RANGERS are delighted to announce the signing of Joe Aribo from English Championship side Charlton Athletic, subject to international clearance. The highly rated 22-year-old, who had options to move elsewhere, has made the decision to join the Gers on a four-year-deal. Is it SG launching a bid or The Sun re-launching the now customary and established sure-fire clickbait story on Skrtel to Rangers ? An experienced centre-back to put beside Goldson does makes sense. However, I don't think it wise to go into the season looking to regularly rotate the central defence. It didn't work out very well for us last season. Pick the best combination and stick with it.4 points

Stolen from Twitter..... "We've made him a fantastic and magnificent offer. If he rejects, we move on"3 points

I've only seen him the once, which was in the League One Play Off final against Sunderland. And all I would say is "wait till you see him play". Looked to me like the best player on the park. Even before we were linked with him, and whilst watching that game I was saying to myself "I wouldn't mind Rangers picking this lad up". He's fast, he's direct, he's skillful, he's strong, he's prepared to have a pop from outside the box and he oozes the confidence to take players on and commit them. Not 100% sure where we would play him but, in that game against Sunderland, they actually played him as an inverted attacking midfielder - played on the right hand side for most of the game. I would hold back on your skepticism until you've seen the lad play. I, personally, am very excited by this signing.3 points

I share this view Bill. This has to be our business model rather than relying on funds continually from the board members. Although we'd all like to see big names arrive again at Ibrox, I just don't want us on that slippery slope to huge debts again. It's easily done. With the debt to equity confirmed and with this change in our recruitment strategy, the financial side of our club is looking really healthy, possibly for the first time in 40 years. Now all we have to do is start winning things again and we will be in a fantastic position.2 points

Hastie, Aribo, Jones, Kamara, Morelos, Polster, Edmundson, Docherty, Stewart, Katic - all appear to share a similar profile- players we can use, improve and sell for good profit. It’s now clear the club is being run on a far more sustainable basis than for a very long time and with a clear operating mission. The hope has to be that, as we rightly become a selling club, we also become capable of routinely winning trophies and not just a club that produces a winning team every ten years or so like Ajax.2 points

That was also discussed on the programme. If he was in Holland then he would have had the choice for euthanasia but in Scotland he does not have that choice. Personally I do think in extreme circumstances like this it certainly should be possible.2 points

In the Gaffer's RTV interview today he was very confident in saying that there will be more signings on the way, as well as those going out. It'll be interesting to see if that's in addition to our current top players, or if it's because he's expecting to replace Morelos, Tav, or others.1 point

Quite simply, the likes of Aribo and Edmundson are the sort of players we are signing with a view to making a big profit at a future date. It's where we're at due to our recent problems and the country we play in. If we want to just sign proven players from big clubs, in good leagues, we're going to require a suger daddy and that looks extremely unlikely.1 point

Cheers Craig. As I said I support all the new players in the stadiums and wish them nothing but the best, the scepticism is reserved for on here where it belongs! It is a huge jump up though.1 point

Never heard of this guy but I tend to try to avoid watching the English Championship as you rarely see good football being played there, so I am a little uninspired by another signing from obscurity. I like what SG has to say about him though, and like with everyone will get my full support and hope they turn out to be better than their CV would suggest. The positives are he is the right age, the right price, and with good potential to improve and be a sellable asset in a year or two if he does well. he also played a lot of games and returned a decent goals ratio. Creativity is what we badly lacked last year, so if this guy can do what SG says he can do on a consistent basis, that will improve our side. The negative is he is coming from a poor side in a vastly overpriced and overrated league, where the pressure he will have been under is a million miles away from what he will find with us. If he has one good game in 3 at Charlton he could win POTY, at Rangers he will be slaughtered. That step up is difficult for someone who has not played at any decent level or under any pressure to win things. However if Aribo is to play wide left (therefore replacing Kent) and contributes a similar goals tally (with assists on top) as he did last year at Charlton, that will be an improvement on Kent, so will improve our points tally. Just got to back the manager and scouting staff and hope these key signings pay off. Still to get our marquee signing to get the fans excited, so hopefully still a quality player to come in. Edit: Just realised the stats for Aribo last season were not even in the Championship, but League 1 where they finished 3rd but got promoted via playoffs. That is a massive difference and an even bigger gamble than I had thought. Just like Edmundson who has come from League 2, there must be better players across Europe who have played at a higher level than this pub football level in England. Very sceptical!1 point

I think Halliday and Polster have there own place in the team but no designated position, don't see either as full backs, they can play there CM, DMC FB and as wide midfielders, more like utility men on their respective sides of the park, that's why I think we will go for another LB. Although I think Barasic will be given another chance, I don't think Gerrard will take a chance on him turning out to be a shitebag again. Mind you maybe Grezda was a bad influence and if he goes it might get Barasic focused again1 point

Joe Aribo: Rangers sign midfielder from Charlton Athletic 27 June 2019 Image copyrightGETTY IMAGES Image captionJoe Aribo, right, scored 10 goals in 39 games for Charlton last term Rangers can turn Joe Aribo into an "even better player" after signing the midfielder from Charlton Athletic on a four-year deal, says Steven Gerrard. Aribo, 22, made 97 appearances and scored 16 goals for Charlton and helped them win promotion to the Championship last term through the play-offs. He has reportedly cost £300,000 because of cross-border transfer rules. "There were clubs in for Joe around Europe, in the Premier League and the Championship," manager Gerrard said. Jones out to 'prove a point' at Rangers "He's mobile, dynamic, can burst past a player and create and score goals. There is room for him to develop but he'll give us something we've not got in the midfield department. "We're confident we can turn Joe into an even better player. He's young and we firmly believe there is a lot to come from him, but we need to be patient in order to allow him to continue his development." The Ibrox side have signed Sheyi Ojo, Steven Davis, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Greg Stewart already this summer. They begin their season in the Europa League next month and will face either Prishtina or St Joseph's in the first qualifying round first leg on 11 July.1 point

Just my opinion but I think it will be a fresh start for Barisic and I expect him to impress in pre-season and make the position his own again for the start of the season. If we fly out of the blocks and play good attacking football in the 4-3-2-1, Barisic will flourish in that style of play with the whole wing more or less to himelf. I would expect him to get a lot of assists and be a constant threat. When we are not playing well or against higher quality opposition Flanagan may be a safer bet from a defensive point of view.1 point

Yes, I'm intrigued by our depth. (GK) McGregor | Foderingham (RB) Tavernier | Flanagan | Polster - (RCB) Goldson | Edmundson - (LCB) Katic | XX - (LB) Barasic | Halliday (DM) Davis | McCrorie (RCM) Kamara | Jack - (LCM) Aribo | Docherty (RF/RAM) Arfield | Candeias | Hastie - (LF/LAM) Ojo | Stewart | Jones | Murphy (ST) Morelos | Defoe | Rudden (?) Full-back looks light, and lacking quality. Edit: Forgot Polster. Another CB. Another central midfielder; although not a priority as we can cover. Edit: Docherty! Right-sided attacking player, maybe; although those six players could interchange. Edit: I was too Hasty, and forgot... Hastie. *Gets coat*1 point

I was listening on Saturday and they were honestly saying Arsenal wasn’t a big enough club for Tierney. And I’m sure they said Celtic should hold out for £30m. It was like listening to a Celtic fans podcast.1 point

How little many of us have to complain about. Compassion is all we have to offer those like Fernando who’ve been dealt a poor hand. So very sad.1 point
