Club 1872 has today written to Glasgow City Council Leader, Susan Aitken, regarding press reports of her comments in a closed Facebook group for Glasgow SNP councillors. A copy of the letter is below and we look forward to receiving a timely reply from Councillor Aitken to what we consider to be a very serious matter. “Dear Councillor Aitken, I am writing to you on behalf of Club 1872, a Rangers supporters group with over 7000 members and the second largest shareholder in Rangers International Football Club PLC, regarding comments you made in a closed Facebook group (Glasgow City SNP Councillors) which have been the subject of recent press reports. As you may be aware, we have submitted a Freedom of Information request in the past few days for everything posted in that group relating to Rangers FC and Club 1872. It appears that the group was being used to discuss council business that should have been subject to our previous FOI enquiry, but no posts from that group were included in the response to our previous request. What we know already is that you used the group to ask fellow SNP Councillors to share a photograph of Labour Councillor, Frank McAveety attending a match at Ibrox in 2015. This appears to be in response to comments made by Mr McAveety about your role in denying Rangers the opportunity to host a Fanzone at Ibrox in 2018. Can you clarify why you believed this photo to be relevant to those matters and explain why you felt it appropriate to ask SNP Councillors to share this information publicly? Is it your belief that Mr McAveety’s attendance at Ibrox should be portrayed in a negative light? If so, perhaps you can explain why? Many elected officials attend sporting events throughout Glasgow and it is disturbing that you appear to believe that attendance at Ibrox is something which should be frowned upon. Mr McAveety is a well known Celtic supporter, and therefore any suggestion that he attended the match at Ibrox to gain favour from Rangers, or vice versa, would be ridiculous. Your decision to focus on this one event appears to have been motivated by a desire to cast doubt on Mr McAveety’s legitimate criticisms and divert attention from questions about your own conduct where Rangers Football Club is concerned. Rangers Football Club is a major employer in Glasgow and works extensively to positively support communities in Govan, Glasgow and throughout Scotland. The many thousands of Rangers supporters who live in the Glasgow area should be able to rely on elected officials to treat them and their football club fairly at all times. Furthermore, those in public life who question conduct that appears to be unfair or discriminatory should be able to do so freely without being smeared in an attempt to discredit their input. Yours sincerely, Laura Fawkes Club 1872 Director On behalf of the Club 1872 board” Issued by Supporters Voice Limited, a Club 1872 company http://club1872.co.uk/news/club-1872-letter-to-councillor-susan-aitken/4 points

If he can stay fit, that comment is nothing but conjecture. I'd love to see him succeed at Rangers.2 points

Sunday against Hibs will mark yet another week and still no sign of Honest Willie Collum refereeing a Rangers game. What on Earth could the reason be? ? Since Collum last refereed a Rangers game on 3rd November we've had Craig Thomson 4 times, Bobby Madden 4 times, Nick Walsh 4 times, John Beaton 4 times, Alan Muir 3 times, Steven McLean 3 times, Don Robertson 3 times, Kevin Clancy 3 times, Andrew Dallas twice and Euan Robertson and Greg Aitken once each. I make that 32 league and cup games without the pleasure of Willie Collum's particular brand of impartiality. In that same period Willie Collum has officiated 4 time in Celtic games. Some might interpret that as the SFA confirming his unsuitability to referee fairly where Rangers is concerned.1 point

I went to suffer another game against Hibs after the 3 Cup games. A league game that was left over at Easter Road. Surreal atmosphere with hardly anybody there ! Can't remember the score, only Ally Brazil coming in for lots of stick as we and he could hear each shout clearly, in a near empty ground.1 point

Same, I think if he stayed injury free he would be a fantastic player, it's a big IF unfortunately though.1 point

With powers like that on offer, it'd be remiss of me not to give your details to Mark Allen. Expect a PM1 point

Well there goes the league though we expected that. Doesn’t really matter what happens now though I still want to give hubz a hammering.1 point

Like the look of the guy, you can tell like that sometimes, looks like a committed defender to me.1 point

Had forgotten all about him. Hopefully he has been noticed at Bury and we can get £2M for him, which is small change for a Championship club down there. He has no future here IMO, we already have much better options and are looking to strengthen.1 point

I note that Mexer will be 31 years of age in September. I'm usually a bit of a transfer gossip ageist critic but I'm not that bothered when it comes to central defence, aslong as they don't have significant injury history and obviously can play a bit.1 point

Emery's Arsenal will go to Valencia after scoring three in London. Emery was in charge of Valencia when we were playing them on CL duty, unfortunately we couldn't stop the getting the three goals. It was a long time ago (2010) but some things don't change, Lafferty was brought on as an 83rd minute substitute for Edu, just as nearly nine years later, he was brought on as an 83rd minute substitute for Defoe at Tynecastle a couple of weeks ago. For the record, McGregor and Davis started both games as well.1 point

It's amazing how many people didn't like me saying you can't vote SNP and be a Rangers supporter. Amazing because I've never actually said that. What I have said is that there is a natural incompatibility between the two. This is hardly a secret, with SNP using every opportunity to disadvantage Rangers. It's not difficult to overcome this incompatibility of course and many do just that, the fact there are clearly Rangers fans who vote SNP is obvious evidence of this. But it takes compromise to accommodate two diametrically opposed views. You can pretend there is no conflict, when there clearly is. Or you can take the view one is simply more important than the other. What you can't do is be honest AND lend wholehearted support to both. If you're in this unfortunate situation, it's entirely your own business how you reconcile it with your conscience but at least make some effort to admit the basic truth. There are a number of members and many in the wider Rangers support who DO refuse to criticise the SNP when it disadvantages Rangers, which is proof enough for me that what I've said is true The near-hysterical response to my earlier post from predictable directions only reinforces that view.1 point
