Moonlighter, I don’t think enough can be said to commend the brilliant work you and others do to bring alive the long history of our club for each new generation. Sincere thanks.8 points

I've got some sympathy for Clyde on this. Firstly I think we have to accept that child abuse is a very difficult subject to talk about on a sport's programme. Super Scoreboard has a wide audience age wise, that creates problems in subject matter, it's on in the early evening when children could be listening. Personally I'd turn over a programme that was discussing child abuse if my 11 year old was listening. It's not an appropriate subject and it is most certainly not an appropriate programme to be discussing it. Secondly no one on that programme is even remotely qualified to discuss the subject matter. I mean the presenters and guests struggle to say anything vaguely informative on football, what possible insight could they bring to this subject? And a phone-in on it is a horrifying thought. I understand why some people feel there's double standards being displayed. After all no one on Super Scoreboard is an insolvency or tax expert yet they were happy to discuss and comment on that for months on end. However, I think there's a huge difference between spouting ill-informed gibberish about EBTs and spouting it about a paedophile ring. For me the latter is a subject that should only be covered by the 'news' shows. Whilst it concerns a 'sports' club it's not a suitable story for sport journalists to cover. It's news story, it's a big news story, potentially a huge one. A paedophile ring operating inside one of the biggest and most successful sporting institutes in this country, apparently for decades, requires a level of investigation and analysis no sport's programme is capable of providing. I agree with those that have called for a public enquiry, that's not point scoring either. I knew boys who played for Celtic Boys Club, their families were so proud of them. Even as a Rangers supporter you recognised the kudos that came with being able to say you were good enough to play for them. Evil, evil men preyed on young boys, deceived their families, lied and abused their positions and ultimately destroyed the lives of who knows how many people. That shouldn't be allowed to simply be forgotten.6 points

‘’Thus ended their first match played at the latter end of May 1872 some two months after the inauguration of the club’’. The words of Rangers player William Dunlop from his article The Rangers FC which he wrote so eloquently for the SFA Annual in 1881 using the pen name ‘True Blue’. Rangers Football Club played it’s first ever match 147 years ago this week. Our Club was formed on a spare bit of ground at Fleshers Haugh by a few kids who’d come to Glasgow seeking employment and a better way of life. Their Club ,which they formed for no other reason than the love of football and the pursuit of sporting excellence, would go on to become the world’s most successful. That first ever match was against Callander and ended 0-0, Willie continued, “Their first game was a terrible spectacle with the ball suffering an incredible amount of abuse” William McBeath was given man of the match and then spent a week in bed recovering due to his exertions’’ Founder William McBeath was from Callander and we believe it would have been Willie who approached ex-pats from the town who had settled in Glasgow and that’s probably where the opposition came from for our first match. Willie’s Rangers team-mate Sam Ricketts wrote in 1884 about the boys playing those first few games in their civvies and journalist John Allan wrote about them having to change behind a bush as there were no facilities. William Dunlop described how genial Peter McNeil would travel on a Saturday morning to a desirable part of the Glasgow Green, set up the noted standards and stand guard until the classic hour came when he would be joined by his friends. We felt this was a very dramatic and moving image and commissioned a painting to be done depicting this scene. We presented the painting by artist Helen Runciman to the Club in 2009 and it now hangs on the marble staircase at Ibrox. The Rangers would remain at Fleshers Haugh for three years . They then began their journey around Glasgow to Burnbank and Kinning Park before finally settling in the Ibrox area in 1887. For me,the POTY isn’t necessarily the player whose personal performances have stood out most but the player whose presence in the team has had the most overall effect on the performance of the whole team in the most games. In my opinion that player has been Ryan Jack.2 points

I've went for Arfield. I think he's been at the centre of our best performances and has been the most missed when out. Tav has been excellent at times. Would be happy to see him get the vote too. A few months ago i wouldve said Morelos, by a long way, but he ruined it with the red at celtic.2 points

Tav for me. He has been the driving force in our attacking play and leads by example.2 points

There is no doubt that Morelos has been excellent this season but he would have been third on my list. Tav was the best for me, followed by Kent (yes, I know I'm becoming a bit of a fan boy). Tav had a lot on his shoulders this season and I think he's really grown into the role of captain. I'd have gladly seen him sold at the end of last season if anyone was willing to pay a couple of million for him. What a difference a year makes because now I wouldn't sell him for less than 10m. I can also understand Arfield getting votes and perhaps if it was the player so far of 2019 he'd get it, but he didn't find his feet until December in my opinion. He's been superb since then though. Im just delighted we have plenty of contenders this season. At the end of last season it was more of a "Gersnet Forum Least Worst Player of the Year 17/18".2 points

I went for Morelos. Best player in the team, best player in Scotland. Top scorer in Scotland. Was a stand-out in so many games throughout the season and seemed to be a one man team at times. Yes, there were issues but he was refereed differently from every other player in Scotland, and the authorities gave the opposition free reign to assault him (eg Broadfoot and Brown). Sent off several times incorrectly. His reputation seems to have suffered due to the team playing well recently following a change in formation but that's due to the formation and not him being out of the team and it shouldn't be forgotten that he carried us for much of the season.2 points

Easy choice for me, Tav has been our most consistent player.2 points

History will remember him fondly as the captain who helped steer us back to the top flight. A great servant to the club and wish him every success in the future.2 points

Here's a deal..........File it under "nothing is forgotten" but then forget it.1 point

Good question. He's certainly not the most mobile but he has the guile, creativity and goalscoring ability to play in the 2 beside Arfield. Mobility is the obvious concern but if he got fully fit he can more than make up for that with his quality.1 point

The work done is fantastic and having also done the Founders Trail tour I would recommended it to all,I know some of you are non-resident here but should you manage to return/visit put it on your bucket list, you won't be dissapointed.1 point

it's outrageous, and wrong, that a final is played in a country where the safety of the players is not guaranteed. Baku is west of Ufa, hence west of the Urals, and hence, using the old boundary approximation, in Europe. Quite far south, right enough.1 point

Nah, you're all wrong so far. POTY is Connor Goldson, the most under-rated player in our side. He's the defensive colossus the side's been built around, that's transformed our 'goals against' column this season. He's had to work with 3 different centre-half partners, yet has maintained a level of consistency that we simply now take for granted. He's been almost ever present, playing 54 matches. His discipline is exceptional, only 10 bookings all season and no red cards, unusual for a centre half in modern football, particularly when playing for Rangers. Most importantly he didn't give the ball away at Parkhead in the last minute for no explicable reason. BTW No Candieas in the poll? His stats are better than Kent's, he just does it with less fuss.1 point

McGregor . Without doubt the only player that has performed consistently, and to the level that is required at Rangers. He's been an influence in many other ways too. Wee blip at the end there, but he can be forgiven for that.1 point

It's a damned close run thing, between Tavenier and Morelos, who have both been outstanding, for different reasons. Tavenier has been a machine all season long, but Morelos has scored 30 goals, without penalties, and, well, everybody loves a goalscorer. Rangers, as we know, is refereed -and, largely, re-refereed by Mhystic Mheg, and her predecessors- to a standard different to that applied to the other teams of the SPL, or, indeed, of the whole SPFL. In this context, it is noticeable that the "temperamental Latin, from an area notorious for cocaine production, even within the world's largest cocaine producing country", is himself judged by officialdom using a yardstick beyond even that experienced by the rest of the team; and, it goes almost without saying, he is afforded no protection on the pitch. Off the pitch, we have to consider the almost constant, histrionic, vilification he receives from that shallow, partisan, gaggle of mountebanks and mutual masturbators, which masquerades as Scottish fitba' media. So, for his goals, and for the fact that he has continued to score, in the face of officiating from plain bad, at best, to plain biased, at worst, via the merely prejudiced ( influenced by the off field antipathy, and a background noise of hateful hysteria, well beyond fair comment) my vote goes to the Colombian Thunderboots. ,1 point

I was surprised not to see you challenging ! Rousseau, is there a historic list of winners of the prediction League available ? @Rousseau1 point

Morelos for me. He carried the team for long periods, but no complaints if Tav get it. He has been very consistent and we missed him on Sunday.1 point

Frankie, I dont think you would have started this thread 12 months ago so it says testiment to the progression made - is that fair? So its refreshing to see we can have this again and says we are rebuilding. It was always going to be a bit of a lengthy one to get back to the top. For Tav to get near 20 from full back is astonishing figures but ive always always been a winger fan and I just voted Kent. I think he has everything in his locker to become a top notch player.1 point

Tav by a distance Best signing we have made in years For what they have actually done, IMO he's worth more than Morelos................but it's Alfredo's potential that increases his value.1 point
-
Very hard to argue against Tavernier, or Morelos. I peeked at the results before submitting and thought Arfield deserved a vote. He's been a wonderful signing, and now that he's playing in a formation that suits his attacking play, he's been a stand-out. Even when the team wasn't playing well, Arfield always put in a shift.1 point
-
You mean scoring? I love Tav, so I'm not going to say anything negative to justify my choice of Morelos.1 point
-
FWIW, I've went for James Tavernier. Although his form has dipped now and again, over the piece he's been first class from start to finish this season. He's played almost all of our 60 games, has scored and contributed to many vital goals (especially pressure penalties) and has led by example across our all campaigns. In many ways, the best method to judge his contribution is when he plays badly: quite simply the team struggles then as well.1 point

As Buster said, thanks to everyone who has been involved in putting these together. I've thoroughly enjoyed them. It's been great to get to know many of the Gersnet forum members' voices and personalities more through the pods. The content has been really interesting, insightful, and at times very funny. Well done guys!!!!1 point

Isn't this where someone inserts several smileys or an "Aren't you getting tired of criticising the SNP?" comment? Or is it not so amusing or easy to defend this time?1 point

A great article from his good lady epitomising what he done for our club. I am sure the multitude of us on here and the whole fan base thank Lee for his service to our club. Thanks Lee for all you done and good luck for the future.1 point

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say he's part of the problem. When elected public officials join in the coverup you know the network that left a paedophile ring free to practice covers a lot more ground than Parkhead.1 point

No need to give the Scum supporting paper clicks ... https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/rangers-star-jon-flanagan-errant-16165936 Lovely headline there and Gannon writes of elbow and forearm smashs ... interesting anatomy study there. Interestingly enough, he skips the point that various incidents from Yahoo players weren`t cited or sanctioned ... but the season`s objective - i.e. preventing SG snatching a title has been accomplished already. So let`s do away with the system before it becomes even more obvious. BTW, people do talk about VAR and that it may help. "May" is the correct word here, as we have to remember who will sit behind the monitors. For those will come from the same pool of referees who managed to turn blind eyes on the Yahoos` fouls as well as from those three who wanted to punish Flanagan unanimously (sic!) despite his foul being no more than a yellow card. Does anyone expect a quantum leap in quality there?1 point
