Steven Gerrard has called on Rangers to return to winning ways when they host Hamilton in a "very important" game on Sunday. Having been top of the Scottish Premiership earlier this month, Rangers have since lost to Aberdeen, drawn with struggling Dundee and been knocked out of the Europa League after a 1-0 defeat to Rapid Vienna. "We have had a tough week in terms of results, so we need to get back to winning ways," said Gerrard. Steven Gerrard says his side will need to be at their best to beat Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership as they aim to return to winning ways "The Hamilton fixture becomes very important to us and it is important the players understand that. "Emotions are always running high in the dressing room, the media and the terraces after a couple of bad results so it is important we get back to winning." Rangers won 4-1 when the two sides met in October. Team news Rangers' Alfredo Morelos is suspended but Daniel Candeias returns from a European ban. Ovie Ejaria's involvement is uncertain after manager Steven Gerrard admitted he would be holding talks with the "unsettled" on-loan Liverpool midfielder. Ryan Kent (hamstring) is still out along with long-term absentees Graham Dorrans and Jamie Murphy (both knee). Match stats Rangers have won 14 of their 16 Scottish Premiership games against Hamilton (D1 L1), including each of the last two by an aggregate scoreline of 9-4. Hamilton's only victory against Rangers in the Scottish Premiership came in their last visit to Ibrox in November 2017 (2-0), having failed to win any of their previous six away matches against them in the competition (D1 L5). Rangers were beaten 1-0 by Aberdeen in their last Scottish Premiership game at Ibrox, ending a run of 10 home league matches without defeat (W9 D1) - they last lost consecutive home fixtures in the top-flight back in March. Hamilton have lost four of their last five Scottish Premiership games (W1), failing to score in each of those defeats. James Tavernier has been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight appearances for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership (3 goals, 5 assists). https://www.skysports.com/football/rangers-vs-hamilton/preview/3912432 points

Good luck to the boy but I see it as a good thing for us as he fits into the same vein as Zalelam and Oduwa obviously some talent but not suited to game in Scotland.2 points

Don’t see us winning 55 with those mentioned so far, we have a long way to go.1 point

We've had rain, sleet and snow in East Lothian with a very slight covering as of now. However, it has stopped now and the temps seem to have risen a bit so I'm sure we'll be fine for tomorrow afternoon!1 point

Very cold and wet in Glasgow(Whiteinch) not that far from Ibrox as the crow flies, easy for me to get there via subway otherwise I might not be going. Will have to wrap up well but luckily being in Sandy Jardine front under shelter helps. Safe journey if you travel.1 point

It's cold and wet in Edinburgh. No sign of snow but that could change overnight.1 point

I think I'd recall Docherty, especially with Ejaria leaving. Unless we've got someone else lined up.1 point

I think he came on as a sub and is only just back from injury, not too sure. Long term I am not sure he is good enough to hold down a regular centre forward position at Ibrox. Never know until he is given at least a glimmer of a chance though??1 point

That’s where all the Tim’s were sitting when they through the fire crackers onto us last year. The ones that went off next to a kid and damaged his hearing. Cowardly acts. The Scot squad said they were powerless? Said it was really easy for people to smuggle them in and throw them? They said recognising the culprits was impossible?? I didn’t enjoy my stint down in the corner with gestapo Scotland in charge!1 point

I'd still use Pena. He's a unique player, with a valuable skill-set. He's not a complete midfielder, and he does have issues, but I'd use him until his contract runs out -- if we can't get rid of him for a fee, which looks unlikely.1 point

IMHO, as I said before, our tactics ever since MW have wrecked a good few Rangers strikers prospects of making their mark with the club. Be that Hardie, Garner, Waghorn, Herrera, Dodoo or Cummings. We shoe-horned them all into a one-striker scenario that may suit e.g. a Morelos, but not quite a few others, who a) weren't really used to it, or b) hardly get a consistent run due to one striker is being first choice. So if they come on for a few minutes or have a game every now and then, they usually didn't or don't hit the ground as some seemingly expect ... and are written off as duds. We see the same stuff with Lafferty just now. And we would see the same with Hardie, if he was here. 4-3-3 is a neat system every now and then, if you have the players and face opposition that wants to play football. A e.g. Ribery-Lewandowski-Robben trio will always work for Bayern ind the BL or in Europe. A Kent-Morelos-Candeias will and has consistently "failed" in the battlegrounds of Scotland. Yes, we scored loads of goals still, but how often have these threesome (or their subs) run against brick-walls in the SPFL, being easily mopped up and swamped by 2 or 3 "defenders" each. The longer the MW and now SG season wore on, the more adapt the SPFL defence came in nullify the threat of our attack line. Yet, we persist in essentially a 4-3-3, hoping for the killer pass from young Ejaria or the odd perfect cross from Tavernier, or some magic by Middleton. People have - in this thread - asked for another quality striker to accompany Morelos. What for though, one may ask? We don't play two strikers ... when the team begs out for them. I have no doubt whatsoever that we would have posed a far greater threat to those rugged SPFL defences had we employed Lafferty and Morelos these last few weeks, and built the rest of the team according to opposition at hand - rather than throwing Plan A at them with a minimal change in personell. Where MW was hand-cuffed because of lack in numbers, we currently hand-cuff ourselves with playing (or having played) the Liverpool-lads each and every game no matter what. So if you ask me, I'd say yes: go for that preferrably international striker in the window, but also get Hardie back for next season and someone like Cummings, who has (at 23!) more than 200 games under his belt in exactly the environment we need, scoring 90 goals and assisting 30 more. Use him and Lafferty against Killie, Accies and Co. and forget, for those games, on champagne stuff (that essentially never really occured all too regularly, if people would be true to their memory) always presented by McCoist, Hateley, Lövenkrands, Mols and Co.. Or try Hardie and Cummings, Lafferty et al. It is not dropping the likes of Morelos, but revolving squad and tactics to the task at hand, which we hardly see these last few months, unless injuries and suspension dictates it.1 point

Hardie's contract runs out next year, he is 21 and is a goal scorer so a big decision has to be made by Rangers, I would like to see him given a decent run of games in our first team to see if he can do a job for us, however I can't see him getting that run in the first team, Lafferty isn't even getting that, but I would give him a chance, 21 years old, 6ft 2 and knows how to put the ball in the net.1 point

Nominally, we have Murphy as a left winger, Kent as a left winger, and Middleton as a left winger. We still have Joe Dodoo on our books, who also is a left winger. Jones could be regarded as a replacement to Murphy and Kent, when he's away in the summer. Methinks he is a more left-sided player than all the others, since all the abovementioned can be utilized through the middle or the right side as well, and have been already. I'd rather have natural players in their natural position (as in days gone by), than people being shifted all over the field on a regular basis, which can (and IMHO has) led to a lack of cohesion and understanding - something you would have seen with "natural players". I have no problem with shifting people in general - when necessity or injuries dictates it. Hardie ... may still come good for us. He wouldn't have helped us much this season, as he was injured for a long spell. His days at Livingston will help him enormously. Obviously, as with Jones, scoring for these teams will be different as it is for us. Simply because Livi vs Hearts or Killie or Accies will be utterly different than facing these teams with us. He IS a natural finisher though and may profit from having a creative chap and a second striker of the quality of Morelos alongside him. We shall see.1 point

I'd take him as a Bosman to replace Kent for 19/20. At the sametime, trying to reduce dependency on loan deals.1 point

Regarding a target man, we might already have one but he's out on loan. Hardie got 2 goals last night; he could surely score in this league.1 point

Perhaps by parking a single decker and not a double! But thats about it. Jose doesnt know how to win these games anymore. If they didnt have division in the camp Id give them a sniff but he cant seem to get a tune out of his forward players and would need to bulk up the midfield to have a chance. I cant see anything other than a comfortable home win although I would like to see Utd win. To have Martial, Sanchez, Rashford, Mata, Lingard, Pogba at your disposal and be so far off the pace! Id put Lukaku in that list but he has never impressed me in the Premier League. I remember watching him for Everton and he didnt get around enough. Yet when I saw him for Belgium in the WC he was a world beater, he was awesome in the knock outs against Japan and Brazil and played down the right for bits with electric pace and i couldnt believe what I was watching. This seems to be the big fixture in england still but they do tend to disappoint. Personally I always preferred Man Utd v Arsenal as the big game when both where at their best, far more quality and entertainment.1 point

Just like Odowu, has certainly got some talent, good skills, but nothing special and will be a journeyman pro. Hope he finds a level he is comfortable at and in a side that will bring out the best in him and fans that wont moan when he does three reverse movements in a row to try to find space and all his teammates are standing watching instead of moving into space for receive a pass. Will be remembered for a lovely goal in Russia v Ufa that booked our place in the group stages. Thanks Ovie, and good luck to you young man.1 point

We should. He would be a cheap punt. And the potential, given his goals record this season, is very clear.1 point
