Thought I'd give a brief pen pic on all the squad. https://rfcyouths.wordpress.com/2019/02/16/the-alkass-international-cup-squad/6 points

On the 16th February 1935 Rangers legend Tom Vallance died at the family home at 83 Pitt Street Glasgow aged 78. Tom is buried in Hillfoot Cemetery in Bearsden and his funeral was attended by Mr. Struth, Chairman James Bowie and his old team-mate James McIntyre who both took a cord. Incredibly, players from the Vale of Leven team whom Tom had faced 60 years earlier in 1877 were also in attendance. That will give you an indication as to how highly regarded Tom Vallance was. Tom was paid the ultimate accolade by the Club in May 1898 when he was made a life member of the Rangers. In 2012 we had Tom put on to canvas by way of a painting by artist Helen Runciman which was unveiled at Ibrox Stadium at the end of our Founders Trail. Tom Vallance took his rightful place at the top of the Marble Staircase alongside his friends and fellow Founders. Some facts on Tom Vallance: Tom had an incredible 60 year association with the Club. He was a master oarsman, a champion athlete (he set a Scottish long jump record of over 21 feet), he studied at the Glasgow School of Art, had paintings accepted by the Royal Scottish Academy and was Rangers Club Captain and President for many years. While President of the Club it was not uncommon to find TomVallance working the turnstiles on match day at First Ibrox. In 1890 he owned the Club Restaurant at 22 Paisley Road Toll which today is the Viceroy Bar. We have recorded details of Tom Vallance being present at the ceremony held on 1st January 1929 which saw the opening of the Main Stand at Ibrox and also at a Dinner held in the old St.Enoch’s Hotel after a Rangers match in 1933, he was also a guest of the Club that year for the New Year’s day game against Celtic. So, the lad who was present at Fleshers Haugh in 1872 was still attending Ibrox some 60 years later where the Club that he’d helped form and nurture were now playing in front of crowds touching 100,000. Today we remember Tom Vallance.4 points

Mediocrity is about attitude, as well as ability. Half that team today looked totally uninterested in winning the league.3 points

Gerrard didn't look keen on Grezda when he was fit. I have no idea why we're playing Worrall ahead of Katic. Davis looks well past it.3 points

Absolutely, it’s utterly embarrassing that we rely on a bulldozer up front to create a chance most of the time, and it exposes the lack of creativity from Kent and Candeias that they can’t give Defoe anything to work with! Defoe will get pelters today because he was “anonymous”. He was “anonymous” because our midfield has next to no creativity.3 points

I don't really understand why everyone thought Davis would be a saviour. He was regularly the invisible man the first time around and he is now 6 years older.3 points

Thoroughly enjoyed watching them this week, very worthy winners too.3 points

Killie will just come and do exactly what St Johnstone did. Sit back and hit us on the break. We have not got a clue how to break teams down2 points
-
We just don’t recruit number 10s. It’s like Celtic with centre backs. Both sets of fans know what their team needs and bizarrely neither team will do it.2 points

It looks like Gerrard has wasted a fair chunk of our funds on the likes of Grezda, Davis and Worrall. Questions will have to be asked if he can't rectify his errors in the Summer.2 points
-
I said last Winter we need a creative midfielder. I said it again last Summer. I said it again this Winter. I reckon I'll be saying it again this Summer. We rely far too much on Morelos. Without him we're a soft touch.2 points

So much for Defoe and Davis being the quality signings we needed to boost our squad. We need to build from a base of youth now for the future; the U17s have shown the way. No more 'experienced' players, it's time to end this elephant's graveyard at Ibrox.2 points

Awful first 45. Need a play at a higher tempo and press them a lot harder2 points

Not much more than attends Ibrox every other week. They get £21m and we get treated like crap.2 points

I have never worn a kilt or would ever wish to. Just not my thing and you couldn’t pay me to dress up with one. I have always found the long material known as “trousers” which cover my whole lower body to be frightfully comfortable. Magnificent innovation!?2 points

Apologies for no podcast this week but good news is that we'll be having our first LIVE pod on Youtube this Sunday at 9.30pm. @rfb1872, @Govan Rear Bear, @JohnMc and myself will all be featuring and, as well as discussing Saturday's game and previewing the Killie cup replay, we're hoping to also take your questions via the chat facility. This will be our first live pod so please be gentle! If it's a success, then we may make this a regular feature before and after games so please support us if you can by watching on Sunday evening.1 point

They trebled on him at one point but that’s fine if the others have the wherewithal to use the space and these teams have figured out we don’t. The Candeias Tav partnership for example has ground to a halt. I can’t help thinking Barisic hamstring is causing him issues either physical or mental. He’s just not extending himself down the flanks. It’s as if he’s protecting himself. It’s not got the look of a regenerated post winter break team that’s for sure. Tragedy is Celtic are pysh.1 point

No, I mean Morelos. I like Kent but I agree that we, as a support, overrate him.1 point

Kent? Not a popular view but I still think he’s way overrated. He gets plaudits for his “urgency” and “looking to make things happen” but he just lacks quality where it matters. Yes he’ll take someone on at the half way line and get you off your seat but how often does he create a goal scoring chance? Almost never. His final ball and shooting are both poor. If Murphy had stayed fit I think we’d be in a far better place right now.1 point

I'll ask my mate, Xavier Nutting-Farthing-Bartholemew-Heckingsbottom and get back to you.1 point

1) The Scottish Sun reports Rangers will pay around £2 million for Grezda, making him the Ibrox side's fifth most expensive recruit since their 2012 relegation, after Connor Goldson (£3.04 million*), Carlos Pena (£2.7 million*) Barisic (£2.22 million*) and Nikola Katic (£2.07 million*).1 point

Grezda has had injuries. Worall is a loanee who’s done ok. He’ll return to Forest at the end of the season. Davis is now past it.1 point

I only seen the second half but Kamara was the best player on the park imo.1 point

We spent the money we got for Bates on Worrall. Worrall is no footballer and today slowed everything down but the real problem was the midfield. It was also obvious Defoe and Candeias are not going to win high balls constantly pumped at them. Today would have been better with a 4-4-2 but we have to assume Lafferty was doubtful and perhaps played with an injury. Only Lafferty and Kent get pass marks because they at least tried to take responsibility. In truth that was fairly easy for St J.1 point

There will be no big clearcut of players. Incremental additions/replacements only.1 point

The season isn't over. If Alfredo can keep the heid and remain available, we can win the Cup. The summer should be about building on what SG has started and not another clear-out.1 point
-
Correct. I would have to add that a clear-out in the summer is essential. The bookies must love those who are suggesting, optimistically, that we remain in the Scottish Cup. It is possible that we will despatch Kilmarnock, but on recent form I cannot be sanguine about success this competition.1 point

Playing 4-3-3 week in week out against defenses like that has seen MW and PC drawn and quartered, and finally chopped. And it is not that hard to fathom. You can play that system if you have the players, we don't. Instead, we try to best Killie and St. Joe at a game that they have drilled and tested for years ...1 point

Kamara looks like he will be a very decent addition. Strong, pacy, skilful, makes good decisions. Glad we have h im on a 4.5 yr deal.1 point

Defoe's hand brushes Kerr's face there, and the Referee, who's miles away, gives the foul. Compare and contrast to the elbow on McCrorie.1 point

Kamara looks very confident here - some very tidy skills on the ball.1 point

pedant alert.... Kamara's subsequent shot was actually stopped by Fostrer, who then clears.1 point

A team of young Scots travel to the middle east and compete in an international tournament. They are up against clubs with considerable cache ie Real Madrid, Roma, and Bayern Munich. You would expect the national broadcaster would be willing to celebrate the considerable achievement of such a team of young Scots winning the tournament? I hope the Colts get to parade the trophy at half time against Killie this coming Wednesday?1 point
