  1. Five years ago Sandy Jardine passed away. A great player and a man who never stopped doing his best for Rangers Football Club.

  2. All in all, an agreeable interview. Although I wish our club would avoid giving interviews to the gutter press. Any Bear who buys that rag needs to have a re-think.

  3. What makes it even sadder is that these top players were also brimming with class. If we go back to that era, we could easily name at least 20 players who not only could play football, but who wore the jersey with pride, and exhibited the style, class and character we could be proud of. Over the past 30 years I can hardly come up with more than 2 or 3 I would hold in the same regard. In Jardine's time the badge meant something, and even when they weren't wearing the blazer or jersey, they knew the club's image was reflected in them. I wish players these days would exhibit more of the commitment and class these guys did.

  4. I think you've described politicians in general there though. I've noticed over the past 10 years in particular that politicians can now blatantly lie about serious issues and get away with it. Wars, tuition fees, and BrExit are prime examples, and there's no end in sight. I do appreciate you've got a particular problem with the SNP, but who can we vote for that would make a difference? I have honestly no idea, and neither do many people I speak to. I think that's a wider issue though.

  5. Fair enough. Membership of the Orange Order in Scotland is put at around 50,000, although the last 'big' walk in Glasgow had around 10,000 participants. The population of the city of Glasgow is around 600,000. It seems to me that most people in the city have no direct connection, I don't think I'm spreading falsehoods by stating that Barca. I'm not particularly popular on here, or in 'real life' either Barca, but it's kind of you to assume otherwise. You are correct, my statement was entirely anecdotal and based on what I see and hear among my finite group of acquaintances. I don't think it's stretching credibility to state that organisations like the Orange Order are less popular today than 10 years ago far less 30 years ago. That's not just here but in Northern Ireland too. For a variety of reasons fraternal organisations have become less popular in the last 30 years, be they trade unions, youth organisations, churches or the Orange Order. I'm not trying to slander them, it's just the way it is, I think.

  6. It's not an exact comparison though BD, is it. If you were standing outside your Orange Hall for example and some sort of Independence march went past and someone following it spat on you then I think you could in all reasonableness request no more of that type of march go past your premises, and the police would probably back you on that. All future 'walks' haven't been banned as far as I know. I think Glasgow Council, indeed most councils and the police, would probably be quite happy if there was a complete ban on Orange walks. That's the direction of travel currently, bams spitting on priests will only speed that up.

  7. As one who remembers McNeill only as Billy McBungle from his second spell as manager, I won’t be joining in with the faux praise of what a legend he was. Absolutely disgusting that this horrible disease took an otherwise fit man away from his family and I wish his family comfort as they come to terms with their loss, and what must have been a horrible to watch decline in his health as it took a hold on his life. Like all big names in our society, their death creates this industry of mourning, endless tributes, and over the top praise. It is truly nauseating and I have been trying hard to avoid all this endless guff over the last few days. I was at the funeral of a good friend’s wife last week, with 3 fantastic memorial speeches from her daughter, brother and nephew at a packed out crematorium. No news items, no scarves at the statues, but as big a loss to her family as McNeill’s loss will be to his. IMO we should be far more respectful of the dead and not turn it into this circus it has become.

  8. They should just re-name Call It Out 'We Hate H*ns". Because that's exactly what it is.

  9. Rangers did everything by the book and contacted Motherwell first and I was told at no time did Rangers pull out of the deal, it was all paper talk and obviously Jake's agent was talking to other clubs as well. I was told by Jake's dad the only club that kept Motherwell out the loop was Celtic and they also did this when they tried to sign him when he was 16 and that was a big reason he didn't go to them.

  10. I met Jake Hastie's parents today and I'm sure they will be OK for me to say a few things they told me. Firstly they told me Jake had signed before it was on the news (also told me keep quiet until it was out in the news but that didn't last long), they also told me a few stories about when they met with Gerrard and Allen etc last week. They were assured by them that Jake will be in the first team squad and won't be loaned out or put back to the academy team as they had their own reservations about getting game time and how it would affect Jake's progress and seen no point in signing if he wasn't going to be in the first team squad. But they also told me Gerrard told them it's now up to Jake to prove himself in training that deserves a chance but they all rate him very highly, more so than Middleton. Aberdeen guaranteed him first team football but changed their deal at the last minute but he didn't fancy it anyway. The tims again went about trying to get the deal done on the cheap and they were not impressed at all and was never really a goer. He also had offers from England and abroad but like before they want to stay in Scotland for now anyway. He's been told he'll be lucky to get any more game time at Motherwell and was snubbed at the awards last night by virtually everyone there. I'm so pleased for the young man and his family and hope he takes his chance and does very well for us....

  11. As a member of a bowling club I have been to many funerals of fellow members and members of other clubs and all have been as you describe. Also I have lost many family and relatives as well as many good friends again services etc. have been as you describe. As a Rangers fan I have attended memorial games respecting the loss of some of our own, observed respectful silences and expect to do so again as time goes on,as many on here have no doubt done the same and will do again. We had the outpouring of grief with Davie Cooper and Sandy Jardine to name but two and they were also respected by other teams fans so the attention given to the late Billy McNeill is warranted as he was a great servant to football both club and country.

  12. City now 2-0 up on United with 20 mins remaining in what has been a decent game. With Arsenal 3-1 down at Wolves, it looks like both the title race, and the money chase for 3rd/4th are going to go right to the wire. I don’t have an English team I follow, I tend to follow teams that play good football which for me is Man City & Spurs. Liverpool can play some good stuff at times too but I find it hard to like them under Klopp and their nauseating fans. So im hoping for a City title, Spurs to make top 4, and I’m not really bothered which of the other 3 get the CL spot. With the CL winners and Europa winners both getting CL spots, if Spurs win CL but come 5th, Chelsea win Europa but come 6th, who represents England in the CL next year?

  13. The Rhebel was also more than happy to do Jack Irvine’s bidding during that time, and there were far more negative, false or misleading stories than correct ones. Even if if that were true of back then, the commercial agreement between CFC and the Rhebel signed since, coupled with the editorial policy of Rangers - bad, tims - good, should mean that particular publication, ran by and for tims, should NEVER be used by our players, officials, Directors or even ex-directors.

  15. As usual Paul Murray is out of touch with ordinary Bears if he thinks it is acceptable to give an interview to the one paper above all others that constantly do us down, highlight our players failings, promote our rivals, talk up our rivals players, and basically shite on everything to do with our club and its fans. There are plenty of ways to get this out there, not that he actually says anything new or of interest, than use the Rhebel.

  19. Scottish fitbaw is generally a low quality environment that is best at hating itself into insignificance and worse. The SFA made a bad appointment that had car crash written all over it. To compound it, their own past incompetence had forced them into a money-making end of season trip to Central and South America that no-one (including many of the players) was interested in. It put Eck on the general defensive from the off and squad harmony was at least partly torpeded before a competitive game. In terms of complete f**k-up, they couldn't have done it better had it been their actual aim. What it did do was give the unashamed Rangers haters like Cosgrove and Stewart something to opportunistically get their teeth into but IMO the biggest culprits in all of this are the SFA.

  20. Hastie plays on a different wing from Middleton who prefers to stay on the left side whilst Hastie is more of an inverted attacker on the right. He will provide more competition for Candeias which is a good thing. I'd expect us to add three players of distinct quality. Probably more if Tav and Morelos leave.

  21. What I was calling a force-fit was your comparison with the video/tweet you posted. The reason I asked you for a definition of the term "follower" as used in your post about tweet/comparison was to further understand argument regards responsibility. I'd agree with you that the politicians and pressure groups have the O.O. where they want them and are themselves force-fitting what seems as unreasonable criteria regards the responsibility for spectators (if that is what they are). That said, if a march or whatever event attracts unsavoury elements/criminal behaviour, then the authorities do have a duty to act/look to prevent repeat incidents. This in turn has to be balanced with civil rights. Is it reasonable to force through so much change for one spectator/follower spitting ? With the caveat of not knowing every detail about the episode, I'd say, probably no and that it follows a predictable pattern of a certain degree of abuse of power by politicians, together with one-sided pressure groups. As I mentioned previously, the best way to play it has already been put forward by a O.O. statement,..it was a suggestion, an offer to come together and stand against bigotry whilst on the march. It was an olive branch of sorts that didn't seem to be talked about or considered. IMO. this line should have been persevered with. A genuine attempt to go further towards a lasting solution that would make anyone refusing it look unreasonable. Whoever had that idea should be listened to more because I think a more confrontational approach will end up having a negative outcome for the O.O.

  22. No doubt you are a popular fellow but like most people you will have a finite group of friends and acquaintances. As such I would refute your right to purport such statements to be true and factual. You have no way of knowing if either statement is true without showing published data. Pushback is a harsh reality.

  23. How would a priest or any other religious person standing on the pavement antagonise any normal person? The fact is that some who follow these marches are morons.

  25. There's been other marches and demos in the city where people have been assaulted and the Council don't seem to care. If there were some level of consistency then that would go somewhat to reducing the conspiracy theories. I wonder if I stand with a UJ and Rangers top on in the middle of George Square during the next pro-independence rally and I get assaulted, will the council ban all future pro-independence rallies? I think that we all know the answer to that.

  26. In the wake of 'spitgate', some of the statements to come from the O.O. were actually very good, politically enlightened even (IMO). One specific being, IIRC was a suggestion, an offer to come together and stand against bigotry whilst on the march. It was an olive branch of sorts that didn't seem to be talked about or considered. I thought it the exact line they should be taking and that they should have pushed it further, forcing a conversation on it.
