I really hope VAR is never introduced in Scottish football. It is awful, in general and given the level of our officials, I expect it would be even worse here. You've scored. No you haven't. You might have. Just wait 6 minutes to find out. Cool.3 points

Second half was a bit more disjointed but we rounded a good performance off with a splendid 5th goal. Overall great to see the team back and looking forward to Tuesday night now.3 points

I think it's the way he plays in the Leeds side; it's how Bielsa plays. Bielsa's 'strikers' are not static. It does look like SG is trying to adopt that fluid front three approach. I'm happy.3 points

Third goal was a lovely cross in which Mayo got a good header on which the keeper could only block, and as the defender tried to clear he could only hit Mayo who was following up and it got bundled over the line. Fourth goal Ojo took advantage of a defender slip to be clean through and a tidy finish in off the far post. Its all very pedestrian and early pre-season as is expected, but the only one who looks to have picked up a knock was McPake who only played 15 minutes. I take my hat off to the bears who have bothered to turn up today for what has been effectively a training session, the crowd looks to be about 15-20K which is absolutely amazing.2 points

Very much enjoyed that first half. OK, the opposition are nothing special but some of our play has been superb and they've really struggled to keep up with us. Impressed with all the new players and, one or two sloppy moments aside, we've done very well.2 points

We were rumoured with him when he was at Oxford and we were getting promoted he has come on a lot since then.2 points

I’m one of those who wanted VAR but have changed my mind completely now I’ve seen it in action.1 point

At first I was unsure about VAR. Now I really dislike it. I've noticed, speaking to football fans, that people who attend a lot of football matches are far more sceptical about it than those who don't. But people who attend football matches are largely ignored and treated like cattle or criminals, so I doubt we'll be given much of a say.1 point

Bang on mate. Imagine going mental at a last minute winner against Arsenal at Ibrox in the Europa League Quarter Final only to then be told five minutes later actually it's offisde or there was a foul in the build up. Takes the whole spontaneity out of it1 point

Couldn't agree more. Almost makes me glad that Pete has posted this thread so that we can discuss, at length, how crap V.A.R. is.1 point

It's certainly indicative of GCC general incompetence, although I wouldn't say that incompetence is confined to Glasgow. Anyone expecting them to do any favours for RFC will have a long wait.1 point

Michael Stewart has a firm hand on the tiller of VAR. We will be subject to it soon enough, It's Rob McLean and Michael Stewart commentating on Tuesday evening in Gibraltar.1 point

The person I fear for is Barisic. He really looked out of place today again. Halliday looked a far better player.1 point

Glad to hear young Ross is a loan deal only and has a future at Ibrox, not like the Scottish gutter press to tell lies is it?1 point

A beautiful one-touch passing sequence between Ojo, Jack, Tav and an easy tap-in for Defoe to round things off. 5-0 FT1 point

Mayo is a CB I think1 point

Left sided central defender.1 point

He's been solid defensively but has been loose in possession but given he's not played top level football for long enough, that's perhaps to be expected. Again shows just how much Tav has to offer in attack compared to many full backs.1 point

[HT] Rangers 2 - 0 Oxford. I like the look of some of the new boys.1 point

No recognised striker is a good idea in a league like Scotland as the defences are mostly park the bus so more movement is what you need to pull defenders out of position.1 point

I think Stewart will do fine for us but I'm surprised he's starting ahead of Defoe but I guess we'll see a different XI after half-time.1 point

Cannot recommend this highly enough.1 point

No idea but I guess the editor will often have the final say on stories. I'm hoping to have Stewart on again as part of a wider discussion about the Scottish media so we can certainly ask him about how such stuff finds the light of day. In the meantime, hopefully this pod is an interesting one.1 point
