What a load of waffle. They offer sincere sympathy(if you choose to believe that) but nothing else. They are refusing to take vicarious responsibility for their employees, nor any blame for allowing these crimes to go unreported. As a comfort statement for the survivors and their families it is a non-starter.2 points

I've no particular dog in this fight but I do think you're being harsh on Ajax here. Feyonoord didn't make it to the Champion's League semi-final playing some sensational football whilst defeating Juventus and Barcelona along the way. That's what makes Ajax so appealing to old duffers like me who are hacked off how a handful of Spanish and English sides can simply buy anyone they want and dominate football. It's great to see a side we can realistically hope to emulate doing that. Also, when you add in former Ajax players like Eriksen, Alderweireld, and Vertoghen being in the side that put them out as a neutral you have to say as a club they're pretty impressive. I'm sure it pisses off some Dutch (and Scots apparently) but Ajax have a mystique about them, since the 70s they consistently produced world class footballers, even when they themselves weren't doing anything on the international stage, their alumni were. Plus that banner when they last played Celtic, clearly not fancying a 'special relationship' and letting them know it made me laugh.2 points

More than 43,000 supporters had renewed for the new campaign by Monday night’s deadline, a record number. Rangers fans will be accommodated in the Broomloan Stand again next season for Old Firm matches, with only around 800 briefs made available to Celtic supporters. The current figure is up 5,000 on the same stage last season, when a subsequent public offering saw ticket sales hit an historic high of just over 45,000. That’s the number at which season tickets sales must be capped as a result of the Ibrox capacity of 50,000. The 45,000 barrier is expected to be smashed again in the coming days through the public sale, raking in around £20 million for the club. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-fans-back-steven-gerrard-16190261?12 points

I've got some sympathy for Clyde on this. Firstly I think we have to accept that child abuse is a very difficult subject to talk about on a sport's programme. Super Scoreboard has a wide audience age wise, that creates problems in subject matter, it's on in the early evening when children could be listening. Personally I'd turn over a programme that was discussing child abuse if my 11 year old was listening. It's not an appropriate subject and it is most certainly not an appropriate programme to be discussing it. Secondly no one on that programme is even remotely qualified to discuss the subject matter. I mean the presenters and guests struggle to say anything vaguely informative on football, what possible insight could they bring to this subject? And a phone-in on it is a horrifying thought. I understand why some people feel there's double standards being displayed. After all no one on Super Scoreboard is an insolvency or tax expert yet they were happy to discuss and comment on that for months on end. However, I think there's a huge difference between spouting ill-informed gibberish about EBTs and spouting it about a paedophile ring. For me the latter is a subject that should only be covered by the 'news' shows. Whilst it concerns a 'sports' club it's not a suitable story for sport journalists to cover. It's news story, it's a big news story, potentially a huge one. A paedophile ring operating inside one of the biggest and most successful sporting institutes in this country, apparently for decades, requires a level of investigation and analysis no sport's programme is capable of providing. I agree with those that have called for a public enquiry, that's not point scoring either. I knew boys who played for Celtic Boys Club, their families were so proud of them. Even as a Rangers supporter you recognised the kudos that came with being able to say you were good enough to play for them. Evil, evil men preyed on young boys, deceived their families, lied and abused their positions and ultimately destroyed the lives of who knows how many people. That shouldn't be allowed to simply be forgotten.2 points

Wouldn’t matter where he went, there are scum arse holes everywhere! The climate here enables anyone to feel we are fair game, home or abroad, as the club and culture has been demonised for years. He could bump into them anywhere, and to be honest, imo he shouldn’t have to watch his back from sectarian bigoted scum here, let alone on holiday. Imagine the social meltdown and victim hood had it been someone from Shame FC?1 point

Mark Daly has said that they haven't used the word the victims would want to hear (sorry), they've waited 10 days since the conviction of McCafferty and they've released it on a huge UK news day. He's absolutely spot on. They are so flippin' obvious.1 point

St Pats FC Statement JAMES McCafferty has pled guilty to offences he committed against young people between 1972 and 1996. Celtic Football Club wishes to express its regret and sorrow to those young people. McCafferty, who was employed by Celtic Football Club in the mid 1990s, committed these acts many years ago across a number of organisations, and all those who have come forward to report abuse and to give evidence deserve enormous praise for the courage they have shown. We offer our sincere sympathy to those young people, their families and all those involved. These are very sensitive issues, particularly for those who suffered abuse. When the allegations were published in the media in 2016, Celtic Football Club encouraged any individuals involved to report all information to the police so that these matters could be investigated fully and the Club continues to encourage any victim of abuse to report these matters to the police. Celtic Football Club takes all of its responsibilities seriously, stands by its responsibilities and will continue to do so. The abuse of children has affected many areas of society, including football clubs, sports clubs, youth organisations, educational institutions and religious bodies across Britain. Celtic Football Club strongly believes that children and young people involved in football have the right to protection from all forms of harm and abuse and is committed to ensuring this and to promoting their wellbeing through continued cooperation with our children and young people, parents and carers and the relevant authorities. Celtic Football Club was the first club in Scotland to appoint a safeguarding officer, responsible for developing our policies for the protection of young people, and monitoring and reviewing our procedures to ensure they continue to reflect best practice. http://www.celticfc.net/news/162191 point

Good summary from VB. It’s hard to understand why any Rangers supporter would ever vote for the SNP ... but some will find a way to justify it to themselves.1 point

The nonsense part was that we would've won the league if Katic had played every game, and that it was as simple as SG being too loyal to Worrall. I think there was a run of games where he went off the boil, quite badly. He deserved and needed to be dropped. There was also a bad injury and quite serious issues behind the scenes where -- someone can correct me if I'm wrong -- it was questioned whether he would ever play for us again? I may be remembering that wrongly, or it was pure speculation. Stewarty perhaps has a point too about the loan agreement coming into it. The length of that spell was too long, though.1 point

Anyone in any doubt that people connected to Rangers have been systematically demonised these last 7 years just needs to look at the attacks on them. It really beggars belief.1 point

Sensitivities. I am in France at the moment, thus listening to the Beeb is confined to the world service. On Sunday last, ra Sellik played their final league fixture of the season against Hearts. There's a trophy to b e presented at the culmination of the game, before kick-off, Hearts provided a guard of honour. Hearts have three strips, a home, an away, and a third. They wore their third kit, an all darkish blue affair. Neither of the other two would have clashed, but they could have provided severe embarrassment to a most sensitive Sellik and their support. Both have the sponsorship across the chest, 'Save the Children'. In a week where the MSM in Scotland finally grew a set and challenged Sellik on their separate entity line, it was felt Hearts providing a guard of honour with Save the Children featuring prominently would be taking the pysh. A senioor Scots club had to wear a third non-sponsorship strip to assuage Sellik. Apparently, this was the talk of Sunday night's Sportswriters bash. It was wondered aloud why so many Hearts supporters inside PQ decided to ignore the happening? Particularly, those on the satirical side of things. A proud sponsor ie 'Save the Children' relegated to save Peter et al, from an awkward and inconvenient situation. I left the UK, just after the last old firm game(I know the term annoys some at PQ). On the Saturday, Shereen Nanjiani presented her ninety minute show and for the first time in four/five weeks, Angela Haggerty was a guest. It was the week of English sides Euro comebacks and the topic was raised. We learned from Angela has no English team, all her love is confined to ra Sellik, and the greatest comeback of all time occurred in Lisbon'67. Angela's disappearance from the show coincided with the IRA's murder of Lyra McKee, a young Journalist from Belfast. Angela's last utterance on the Beeb before popping up on Shereen's; was to demand full prosecution of 'Soldier F', but explained no prosecution of IRA members could take place because as of the Good Friday Agreement, "they are a defunct organisation". Now, we can see why Angela has been missing, awkward! Just like when her co-founder of 'Call it Out' Jeanette Findlay's place of work, Glasgow University received letter bombs from the IRA a couple of months past, Angela is conveniently withdrawn hors de combat. A lot of the nationalist contributors to PQ have a huge problem with Lyra McKee's murder, in fact they refuse to refer to her passing as murder. DrStu' informed us that her classification of death is, 'by crossfire'. I though you needed two sides shooting for such an occurrence? Shona Craven of the National on the Beeb was at pains to describe the poor girl's passing, "we need a new classification". Dr Eamonn O'Neill was adamant, "Lyra was not targeted". Just like old firm becoming an unacceptable term at PQ, 'IRA murder' is also beyond the pale. I will leave it up to Father Edward Magill who conducted Lyra's service at St Anne's in Belfast, "why did it take the murder of a 29 year old girl ......."? If we accept the language of our opponents, then we have already lost the debate.1 point

Part of the frustration is that the subject is not being properly discussed in the mainstream press and there has been a level of cover-up going on. JohnMc makes an excellent argument for it not being included on SSB, which could be an avenue for discussion, but would more likely end up being point scoring, but Clyde are not offering a more suitable forum either, as far as I'm aware, and are therefore involved in the MSM cover-up.1 point
