that really matter ? The “what about them” excuse is childish. We have words being sung that we know aren’t allowed - yet we have fans acting like 5 yr olds, pointing their fingers everywhere else instead of at themselves. FARE aren’t impartial, we know that. But give them nothing to report us for and we then can make that complaint from a position of strength. Make the complaint now and it’s from a position of weakness. So tiring listening to some of our support being stupidly defiant. Defiance is great but in this instance it’s misplaced because the ONLY thing it will do is have the stadium closed in its entirety and see the club lose at least £1 million. Those same fans will complain when we can’t afford to spend £1 million on a player and lack all sense of self awareness that it would have been their fault.6 points

I've got no idea what you're talking about here. This has absolutely nothing to do with 'yahoos'. This is 100% about the fact that we still have a minority in our 'support' who sing songs about stuff that has nothing to do with football, or our club, and despite multiple pleas continue to do so while knowing that it will damage the club. I sing songs at the games, and there can be few people who celebrate a goal (especially ones against Celtic or in Europe) as much as me, but I've not felt the need to include the words that the minority do, and which harm the club. So let's not get all dramatic and suggest anyone is banning all songs or preventing goal celebrations. I do accept that for those idiots that find a way to include f#####, or pope, or Bobby Sands in every song, this will be difficult to overcome so my advice is STAY AWAY! I don't want them at games. Rangers staff and management don't want them at games. Nobody except their own moronic copycats wants them at games. In fact these idiots are doing more to help Celtic and others at the expense of Rangers. Supporters?!? Don't make me laugh.6 points

Excellent stuff from @Gizmo231 ahead of tomorrow's game. Please click the main site link to support our contributors! https://www.gersnet.co.uk/index.php/news-category/match-analysis/1051-pushing-on-in-paisley-st-mirren-v-rangers After a hard fought game in Warsaw, it's now back to league action for Rangers as they look to make it three wins on the spin in the Ladbrokes Premiership. The side are playing with style both domestically and in Europe, scoring goals and looking hard to break down at the back. But as we all know too well, our season was undone in 2018/19 thanks to below par results against the so-called poorer sides in the league. So with that in mind, let's take a look at where the game with St Mirren could be won and lost on Sunday. Background to Game Rangers are coming into the game on the back of a more than decent result in Europe and one they really could have taken a victory from. Steven Gerrard's men have also had a fair amount of games of late, four in less a fortnight, and come into it match sharp and ready to go with a pool of players big enough to rotate if needed. St Mirren's last outing was against Aberdeen a week past on Sunday, so they will be well-rested and hopefully slightly rusty ahead of the lunchtime kick-off. Head to Head History In 116 meetings over the years, Rangers have won 87 of them which shows the dominance we have over our colleagues in Paisley. In fact, over the past few years we have had plenty of meetings with the Buddies both in the Championship and then in the top flight. We welcomed a then-Alan Stubbs led St Mirren to Ibrox for the first home game of the season and swatted them aside in the first half before going a man down when Ross McCrorie was sent off. We have won five of our last six and drawn the other against St Mirren, scoring 15 goals in the process and that all makes for welcome reading before we travel to face Jim Goodwin's side on Sunday. The Opponent St Mirren had a topsy-turvy campaign last season by all accounts. The disastrous appointment of the aforementioned Stubbs almost cost them their place in the Premiership before it had even really started. Oran Kearney came in and, again, couldn't get the team playing - that was until nearer the end of the campaign when they finally found a bit of form and managed to avoid a dreaded relegation scenario. But it proved to be an utterly bizarre summer and it was almost a will he, won't he situation with Kearney as rumours circulated he would leave. After weeks and with the new season on the horizon, the Northern Irishman did head back to his homeland in what turned out to be a pretty bitter affair as he and chairman Gordon Scott resorted to mud-slinging in the media. Following that bombshell, though, Jim Goodwin took the reigns and has done a decent enough job so far. The former Alloa boss made a great impression at the Indodrill and looks set to continue that in Paisley - especially if they can build on some promising opening performances. Form The Buddies narrowly lost out to Hibs in the opening game of the league season following a disappointing run in the Betfred Cup where they were sent crashing out at the group stage. But they managed to rally following the early setbacks and produced a great performance to beat a sorry Aberdeen team in Paisley. That's why it's key Rangers must respect their opponents this Sunday - they have shown they are capable of providing a shock. Dangerman Kyle Magennis remains a hot prospect for St Mirren and is a shining light in their team. He has skill, pace and eye for goal and he's certainly one to look out for in this Saints side. Rangers As I have said a few times this season, we are a good team. If we turn up and play how we can, we should be beating every team in this league. But this is going to be a good test this weekend because, as mentioned previously in the article, it's the sort of game which, last season, we'd have potentially dropped silly points. As we saw against Kilmarnock, if we drop off in a game we can be punished - but what was also so great about that game was that we found a solution to it. We now have more skill middle to front in terms of breaking teams down in the final third with the likes of Joe Aribo and Sheyi Ojo hitting the ground running. We also have players like Scott Arfield and Jordan Jones who can feed Jermaine Defoe and Alfredo Morelos up top. We are in a good position, with a good squad of players and with a huge week on the horizon, it would be no surprise to see Steven Gerrard shuffle the pack. The likes of Greg Stewart and Jones are the players who should be appearing in these sorts of games this weekend. They are proven Premiership players and should be able to go to St Mirren and put on a show - but for Stewart I'm not convinced he yet has the full trust of the management team to be starting in tough away fixtures. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Andy King handed his first start in the game in a three man midfield with Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo. The likes of Steven Davis and Ryan Jack could perhaps do with a slight rest before next week's double header with Legia Warsaw and then Celtic. I think Gerrard will make changes for the game but the squad depth is such it should have a major impact on the team. Predicted line-up (4-3-3) Predicted score St Mirren 0-2 Rangers4 points

I think we’re at a watershed point in our history now. The Club have a simple choice, take strong action to rid us of the morons or go on with the wee cosy chats and appeals that the morons will just ignore. If this behaviour continues we could be out of European football, does anyone think that Steven Gerrard would stay if that happened? He’d be off not wanting his name attached to a club that’s been proven racist/sectarian, the directors have a big decision to make here. Are they up to it?4 points

Given the same people were singing the same songs in Warsaw I guess we can assume the next level of punishment is already in the pipeline. Until and unless this is sorted out I would recommend accepting no away tickets, either in domestic or European games. This is surely the only way the club can try to dissociate itself from the morons. It's beyond clear now that this isn't going away without being enforced and, regrettably, at Ibrox there needs to be draconian action against those who continue to spoil things for the rest of us. We need properly trained stewards or club representatives seated appropriately among selected parts of the support with a view to expelling/excluding enough troublemakers to make a permanent difference. I'd also get rid of the whole BF1 "singing section" at the next ST allocation and redistribute them across the stadium.4 points

Absolutely Bill, Ive followed much of this discussion on Twitter & Im concerned at some of the views being expressed, as I believe if some of the strategies of sing it "loud & proud" were to come to fruition that would spell disaster for the club. You dont have to be defence counsel to drive a wedge of reasonable doubt into this debate, in fact some of the evidence has already been presented in this thread. I saw the word "Appeasment" being used on twitter - its not appeasement to box clever in a ring where an unjust narrative, devoid of balance & fairness has already been sown & furthermore, imposed by an Football organisation who are nothing short of dictorial in manner and corrupt in nature. Its not about appeasement - its about survival.4 points

I don’t think there’s any chance FARE would meet us. To me they’re a secret, sinister organisation who operate in a similar way to the stasi & KGB used to do by spying on specific people & organisations. Their accountability should concern everyone. I would however like to see the club enter dialogue with UEFA to determine what their relationship with FARE is and specifically who decides what games they attend. We need to know who these people at games are & who they are accountable to. So little seems to be known about FARE & who is funding them. Football must have openness & transparency. If not then things could turn very nasty indeed.3 points

Exactly. If folk want to defend freedom of speech (I’m giving them too much credit for philosophical principles here) go and sing about ******s and popes in george Square. Don’t damage Rangers. I don’t like the Catholic Church or popes or any religious cult but I’m not going to destroy my football club to get the point across. No one is listening except FARE and the fact these numskulls still want clarification is breathtaking.3 points

Yeah, the single biggest difference I’ve seen in a Goldson this season is his willingness to make vertical passes into midfield rather than horizontal to his fellow CB. its intentional from the management team IMO. Vertical passes from your CB cuts out a number of opposition layers with one ball. It gets us on the front foot quickly.3 points

I think that's an incredible naive assumption you've made there and effectively want them rewarded for damaging the Club. How is Bearger the lickspittle when you and those of your ilks desire is to grant their wish to damage Rangers beyond repair?3 points

I know I am one of the few who believe Kent is not the missing piece in our jigsaw, and while I feel sorry for the lad who seems to be being messed about by his parent club, the truth is that nobody in England came in to buy him with a suitable bid, and in my opinion there is a very good reason for that, and that is that he just doesnt have a good enough record of goals and assists. If you can hardly make double figures in combined goals/assist over a whole season at a mostly attacking club like Rangers in a poor league, it doesnt really make much appeal to splash out £10M or so. Of course there is no denying the player has a great turn of pace, can beat players, and is still young so has plenty of time to be coached into a much more prolific player if he can improve his game, so you would think would have been worth a punt by a lower English Premiership, higher Championship side, but nothing happened apart from a couple of enquiries. For me, I thank him for his time with us last year, hope he goes on to improve his goals/assists return, and finds a club with a good coach that can get the best out of him. At the sort of money that would put a huge dent in our budget both in fee and salary, I hope that club is not us. We have bigger priorities. Perhaps if he has a year frozen out the game, which is looking increasingly likely, then player and parent club can wake up and be more realistic next summer, and the player can get back on with his career.3 points

Anyone else think Goldson's distribution has been a lot better this season? There was a bit of coverage about him being a 'ball-playing Centre-back' when he signed, and then articles aftwerwards suggesting why this wasn't quite accurate -- he just didn't complete enough passes to be deemed as such. He could play a cross-field ball, which could be impressive, but that wasn't always accurate, and that was the only ball he'd play. This season, though, I've seen him play some decent straight balls into our wide forwards with a decent success rate; they're dangerous balls, as well.3 points

Celtic has been punished by UEFA 15 times in the last 12 years and received a fine on each occasion. The includes pitch invasions and assaulting players on the pitch. But here's the thing ... anyone who either expects equal treatment or is surprised by the lack of it is operating in dreamland. All the protests and heel dragging in the world isn't going to change the world we have to live in. That's going to take something far smarter and innovative than I've heard today.3 points

I thought this at first, but it seems there has been a lot going on behind the scenes. ITK posters on FF (posting before this news was announced) say that FARE actually reported us 7 times last season, but the club persuaded Uefa not to charge us. Whether it was insufficient evidence or the club proving they had did all they could to prevent the singing I don’t know, nor do I know why these reports by FARE weren’t made public but maybe Uefa couldn’t be seen to condone sectarianism if they publicly found us not guilty (as they initially did in 2006). So it seems the club have known about & been fighting these charges for some time, but at the St Josephs game FARE finally obtained enough evidence to get us charged. So the club are fighting these charges, & Uefa don’t find in favour of FARE every time. But it is all happening behind closed doors, apparently. Either way having the singing section led by a wee guy with a megaphone belting out TBB, songs about the UVF & Bobby Sands during European matches at Ibrox is clearly a bad idea. And if it happens again we will indeed be playing behind closed doors.2 points

The use of the term 'appeasement' is awful rhetoric. There is no alternative available. That is to say we can't defy U.E.F.A. on this. U.E.F.A. simply don't care about anything we can say on the matter. If we want to play in European football then we need to accept it.2 points

You’ve drawn me in. That is a misquote, I basically said I thought it was important to get Helander fit and in the team for Katic after what I saw as a series of errors that had cost goals or good chances despite otherwise good performances. Helander is an experienced player and strong on positioning apparently. There were some good replies to what I said there which were fair enough, I’m just conscious we have a quality £3.5m pound Swedish international who still isn’t fit and challenging. And you didn’t prove anything I just had to stop replying because we’d both made our case and someone had to drop it.2 points

I think you are rather confused. Allow me to help... No-one is saying Goldson doesn't make mistakes - quite the contrary. What people are saying is that he is capable of mistakes but no more so than anyone else in the team, including Katic. However, like most of that team, Goldson's general form has also been pretty good. As such, it becomes tedious when you single him out continually. The daft claims you also can't back up are thus: 1. People think Goldson is a God and above criticism. Not one person thinks that. That's why even his backers are happy to discuss his faults. 2. Goldson makes at least one big mistake a game. No he doesn't and certainly makes no more mistakes than anyone else. 3. There are a lot of people who agree with you on that. Not on this forum, there aren't. Not going by this thread. 4. People are picking on Katic. Also, incorrect. Katic like every player, receives some constructive criticism and I've not seen anyone disrespect him like you've been doing with Goldson. 5. Gerrard made a big mistake dropping Katic for Worrall. Unproven at best for the clear reasons listed earlier. 6. You started slagging off Goldson because others have an agenda against Katic. No, that's also untrue as more than a few people have noticed your obsession on this over the last couple of months. 7. Players can't be MotM if they make a mistake during a game. Hmmm... If I had got as much wrong in just one thread, I'd certainly be embarrassed. But if you can't see you're looking rather silly by now then I'm probably wasting my time with this post too. In any case I think we've exhausted this topic and I'm sure most people are bored by the subject.2 points

Use the word fen!an and UEFA will censure the club. We've been warned previously for it, now had a section of a stand closed, next the whole stadium will be closed and a huge fine dished out before we'll then be thrown out their competition. It's not difficult to understand and playing funny buggers doesn't wash.2 points

FYI - for anyone not able to attend the match, the game looks like it could be shown live on Bet365. Think you just need to have an account and have placed a bet within the last 24hrs iirc. Edit: you don’t have to have made a bet within 24hrs so long as you have funds in your account. Just checked again and there is a ‘play button’ icon next to the game, which means it will be shown live.1 point

Going back to the songs we can sing, let’s be honest, most of us cringe when we hear TBB or SR. There are still loads of others we CAN sing for eg; Derry’s walls, Every Saturday We Follow, Blue Sea of Ibrox and loads of other traditional songs that don’t contain FTP or F@nians etc. This is not difficult, it’s easy enough to do, and takes the initiative away from them1 point
-
I actually think this could be of benefit in the longer term. I can’t be the only one who was not looking forward to the OF game. The media and Hollicom would have gone after us and the songbook. This way we are forewarned and can take action to avoid it. They will have no ammunition of substance if we don’t give them any.1 point

As it stands, the support gets no vote, no voice ... and the club usually only reacts to what UEFA say. I prefer a clear and open approach so that we not let others to decide on us ... and you will agree that the motives of FARE are far from impartial?1 point

The bottom line is the people who sing these songs don’t care what anyone thinks - let alone anyone on a message board. They will sing what they want regardless. It’s difficult to know how to combat it.1 point

FARE isn't impartial, everyone already knows that but it is what it is. Accepting all the unfairness and all the cards that are stacked against us by some of the most devious bastards ever to draw breath, what would you propose we do? As I see it we have two choices. We can whine and complain, dig our heels in and pretend we have a moral right to do so, in which case the hammer will continue to fall on Rangers. Or we can find new words to new songs, new swords to wield and new causes to pursue, in which case we might just avoid some of the worst of their arrows. If the support was lined up before you and you had to tell them what to do, what would you say? And after you'd told them how unfair it all was, what then?1 point

There's a segment in the support who have priorities over and above what's beneficial/detrimental to the club. A large part of their 'reasoning' for following the club is to partake in these now archaic activities. No amount of punishment levied on the club will change that behaviour. In fact such punishments may even encourage some to continue with or even ramp up the same behaviour. They could become a very expensive burden to carry.1 point

I posted last week about this and of course was told “I did not hear anything”. Only one poster backed up what I said. I’ll repeat it, there are some in our support who don't care what damage they do. The club are to blame for putting up with FTP and the Vatican etc. And we all know who starts these songs, wee clue they sit in Broomloan Front nearest main stand. Just seen statement from club, very very poor. They have allowed this to happen. That section should have been given a final warning weeks ago and shut down after last week.1 point

If people have issues with what Celtic fans do then start complaining to UEFA. However what they do or do not get up to isn't relevant to our singing. We were warned that TBB was strictly forbidden but yet....1 point

Rightly or wrongly, TBB has been creeping back for long enough. We all know who is involved with FARE and who works with UEFA on this crap but still many people think it's a good idea to sign this song.1 point

This is not a surprise as it is Rangers but unjust when you hear/see what goes on at the green side of Glasgow. This IMO points to a "sectarian ban" as obviously we are regarded as a Protestant club and whether we like it or not are in the minority to Catholicism in Europe. Still it maybe get the mindless morons who continue to belittle the stature of our club, with their songs,to finally realise what pricks they are.1 point
