Great pod as usual guys. As always, I agree with some of it, disagree with some it, but enjoy all of it. I was surprised at how many of the guys on the pod agreed with @pete that Gerrard is to blame for sticking with Worrall and that cost us the league. I know we are all entitled to an opinion, but as @JohnMc has now coined the phrase "you are all wrong". ? Great to hear Graham give his opinions (and movie quote) on the pod and he's got to be involved more next season. It won't be long until we are back in action so have a well earned break from your duties and we will all look forward to more next season. Well done to you all ??????3 points

I put some thoughts down on it. Or recent events. One nagging issue is that coverage just doesn't fit. It's not organic or normal in the slightest. Which implies its been manipulated, apparently from all angles. https://uppingtheoutput.home.blog/2019/05/26/cynicism-and-consequences/ https://twitter.com/RickyBobby1872/status/11326584753712537603 points

I'll try my best to get on more often in the future with even more little Easter eggs for you @Gaffer. :D2 points

I do appreciate your point about loans, but I don't think our players were good enough to dislodge the loan players. In my opinion, Middleton just wasn't good enough to replace Kent, Katic was going through a real dip in form and so Worrel was quite rightly given the starting role, and earlier in the season, Coulibally and Ejaria were two of our best players so they couldn't be dropped either. I would rather we developed our own players, but the best place to do this for the ones that aren't good enough is out on loan elsewhere, like we did with Docherty. I'd personally take 11 loans for the first team next season if they were better than what we have.2 points

Signings and loan deals are similar in the respect that some will work and others won't. Ideally, you would restrict the number of both to only the ones that'll work for you,...the obvious problem is a lack of a crystal ball. SG knew about the Liverpool players who came on loan last season but one worked very well and the other fell off the rails after a run of inconsistent performances (although his goal in Ufa was very valuable). Perhaps we haven't quite reached the stage of having development players at a level to go into the first team but until this pathway starts to be trodden on a reasonably regular basis, the relative success of celebrated youth trophies rings hollow. At the same time, Gerrard has to deal with the pressure of the particular circumstances in front of him and pick eleven players who can consistently win games of football. The other issue you have with loan players who seem to find it easier to get a start is that it can't be good for the dressing room dynamic. One of the most important characteristics of a winning side is that the dressing room is together and too many players on loan will tend to dilute this. -------------------- Coulibally Ejaria Kent Sadiq Worrell Davis Defoe Looking at last years list and considering that our own youth development is a year further down the track, I'd try and restrict it to 2 loans maximum. Note that Davis and Defoe didn't work for what they were brought in for either, ie. they were brought in to help title challenge.2 points

The reason I state this is because when we were sent down and the team faced crushing economic troubles there were no more negatively vocal fanbase than Dundee United. https://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/opinion/13083473.spiers-on-sport-why-rangers-fans-seek-vengeance-on-dundee-united/ From what I have read they were/are vicious.2 points

That's always been my viewpoint too. Taking a seat on the board would effectively emasculate the main supporter organisation.1 point

Defoe has the best goals to minutes played ratio in the league at 118 minutes per goal. The best ratio the yahoos have is Edouard on 129 minutes per goal.1 point

Two things obvious:- 1) A slap in the face for Ryan Jack. 2) Obviously talks with so called "rebels" were to no avail. At least Jack can go through summer injury free.1 point

That's fair Frankie, but a few said they agreed with Pete so I didn't appreciate it was more the general point around missed opportunities. On reflection, Pete just sounds grumpy sometimes so that's why even his praise for Gerrard maybe still sounded like criticism ?1 point

Villa and Derby was a dire game to many slow players on both sides the villa number four was that slow I think I could have given him a runaround as for Ashley Cole slow in body and in head to old villa will need to spend the money wisely or it will be another Fulham.1 point

Thanks Buster. Hopefully i've kept it concise and factual and it lands under the right persons nose at some point. Annoyingly couldn't get the link to the tweet to work properly - if any admin want to fix?1 point

The league was indisputably there for the taking. Only 2 or 3 games or so where we could have taken the points made the difference the last game at the piggery being one of them. If we had won that piggery game and everything else panned out the same we would have finished on 81 points while they would have finished on 84. That close.1 point

Ahem, that is very simplistic a view, don`t you think? Steven Davis was signed in January, participated in 18 games, of which we lost three: - Kilmarnock away 1-2, he played 70 mins and assisted our goal - Celtic away 1-2, he played 2 (as in two) mins - Aberdeen home, cup 0-2, he played 10 (as in ten) mins. We won 13 games and drew the rest. IF ANYTHING, we signed him too late! He assisted three goals. Jermaine Defoe was signed in January, participated in 20 games, of which we lost four: - Kilmarnock away 1-2, he played 79 mins and scored our goal - Celtic away 1-2, he played 7 (as in seven) mins - Kilmarnock away 1-2, he played 9 (as in nine) mins - Aberdeen home, cup 0-2, he played 24 mins. We won 13 games and drew the rest. IF ANYTHING, we signed him too late! He has 8 goals and 7 assists to his name with us.1 point

Absolutely. Our fans like to say ah it's easy for Hearts to play youth players, they don't have the pressure but we have to win everything. I think this is totally wrong. How much would Levein love to have the luxury of blooding youth players when he's coasting 3-0 up. Hearts are never in that position, almost every game could go either way for them and dropped points normally means dropping a position. We won 13 domestic games by at least 3 goals this season but the most appearances made by our youth players (bar Middleton) was 1 and my guess is that they were late substitutions. I think that is a very poor show indeed. Edit: And even Middleton himself should have seen far more game time in those circumstances1 point

I'd accept your point wrt Kent but not the others. The others had their moments but quickly drifted into inconsistency that should have meant less starts IMO. Docherty is the type of player I'd like to see in our squad next season rather than a Coulibally or an Ejaria. I'm convinced we'll get more out of him #StuartMcCall21 point

Good post that sums up how most fans feel I think. This is the bit that worries me though, it seems that clauses of some sort are non-negotiable now. Many have forgotten now that Ejaria was undroppable while he was here. Personally I wasn't happy that Kent was undroppable during the busy spell of the season too. A full 90 minutes 7 times in a month was unnecessary with a Middleton who had started the season very strongly on the bench and who had racked up goals and assists very quickly. There was no squad rotation. I suspect Gerrard will restrict himself to one loan this season and it will be a player who he has a lot of faith in (Ojo it seems).1 point

Sunderland fail true to form. Charlton a much better team. Villa manage to hold off Derby. They should be a Premier League team but probably need eleven new players.1 point

This was a useful meeting in terms of letting fans ask questions and comment on all aspects of the Club. The number was small enough to enable everyone to have their say. This was the last in a day of meetings that Greg had with supporters groups, mainly RSCs. The main topic of conversations with them was regarding away tickets and their allocation. It’s always difficult when demand far exceeds supply. There were some comments on whether we should be giving some of these clubs money and some concerns about the pricing of away games. There were also concerns raised re the Compliance Officer and her apparent Celtic bias. The lack of transparency of the process was also mentioned. The Club also shares these concerns. Greg was unable to comment on Rangers Retail due to the ongoing court case. Greg was asked about Project 2022. An internal group has been formed to help with ideas and potential fundraising. An individual is helping the Club to forge relationships with external groups that could be involved with major infrastructure projects in the future. Greg was asked if there would be a further share issue this year. It was pointed out that a motion was passed at the AGM to enable this to happen. A discussion ensued about whether Club 1872 should have a seat on the Board as the second highest shareholder. The feelings amongst the group were mixed. A survey has taken place re stadium improvements. Some of this will be funded by the Rangers Pools. someone suggested having solar panels on the roof. There was doubt about being able the do anything to the Main Stand but Greg said he would ask the question. The Elinor contract still has 3-4 years to run. The Club still makes money from it but there are thoughts that we can do better. The new Commercial Director has an excellent CV and will control all commercial activity, including PR. The Club is looking to erect a 4G mast to enable fans to use their phones during matches. The meeting lasted about one and a quarter hours. Greg did say that things wouldn’t dramatically change as a result of the meetings but it would give management and directors a flavour of fans views. As a final note, Greg is a great guy and listens to the Gersnet podcast?1 point

I'd say it's unlikely. If we get a good draw, it is possible but when you get to the 3rd qualifying round, there's some quality sides in there. Mind you, I thought we had no chance last year and Gerrard seems quite good at setting up the side to be difficult to beat.1 point
