  1. Outstanding analysis of our formation and tactics. Hope this puts to bed the confusion over the formation we play. https://www.modernfitba.com/blogs/2019/7/23/rangers-tactical-report

  2. Club 1872 Statement on Sports Direct Litigation 29 July, 2019 Club 1872 was, in common with all Rangers supporters, concerned to see reports of the outcome of the latest court case involving the club and Sports Direct. Clearly it is not a positive situation to be on the wrong end of such decisions and of particular concern were tabloid headlines regarding the possibility of Rangers having to pay “millions” in damages following the latest ruling. It is always our wish to be able to communicate in detail with supporters but on this topic we must be mindful of the club’s position which is restricted by confidentiality provisions, court decisions and the ongoing nature of these proceedings. This means that they simply cannot discuss this issue in detail with Club 1872 or indeed anyone else. We have asked Rangers to give Club 1872 and the supporters what reassurance they can and they have reiterated their statement on the club website. It is the club’s position that the judgement is not as reported and that the damages cap of £1m has not been removed. As supporters will see from the release of the new away kit, there is no restriction on supporters buying this season’s kit and the purchase of those kits continues to benefit the club. This is a complex and far reaching legal dispute and there are a number of aspects of it still be to decided by the court. We feel the same frustration as all supporters when there are setbacks in that fight but the goal remains the same. We would remind supporters that Mike Ashley and Sports Direct were and remain a malign influence on Rangers Football Club. Club 1872 purchased a large portion of Mr Ashley’s shares in 2017, partly to remove one aspect of that toxic influence. We look forward to the day when he and Sports Direct no longer have any dealings with our club. We are fully supportive of the Rangers board’s efforts to stand up to Mr Ashley’s attempt to bully the club into submission. Mr Ashley’s approach on this matter continues to make no commercial sense – given the position of the vast majority of the Rangers support towards Sports Direct – and appears to be purely vindictive. We would urge individual supporters who are frustrated with these ongoing court battles to consider what action they can take to remove support for any and all parts of Mr Ashley’s business empire, and encourage others to do the same. We would also take this opportunity to express our sympathy with Newcastle fans who find their own club suffering under Mr Ashley’s ownership. We have made approaches to a number of their supporters’ groups to discuss ways in which we can work together to challenge Mr Ashley and Sports Direct in what we believe is a matter of shared interest. We appreciate that supporters want more detail and more reassurance regarding this ongoing fight with Mr Ashley and we are sorry not to be in a position to provide it, but we remain up for the fight and hope that supporters will continue to show the same determination which saw Mr Ashley and his lieutenants kicked out of our club in 2015. 3. Tbh, I started out with the assumption that Barasic is the better player but when you actually think about it he almost never shows evidence of it. I don't know what's holding him back but his play is so inhibited that his actual contribution always disappoints. I'm staggered that Andy Halliday is still at Rangers but by the same token when he plays he almost always delivers. I'd rather have an effective journeyman than a master craftsman who never turns up.

  4. Kent has the same flaws as Candeias had, too often the final ball isn’t good enough, he doesn’t shoot enough, he doesn’t score enough, he doesn’t create enough. The difference is Kent is at the start of his career, not in his 30’s, so would be a re-sellable asset if we bought him. A true value for him in his current level of ability, around the £2M mark, no more. If Liverpool want more, we move on. I have said it dozens of times, we don’t get value for money by buying in the English market, we can only sell to it. Its getting to the stage I hope he signs for some English team just so we can move on from this never-ending story.

  5. The part about the deep 8s was really well developed. A few have questioned why we need 'three sitting midfielders', and this answers it: they're not 'sitting midfielders'; they allow for us to control the centre, break the press, play through teams, and control possession.

  6. Thanks Frankie, really enoyed the whole experience.

  8. I agree that we could strenghten in the position but my preference would be someone who is a natural central attacking midfielder rather than a natural winger.

  9. I'm watching it bit by bit on RTV and have only reached the 70th minute so far. Helander had next to nothing to do but my first impression is that he's more of an old fashioned centre back, good at defending but would prefer not to be on the ball too much.

  10. With the centre backs I have to admit that I simply don't know. I've put Goldson and Helander due to reputation as much as anything. Edmundson has looked the best out of the lot (by a distance on the ball) but that wasn't against strong opposition. The centre mid is very much a case of horses for courses, @Gaffer had a good post on this earlier in the thread. I've put Jack back in because I think Kamara's natural position is actually the deeper role which Davis is doing whereas Jack is better at bursting forward and supporting the attack, which is what we need more often than not. Docherty is brilliant at this too and should contribute very well this season when he steps in. Ojo gets the nod alongside Arfield because despite not impressing much in his all round game he has two goals. Your job is to create and score in that position and so far Ojo has shown he can at least score. Defoe is our best all round striker, his link up play is outstanding. McGregor Tavernier - Goldson - Helander - Barisic Jack - Davis - Aribo Ojo - Arfield Defoe

  11. Buying food and drink at the football is similar to doing it when you go to the pictures - unnecessary. You get a lot more, at less cost, at the local shop.

  12. I get nervous when we start talking about average players in terms of "must have". They mostly never deliver as much as we think. I'm all for Ryan Kent having a role at Ibrox but only at reasonable cost, never at the expense of funding the wider squad of players.

  13. I thought the first 30 minutes belonged to Derby, Huddleston is the biggest unit I think I have seen in a football strip. The remaining hour was ours, and some. It was one going on three or four. The best result and performance I have witnessed reference Rangers against a Derbyshire club.

  14. We will need to see what he does when the Hammer throwers noise Morelos up. that is a huge part of stopping him.

  15. I can't believe that Katic who was close to motm on Saturday and yet many have him as 4th choice. Even his build-up play is good. Until I have seen more of Helander and Edmundson Katic is first choice for me.

  17. Why must they bring alcohol into a ground? Couple of hours without a drink should not be a bother unless they’re alcoholics. Never needed a drink to watch Rangers, although sometimes afterwards ☹️

  18. You would have to smuggle can into ground.

  20. Arsenal 72m for Pepe from Lille. Thats a middle finger to Crystal Palace who could have had the cash yet will be left with a player who doesnt want to be there. No idea about Pepe though.

  21. It's an excellent analysis. And after years of little to no tactical identity how exciting is it to read an article like that when it is about Rangers!

  22. Other than being seen to make a statement, it’s difficult to draw anything useful from Club1872’s words. Bland and directionless waffle.

  25. Pretty sure we played 4-2-3-1 quite a lot - certainly in Europe. I think we started with the 4-3-2-1/4-3-3 but it didn't really work as Candeias doesn't like the inside forward role so we reverted to the 4-2-3-1 to allow us to have the natural width. It wasn't until Morelos got suspended later in the season that we went back to the 4-3-2-1 which worked well with Defoe up top and Arfield & Kent in behind.

  26. I believe that it's due to an agreement reached with the previous directors to get them to resign rather than a desire to move on. In my opinion, there's no question that they breached their fiduciary duties but, as you say it would have been time consuming and also difficult to prove in court.

  27. If it's not Kent (who I think is better centrally), then perhaps we can play Aribo there, allowing Davis, Kamara and Jack to play the midfield roles. In keeping with the purpose of the thread, I'm interested to see who we are yet to sign. Gerrard implied we have one or two more to arrive. I'm hoping it's someone for this left sided role. I don't think we need any other position covered.

  28. I don't recall us ever playing 4-2-3-1 last season like he claims? No confusion, but it doesn't mean that we didn't play 4-3-3 at times in the last 7 games. ☺️

  29. So it would appear the Motherwell Hearts game is being shown on BT Sport on Friday 16th August and the Rangers game has been moved to Sunday 18th for TV purposes.

  31. I'd love to see him get up to speed. Stewart is a really good player and that position Ojo has really suits his style. I'd say the same for Murphy but unfortunately he looks to be about a month behind in terms of fitness. This formation is great for Murphy because it puts far less emphasis on pace than the 4-3-3. I'm a bit concerned that we might be expecting too much of Jones at this stage. I have to admit I really don't rate him, good pace off the bench to beat tired defenders maybe but to be a bit harsh he's a bit of a poor man's Ryan Kent...

  32. The prices are high but I don't think many people would complain if it was actually decent. At one stage around 20 years ago our food was the best (in my opinion) in Scotland and now it may even be the worst. A pie is part of my football experience but I can't eat them anymore. There's actually nothing I buy from the shop anymore and choose instead to eat beforehand. Sort it out Rangers!

  33. I wouldn't read much into a footballer's social media account(s) with regards to his future career. I agree with Tannochsidebear's post and really hope we don't spend a lot of money to bring Kent, who often flattered to deceive, back. We need someone who can regularly play a killer pass and add to the goals tally and Kent doesn't do either.

  34. BT Sport had two live games on over he weekend in the Betfred Cup - Elgin v Hibs and Dundee v Inverness so I'd hazard a guess and say BT Sport. I'm thinking it might be Motherwell Hearts that's shown live in BT. Empty at Tannochside Bears house for the match.

  35. Have your lunch before you go to the game and buy a can of coke before you go into the stadium. But we should all complain about the sub-standard food and drink and the prices within Ibrox.

  36. I can't stand the tension and you guys are now just teasing me with these reports. I'd love to get Kent back as you know, but there's no way we can afford him. If Club 1872 are happy to help fund it, I'm happy to increase my monthly subscription to help pay for him.

  37. In agreement with al ot of the foregoing posts but must give ref a good mention as he could have produced cards of both colours but treated game as what it was A FRIENDLY. ask Tav if he felt that way?

  38. Okay, I'll bite. 1. Souness won the title and the League Cup in his first season. The second season, we won the league cup on panalties. 2. Colin Stein scored a perfectly good second goal for Rangers in the final, controversially ruled offside. 3. I saw Greig play several positions, including keeper and centre forward. 4. That particular evening in Florence, I was both tired and extremely emotional.
