  1. I don't think the Daily Bullshit printing batshit headlines will produce a queue of clubs who suddenly think you have to pay XXM for the player in question. That said, Lawwell and colleagues definitely conducted a fairly comprehensive PR campaign that always talked up various aspects of the club, whether it be potential fees or something to do with the mantra that 'Celtic are a CL Team' (stop laughing at the back). Whether I've not being paying so much attention, I don't know but that campaign of sorts seems to have been less intense for the past few months or so. However, it would be churlish not to recognise that the main reason they've made money on player trading is because they've brought through decent players and continue to do so. They have established a reputation of sorts (at least with Southampton) and last night's CL Final had two of those deals either playing or on the bench. What will increase the value of our players is their game, the level that they are playing at in the bigger games and especially if they are a major part of the club doing well in Europe, especially CL group stage (we were operating at provincial level from 2012 until Gerrard arrived). As a club we need to improve players instead of having them go backwards (over many years, this IMO has been our biggest single problem) We need to keep to a minimum signings with no sell-on value #veterans We need to improve recruitment We need to provide a pathway if investment in RYD is to pay off Don't employ Martin Bain In short, we need to be a better run club and it doesn't happen overnight.

  2. And still, not a peep from the SNP government. Normally you can’t keep these nationalist blowhards off the airwaves but things are obviously different when it comes to their football club.

  3. Easier to read: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/celtic-response-boys-club-child-16238857 Celtic response to Boys' Club child sex scandal has been woeful and an insult to abuse survivors Everyone’s heard the old saying about turning a drama into a crisis. Celtic yesterday took arguably the biggest crisis to have hit the club in its near 130-year history and turned it into an unmitigated catastrophe. The club, one of the country’s biggest institutions, has lurched from mishap to calamity in its failure to deal with an increasingly bleak emerging picture of a culture of child abuse at the feeder Boys’ Club. Celtic has the resources, the pull and the power to commission and act on a proper inquiry, conducted in public and led by a respected independent figure. It is certainly warranted. That a culture of historic abuse was allowed to pollute Celtic Boys’ Club over a period of decades has been proven beyond any doubt. Four men connected to either the Boys’ Club or the club have now been convicted of criminal offences. The fact that it needed a second criminal trial to get to the bottom of the evil perpetrated by one of these four disgraceful individuals, Jim Torbett, is further illustration of the need for the boil to be lanced. Instead, Celtic’s response has been woeful. Its expression of “deep regret that the incidents took place” while stressing that the club was “an entirely separate organisation” from the Boys’ Club in a statement following Torbett’s conviction fell badly short. Following the conviction of former kitman Jim McCafferty last month, the club issued another statement this time expressing “regret and sorrow” to victims but which stopped short of making a full apology. It also made no mention of the three previous cases which resulted in the convictions of Torbett, Frank Cairney and Gerald King. Neither did it cite the “investigation” which the club says has been running for two years and on which it briefed at least one news organisation on Friday. This was a development, which regrettably, insults both the intelligence of the Scottish public and, more seriously, abuse survivors themselves. In a letter sent to SNP MSP James Dornan, chief executive Peter Lawwell said the club was “constrained in what we can discuss owing to legal processes”. A surprising claim given the number of statements issued on the matter over the last two years. It is unclear what Lawwell could possibly mean by this – certainly there are no issues around the Contempt of Court Act as all known cases against former employees of the club and Boys’ Club have now been concluded. Lawwell went on to say: “Some time ago our insurers appointed a wholly independent and experienced lawyer who is investigating and dealing with the matter on behalf of the club.” That could be described as an “inquiry” by the club as it was in some quarters yesterday. It also sounds a lot like the club investigating what its own liabilities might be. We might never know because Celtic were not elaborating yesterday. They have not identified the lawyer who was commissioned, said when he or she was hired, provided any clarity on the scope of the investigation nor imparted any of its initial findings. How an organisation of this size can fail to see the problem of an investigation into a crime which relies on secrecy itself being conducted in secret, is almost beyond belief. Eight years ago, the American Football programme at Pennsylvania State University was hit by a sex abuse scandal following the conviction of a predatory coach Jerry Sandusky. Penn State, one of the most respected sporting institutions in the US, failed time and again to do the right thing by Sandusky’s survivors. The ensuing arguments ripped the university and the state apart, causing divisions that never healed. It might be worth the club’s senior executives examining that case and learning some of the lessons. The argument that Celtic is a different entity from the Boys’ Club should never be made again. A drip feed of evidence proving the extreme closeness of the two organisations has left that claim empty and irrelevant. It is not now too late for Celtic to commission and fund a real probe into why and how the bond of trust between young players, their parents and the club became so broken under previous regimes. If this was genuinely independently-led and conducted in public, it could provide closure for victims and finally resolve a running sore for an organisation which means so much to so many. In the meantime, the club should at the very least give an explanation of the exact terms of the current investigation. Otherwise they risk the appearance of using ham-fisted, retrospective crisis management instead of the access-all-areas inquiry the survivors are due. ` This is actually quite sinister, perhaps unsurprisingly: "Celtic has the resources, the pull and the power to commission and act on a proper inquiry, conducted in public and led by a respected independent figure." "It is not now too late for Celtic to commission and fund a real probe into why and how the bond of trust between young players, their parents and the club became so broken under previous regimes. If this was genuinely independently-led and conducted in public, it could provide closure for victims and finally resolve a running sore for an organisation which means so much to so many." So, rasellik should commission and fund an inquiry -into itself- one that is "proper" and "real", but one whose direction, extent (historic and otherwise), and terms of reference surely would have to be determined by itself, as it would be unwilling, or even unable, to offer a blank cheque for such an enterprise; and, of course, he who pays the piper, etc. The newspaper seems to suggest the following as the basis for a commissioning brief: "...why and how the bond of trust between young players, their parents and the club became so broken under previous regimes." i think we can all see the limitations of this proposal. Decades of pederasty, with the possibility of a paedophile ring operating via the Boys' Club and the parent organisation, and clear implication of these crimes being either wilfully ignored or wilfully concealed, reduced to establishing how a "bond of trust" came to be broken. Really? The inquiry would be a private investigation, albeit somehow "conducted in public", but which would have no statutory basis, indeed no basis in law, whatsoever, and thus would be incapable of compelling evidence. A full public enquiry is needed, with full statutory powers, and full exposure.

  4. We were good at developing keepers. Goram went from a good keeper at Hibs to one of the best on the planet while at Rangers. Klos was excellent when he arrived and remained excellent throughout his time with us. Antti Neimi couldn't break into our side but proved himself to be a very high quality keeper when he left. McGregor first time round was superb and is still very good even in the twilight of his career. Big Wes is a better keeper today than when he joined us. Liam Kelly's form with Livingston suggests our keeper development remains strong, hopefully the 'other' McCrorie will continue that run. Our inability to produce a forward player of any note since Robert Fleck is a source of some embarrassment though.

  5. Agree Gonzo. It's Rangers. There is no prefix. Stuff like this annoys me. It's up there with us not wearing our black and red socks or us wearing blue shorts (wtf). While I'm at it, there should never be red in our home shirt. Should always be just be blue with white detailing. Red was first introduced into our home shirt in 1978-79 after over 100 years without it being used #pedanticloyal

  6. Why are they holding an investigation into Celtic boys club if the organisation has nothing to do with them?

  8. I take it you weren't at Ibrox when Annan beat us? It was a terrible match last night though. Both teams seemed tired, lacking ideas and several top players had off nights. Origi looked truly awful, apart from his goal.

  12. Extremely poor game but at the end of the day I doubt anyone at Liverpool will care. If it were us would you prefer to lose an end to end classic by 4 goals to 3 or scrape a narrow win in a lackluster match? Afterwards I wouldn't care what it looked like providing our name was on the trophy. And it's not as if Liverpool have performed like this consistently. It was a rare off night perhaps compounded by a three week break since their last game. Same for Spurs. Plus if Liverpool go on to strengthen again during the close season they can be the terror of Europe and the EPL once again next season. Just one loss in the league and didn't win the title. Remarkable.

  14. Awful game. ‘Spurs not too bad box to box but could nothing within sight of goal until the 79th minute. Players of both teams looked paralysed with tension walking out of the tunnel. I like to see them looking grim (Shearer/Gough) or utterly gallus (Baxter) Gallus only works if you’ve got Baxter’s talent, though. Fans didn’t enjoy it either. ‘Spurs because of the early goal and Liverpool because they couldn’t add to it until the end.

  17. This 100% I can't remember us bringing a player in and then improving him. My memory isn't great so perhaps there are examples, but not nearly enough. in the past season however, in my opinion the coaching team has clearly made an improvement to: Morelos Goldson Katic Halliday Tav McCrorie Jack Kent If we can identify more high potential signings like Tav, Goldson, Kent and Morelos, we now have the management team to develop that potential before we sell them on for big profits.

  18. Damp squib of a Final that wasn't helped by the organisers delaying it so long, that the game was played in June. Good to see Gerrard there to sort out the Mane deal.

  19. St Mirren v Dundee Utd play off was better than that final. Absolute garbage match. Ajax and Barca would have been kicking themselves. It was mistake after mistake after mistake especially in the first half. Spurs big players didnt get going, Eriksson didnt do his move to Madrid any good as he had the worst game he will have. Alli who I think is over rated anyway was poor. Son got pass marks - just. Kane clearly wasnt fit and you cant blame Lucas for being pissed off for being dropped. For a tactical Genius Mo Po got this one wrong and should have played 5-3-2. Its the first game this season Liverpool didnt get any flow at all from midfield to the forwards, it was two goals from nothing. Two all english finals, two poor games. The likes of Bayern, Juve, Real, Barca and Ajax wont be fearing the English teams at all as said by some pundits - even Man City must be kicking themselves.

  20. Cannot speak about other men but I have some very strict rules when it comes to kit. I only support MY chosen team Glasgow Rangers and my country, the USA. I wear no man's name, as I am not his woman. I wear no other country, as that is treason.

  26. Okay i have never heard of the drink before today. When i played football it was Tea filled with masses of sugar. You all know from the podcast I am great at pronunciations so I will give this a go. I would say as there is a hyphen after the O it would be O as in Oh, Son as in Don and yq as in (h)ik. Oh'sonik. I could of course be wrong. Ps after editing that is the pronunciation. https://www.osonyq.com/ Staunch!!!!
