I must admit, I'm still a bit unsure about Friday night football. On the one hand, it's the end of the working week for most so there are few better ways to enjoy a Friday evening than watching your favourite team with a few of your preferred beverages. Win, and you can stride about the Saturday shopping like a man who has just won the lottery (aye, grab a couple of steaks, hen). But, lose, well, everyone's weekend is spoilt and there's not much joy to be had from watching Sky Sports coverage the following day desperate for the teams around you to drop points too (put they steaks back and no sweets for the bairns either). In that vein, Rangers can ill-afford not to win tonight. Already eight points behind Celtic in the league, anything other than a win would surely be the death knell for any thoughts we still have of winning the title. After all, the chances of Aberdeen putting up a fight at Celtic Park tomorrow are fairly low. More so when their biggest game of the season is at Ibrox this coming Tuesday... In any case, as much as we may have to rely on other teams taking points from Celtic, we can only hope the existing gap helps focus the minds of our players. We visit the East side of Glasgow ourselves in three weeks so with only this game and next week's visit of Kilmarnock (yes, them again), we need nothing less than six points and a win at Parkhead to at least attempt to apply some pressure to Brendan Rodger's Neil Lennon's men (yes, him again). That's easier said than done though. Since Lennon left Hibs in controversial circumstances at the end of January, the Edinburgh team's form has been reasonable enough under new manager Paul Heckingbottom with three solid league wins and only the one loss as Lennon returned to Easter Road in the Scottish Cup last weekend. The bulk of the Hibs squad will remain familiar to Rangers fans and although they've lost a few key players in recent times, the threat of Marc McNulty and the guile of Serie A midfielder Stéphane Oméonga can be ignored at our peril this evening. Nevertheless, as much as we've been inconsistent this season, we carry plenty of threat ourselves. Steven Gerrard has also been able to play a fairly settled team in recent weeks and this has been reflected in an unbeaten run that has reached ten games. Add in the fact we've only conceded one goal from open play in those ten games, as well as scoring 29 then clearly we're perhaps due a bit more credit than even some of our our fans like to hand out (yours truly included). This should mean few changes from the bulk of the XI that has started recent matches. Unfortunately, with Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield not 100% fit, Gerrard may be tempted resting at least one, even if both players trained fully yesterday. With Eros Grezda also available again and Ross McCrorie a reliable back up for Jack, the manager certainly has alternatives should he wish to shake things up. No matter the starting XI though, the challenge remains the same: beat Hibs at the third time of asking this season. That's never easy in Edinburgh but we should have done so in December and again just a week later in Glasgow. That was four points dropped though so we must go some way to recovering those tonight with a win. Let's hope we're all grabbing that shopping trolley with a smile on our face tomorrow. Possible team (4-3-3):7 points

"Bairns"? I demand all supporters go through a Govan elocution lesson! You'll be slipping 'ken' into articles soon if we don't intervene Frankie, this is for your own good... Great stuff, eastern patois apart, enjoyed it.4 points

I used to stay next door to him a few years ago, he's a great young lad and also has very nice parents who did all they can to make him a success. He's got a great left foot on him and has bulked up a lot as I've followed his career since he turned pro. His dad is Celtic daft but to give him his due he always said to me he would have no issue signing for Rangers as long as it's the best deal. I can't see him cheering his boy on if he scored against them though!! Certainly hope it's true as he looks a great prospect and deserves this.4 points

Story of our season. It was a foul on Tav in my view but from then on, we didn't defend the counter well enough despite a few earlier warnings and that, combined with all the missed chances, means it's two points dropped and our weekend ruined and game over for another league season. Not sure what the full backs were doing at times in that game as they were posted missing defensively. It's so frustrating as lots of our play; from the high press to the neat triangles is first class. Unfortunately our lack of composure in the box and often poor final ball means we don't kill teams off.3 points

Sums up our season. 3 points out of 9 against a crap Hibs. Pathetic.3 points

Ah, now c'mon, Patrick Hamilton was a Glaswegian, when he went to the East coast you lot martyred him. Maybe he asked for vinegar on his chips? Now Gonzo, you know the one thing that unites east and west coast Scotland was the referendum, we all voted to remain in the EU, remember? ?3 points

Let's hope we don't sign him to send him out on loan if he's good enough get him in the team at 19 he's all the man he's ever going to be .(3 points

RANGERS are poised to snap up Motherwell starlet Jake Hastie on a four-year deal. SunSport can reveal the Ibrox side are close to tying up Hastie, 19, on a pre-contract. Well had hoped to hold on to their highly-rated wide man, whose deal is up this summer, and had made their best offer to keep him. But Gers boss Steven Gerrard has moved swiftly to entice the player, who has burst on to the scene in stunning fashion during 2019. If the deal is completed it’s likely that Liverpool legend Gerrard’s presence in the Ibrox dugout will have been the decisive factor. But Well won’t be left out of pocket if the move goes ahead. Hastie has been in the club’s academy since 2009, meaning Well will be due a chunky development fee. Incredibly, Hastie only made his first start for Motherwell on January 23, having spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Championship strugglers Alloa Athletic. Since then he’s quickly settled into Stephen Robinson’s side, netting four goals in five games. Hastie has also landed his first Scotland Under-21 call-up for the friendlies against Mexico and Sweden later this month. Robinson has maintained it would be best for Hastie’s future to stay at the club, while the player himself also said he saw his future at Fir Park. But his all-action style and running power, allied to his goalscoring ability, saw sides start to circle as talks between Well and Hastie hit the buffers. Celtic, Middlesbrough, Derby, Millwall and Hull were all among the clubs who were keeping tabs. But it looks like Gers are now on the verge of beating them all to secure Hastie’s signature. https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/3969121/rangers-motherwell-jake-hastie/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=15519980602 points

Why does Gerrard not use the bench??? So many missed chances too. We got what we deserved. We are still two or three players short of a championship challenge. Hibs are an awful side and the fact we have hardly beaten them since that Cup Final really really sticks in my throat2 points

Never been so pleased and so frustrated at the same time in my life. Performance has been outstanding and yet the final ball and composure around the box has been infuriating. Feel a lot better after that goal.2 points

An excellent first half performance with a deserved lead but it should be much better as we completely outclassed Hibs and should be 3 or 4 up. More appalling refereeing with Darren McGregor let off lightly after striking Morelos with his forearm and the Columbian also denied a clar penalty when Gray pushed him at the back post. To top it off, an exuberant Hibs fan accosted Tav on the half-time whistle. A disgrace.2 points

Im thankful there are bears like yourself Ian that keep an eye on rags like the DR and Sun. However, sadly there are others, albeit a small minority, who continue to religiously buy the written press (tabloid or otherwise) for whatever reason? We have no friends among these people and I wish “every” supporter would waken up to this! Just ask your waens to show you how to work a phone or computer ffs!!2 points

I think Arfield has a habit of telling Gerrard that he's fit enough to start, even when he isn't and given the lack of options for his spot, SG tends to play him with fingers crossed....At a push, you could put Grezda on the left and Kent in the middle but a start for the Albanian might be a bigger risk than a XX % fit Arfield.....so as per your line-up, t the latter will probably start. Always good to see McCrorie in for this type of fixture and Kamara didn't do his case any harm last week when he showed he could battle up at Aberdeen. Glad to see a settled central defence at last. No surprise it has co-incided with our best run of results. However, we now go up against the most challenging run of domestic fixtures of the season at the business end. It's a list of 11 to 13 maximum matches all but one against the better half of the top tier and the exception is a difficult away game at Motherwell. It's well worth a listen! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djULBQJFhFM2 points

Absolutely delighted with this. He’s young but has a lot of potential. If we’re sticking with the 4-3-3 we need players like this on the wing who cut inside and score goals. A steal from Motherwell if true who will be fuming.2 points

Aberdeen will have watched that and thought, "Even if they score first, they will bottle it.". How many times have we went ahead and then lost confidence/impetus/momentum/interest. It is becoming very frustrating. I'd sell Tav and get rid of Halliday in a heartbeat. Never winners. Jack annoyed me tonight when we desperately needed a goal and he got involved with the Hibs players after 90s minutes was up. Not the correct mentality at all.1 point

We have to be more clinical and stronger away from home. If we were to turn 5 of our 8 draws into wins we would be genuinely giving them more to think about. Draws are as good as defeats in a tight race IMO. I can think of at least 4 of our draws where we should have won. Aberdeen away, Hibs away x 2, Motherwell away.1 point

Have you guys seen the way the fan incident is being reported???? A fan "approached" the Rangers captain. A fan went "onto the edge of the pitch" An example of "poor fan behaviour" It was ASSAULT! A Rangers player was assaulted by a Hibs fan. Why can't they report it without so much obvious and disgusting bias? These "reporters" are scumbags and liars. I doubt we will hear much accurate reporting on this from the usual suspects. It'll be a matter of hours before it's being described as "over exhuberance" by some.1 point

You know the saddest part of that placard is that those enthusiastic BBC Scotland Dandy Dons will say the same as they said about their fellow supporters holding a banner proclaiming Alfredo Morelos' mother being akin to a mattress, NOTHING. Only last week, Wullie Miller echoed Steve Clarke's statement of thanking Chelsea for removing him from west, central Scotland. He told of his gratitude towards Aberdeen FC for taking him from Bridgeton to the North East. After being domiciled in Furryboots City for five decades, he arrives at the conclusion, "there is no bile in Aberdeen". Richard Gordon, Liam McLeod, Jonathon Sutherland, ..... etc all chorused support. Here's another question for Auntie Beeb's Dandies, given there is no bile in Aberdeen; the Rangers team bus parked overnight in the team hotel in Aberdeen two years past, who carved in two foot high letters, 'HaHa' 66'?1 point

Fantastic news, this means we can expect to receive a much bigger transfer fee in the summer when he is sold. Any lingering doubts that he may stay another season has probably gone now. Hopefully he gets to win something before he goes, apart from the golden boot.1 point

This would be an excellent signing and it would help show a football operation going down the right road both on and off field. I think it's important to get the bright Scottish youngsters in and to do it on the relative cheap, even better.1 point

Although I have no interest in watching women's football, I do appreciate its importance in attracting more women into football, and that can only be a good thing for Rangers.
