  1. Back in the 70's there were no summer transfer window threads or transfer windows for that matter. Before I became old enough to do a paper round I had to walk down to John Menzies in Princess Street (Edinburgh) each summer morning to go through all the newspapers and see what was happening. An age that saw me so engrossed in the fitbaw, I hardly noticed the top shelf. The Sunday Mail was the required paper at the weekend as it always managed to have some kind of exclusive that actually was an exclusive.....and back in the day, it didn't register as too important that they seldom came to much. A paper round was my natural pathway to early comprehensive information and a degree of financial independence. I even managed to secure a spot within the distribution of the first edition of the Sunday Mail and Post round the pubs of a Saturday night when the tips made it worthwhile. That after doing the same with The Pink at about 5.30 on the Saturday night. An addiction of sorts to fitbaw gossip that was in the main bullshit. The mediums may have altered somewhat but the addiction is still there, only it's worse because I now fully comprehend that most of it is bullshit

  2. It's notable that Callum McGregor's big break came at Notts County in League 1 when he was 20, a year older than Middleton. I'm hoping he'll have a cracking season which will have a similar result acting as a springboard for him. I have no doubts of his ability.

  3. In my opinion it's a speculative investment. We put the Rangers brand in front of people in a country where interest in football, and disposable income, is growing. I also think that there is a market over there that is different to the European one. Consumers in China won't necessarily make decisions based on the quality of football. I've been over there a few times recently, and know a couple of people who have been living over there, and it surprised me to learn that some Chinese people already knew about Rangers. With regard to 'shoring up support in this country' I think that we already spend the overwhelming majority of our budget on that. Easily at the stage of diminishing marginal returns there.

  7. Fair enough, I suppose it's a terminology thing. My terminology is based on Champ Man 97/98.

  9. If we end up with anything remotely like Liverpool's front three, there will be many happy people on the Sou 'Side.

  10. I thought, for a moment, that he may have meant The Royal Artillery, but the RoI flag, and the name, Kevin McGroarty, swiftly disabused me of that notion.

  11. I see it more as inside forward-type position, more like Liverpool's front three. You wouldn't call Salah and Mane wingers, per se, or attacking midfielders, and they're not out-and-out strikers either.

  14. Celtic granted platinum license The SFA have published a dossier rating each Scottish Premiership club's stadium, first team, youth team and legal and adminstrative operations and granted licenses accordingly, report the Scottish Sun. Celtic are the only club to have recieved a platinum award, with Rangers being granted a silver. Hibernian, St Johnstone and St Mirren were awarded gold, Dundeeand Livingston were granted bronze, and the remaining five clubs were given silver. https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/17700088.celtic-granted-platinum-sfa-license-ojo-can-follow-kent-example/ ....And, no, I did not make this up.

  15. Stewart's best position is just off another striker, i.e. to a certain extent, the #10 a lot of fans have been looking for. I don't expect him to feature too much (especially if we get Kent and Ojo) but, when we're up against packed defences and when the wider players aren't effective, then that's when 'd expect Stewart to play as he's very good on the ball in tight situations and will create from slightly deeper areas. Ergo, if we look back to some games against Aberdeen where, too often, we were forced out wide and put in aimless crosses for McKenna and Devlin to deal with, that's when Stewart (and perhaps to a lesser extent Hastie) will be expected to offer something different.

  16. Stewart is an attacking midfielder, he won’t be playing in the striker’s position.

  17. ... and before people go link-hunting ... Pre-season is almost upon us as things begin to take shape on and off the park at Rangers https://fourladshadadream.blog/2019/06/11/pre-season-is-almost-upon-us-as-things-begin-to-take-shape-on-and-off-the-park-at-rangers/

  19. I agree the SNP will never allow a full and proper investigation and will protect Celtic at all costs. However, if it's not the SNP selling their souls for the Irish/catholic vote, it will be Labour doing the same thing. Scotland is basically run by and for a noxious minority

  22. All for differing opinions but Laudrup wasn't over-rated. Yes, he perhaps was never truly an elite player (and if you're playing with Rangers then it suggests you have some weaknesses compared to the very best) but he was fantastic for us and for Denmark so he was definitely levels above most typical Scottish/Rangers class players. Perhaps he was let down by other areas of the team at the time he played for us when it comes to our struggles in Europe but, in Scotland, he was unplayable for the vast majority of his time here and he'll always be a (or the) focal point of one our most successful periods in Scottish football.

  23. 100% agree. If anyone is any doubt that Laudrup was indeed 'world class' I suggest they watch the Brazil v Denmark World Cup quarter final match from 1998. Laudrup was astonishing in that game, a game a country of 5 million people had no right to be in, against the eventual World Cup runners up.

  24. I guess it depends on your definition of world class, and people could argue about that all day. Goram was world class, and arguably Butcher and possibly Gough were. However I would say that Laudrup is the best player to play in Scotland over the last 50 years, and arguably ever.

  25. Laudrup was a major factor in Denmark winning the Euros. That alone makes him world class in my book.
